16 miles is so much further than most people think, the fact you did it all on crutches is mind boggling to me. im in need of mobility aids myself but cant get them yet, but you are one of the people who make me believe i can keep going and do the things i love to do. congrats on the 16!!

      Exactly my thinking!
When I first heard the idea I wouldn’t have thought 25+ Km / 16 miles using crouches would be possible. Even one tenth of that distance would murder my hands and wrists.
And be quite the challenge to overcome for most people.
16 miles / a bit over 25 km, is just mind boggling for me to even imagine doing on crutches.
His hands deserve whatever is the hands equivalent to like a 6 months long spa retreat.

Alex--- I actually also ran the marathon, and remember seeing you around mile 1-2 thinking WOAAAH! That guy is so amazing! I can't believe that the TH-cam algorithm actually brought me to this video, but I just wanted to say how much much I am proud of you for making it a full 16 miles. This nearly brought me to tears. Thank you so much for sharing your story, and bringing awareness to the issues of accessible medical equipment. Sending healing vibes your way (my toes, for one, are so bruised still :,-) )

Hey Alex, I donated 25.75 $ - which is a dollar per kilometer you walked (us continental Europeans being peculiar with our km and such). You did a half marathon! More as! Friends of mine in Berlin did the Berlin Halbmarathon (having desk jobs), and they trained months in advance. You had a week, crutches and you made a half marathon - a whole Halbmarathon! You did such a great job! Hope you heal nicely. Here’s to you, dear 🥂.

16 miles is a BIG deal, with or without crutches! I’ve been running for over 20 years and have never heard of a run such as this, I’m crying tears of joy for you man - this is a phenomenal achievement (for anyone)!! This was wayyy more than an attempt, it was a massive victory!!! (Also, having friends with and without legs and working in healthcare myself, the only disappointing part of the run is that prosthetics and even adaptive sports equipment such as wheelchairs cost an exorbitant amount. The wheelchair ballroom dance students in the inclusive ballroom classes I attend can’t afford sport/dance wheel chairs, it’s nuts what adaptive equipment costs, my heart aches for them.)

I just wanted to say that you inspired me to write my own Star Wars novel, I want to publish it one day but there is one character in particular that I want to give you credit for. If you haven't seen Star Wars then there are these soldiers who are clones of one another. They are born to fight and the character that I've created is a Clone Commando named Boot. He is an amputee thus his name and his brothers help him maintain his robotic leg, or if he's on a break from missions then he'll just detach it. I just wanted to let you know that amputees are beginning to be more and more represented. And you are such an amazing role model!

I'm having to rely on crutches since I had foot surgery almost 3 weeks ago and I cannot believe you made it 16 miles. This is honestly insane and I have so much respect for you, even walking a couple hundred meters tires me out and makes my hands hurt like hell. Even if you didn't finish the marathon, you made it way further than pretty much anyone else ever would've made it on crutches - and further than most people would make it even without the crutches!! Hoping you'll feel better soon!

You inspire me to become more competent with my crutches, because as mobility aids go they do offer so much freedom to adventure. At 18, cancer killed a section of my tibia & pelvis so even though I still have my leg I have a fairly daily step limit in hopes of reducing damage to the section that has survived. Mobility aids are essential; be them prosthetics, wheelchairs, crutches, of hinged braces, in letting people with disabilities experience the world.

I'm a 62 year YOUNG German Guy, facing a leg amputation (that I'm waiting for, for about 2.5 to 3 years...).
A former Cancer Patient (Testicle, Lungs and Lymphsystem), so I definitely get the MOUNTAINS of suffering you had to come over with.
    That's my first Congratulation.
    Second is:
After taking part on this Marathon, I hope you realized that you are a WINNER! 🤓 DEFINITELY!
One mustn't make it to the Finish Line to win, or get a better "Time" or a "Distance".
People taking part in this, are winning the moment they decide to BE a part! Every Person is different. Everyone has its own Problems, obstacles, physically or mentally to deal with.
So when you do it, it's not a question of the classical "Success" and being better than a "Looser" to "Win" a Contest, most important is ones own DARING nature.
    So you are a WINNER!
    Logical?
I highly recommend you two Guys from Italy, where you can learn how to STRETCH in crutches and long distance hiking :

    Gianni Sasso
    Have a look!

You are so tough and strong and really inspiring 😃 I've been told as a late teenager early twenty years old that i would be in a wheelchair when I hit 50. To be honest, it kinda broke me, and that with a lot of other things really took me down. I am now in my thirties, and I am determined to get my body stronger than ever and be able to move for as long as possible.
With this long ramble, I just want to say thank you for being such a great inspiration and such a positive motivator to help me overcome what felt so hard for years.
So yeah you rock Alex 😃

Good job bro!! Hella inspiring I couldn't even imagine putting myself through that big props to you!! I am a below knee amputee myself and running, biking, skateboarding, swimming with my prosthetic are hella challenging but it's stuff I love doing! Doing something like a marathon I used to say would be impossible for me. Thanks for proving me wrong! Much love brother

I know. It's absolutely reducoulous hoe much medical stuff cost. You can't tell me making a single running blade cost the same as building a whole bloomin car. That is impossible. It would have to have some crazy wiring or something. I know providers have also complained on how much they are forced to charge their patients for stuff.
By the way you are absolutely totally awesome in what you did! I don't even think my rear end could even go half of what you did WITH my 2 legs. You are very strong and resilient. Inspirational and honesty makes us who don't do this feel lazy and bad. Keep up the great work!

My brother had cancer and due to complications had his leg amputated as well. Was in the clear for a short period of time and during that time, my family became very familiar with prosthetics, wheelchairs, and crutches… the cancer ended up re-emerging and he passed away in 2015. You remind me a lot of him and this video made me really emotional because this is exactly the kind of thing he would’ve done. Very glad I discovered this video and your story. Extremely inspiring and captivating.
    Thank you

When people say the phrase not all heroes wear caps they are most of the time saying to doctors or firefighters, but they don’t look around to see the true heroes hidden behind the brush. You have inspired so many people to make the most of their disability, and even people without just to make the most of their lives because you never know what could happen. I wish that everyone can see that just doing one thing that makes you happy everyday can change your perspective on the world. All I can say is you are the hero without the cap whenever you go and I hope the I can inspire people to be the best version of themselves just like how you inspired me. ❤

You give me hope. I have wanted to run a marathon for a long time. I have wanted to run for longer. I am not able to walk at all right now and I’m in treatment so I really believe I can run someday. I also agree on how expensive all the medical stuff is. Thanks for the hope.
