I kind of doubt you looked that closely at Musashi, because one of the central lessons in his 5 Rings book, something he bothered to write while dying, is that if you're going to be dealing in death, you'd better dispense with any notion of "fair play" or waste any time/energy with technical flourishes or anything else that would keep you from killing your opponent before you're killed.

Tsukahara Bokuden (塚原卜伝) and Kamiizumi Nobutsuna (上泉信綱) were much greater swordmen in Japanese history.

He was a "killer". He killed the great swordsman, Sasaki, Kojiro with a wooden oar. Not a sword. The Book of 5 Rings was written by his Buddhist monk patron.
Sasaki kojiro isnt real tho. The tale of musashi killing sasaki with the wooden oar is only rumors to make musashi look better. The theory on 5 rings being written by his monk patron is half correct as musashi was too old to write so he had a patron to help him write the book.

Musashi maybe didn’t follow the more prolific code of being a samurai he was ronin , in his beginnings he probably was looked at as a bum or a nobody to those who were in schools of bushido. He trained himself diligently alone in the mountains for years when he was young. In my opinion he most likely was extremely quick with his weapon and his body through training . His stories were probably embellished I’m sure . Did he have 60 duels idk about that , it was probably less . Reason being I think your luck would run out sooner or later . But non the less I’m sure he had a lot of duels . If history keeps you alive for hundreds of years there has to be truth there.

I doubt it .I mean , could we really compare him with duelists and blademasters of other places and times ? .Sigmund Ringeck , Iohannes Liechtenauer , Joachim Meyer , Madame de La Mapin , Joseph d'Bolougne , Sir William Marshall , Fiore Fiordano dei Liberi and many more .Those are just the ones we know of , those that had the money , inclination , position , fame or desire to write about or be written about themselves and/or their techniques .And even if we knew of every swordsman and swordswoman who ever lived and every school and variation , there would still be one problem : they are dead .D E A D .We can not compare their skills unless we seriously fuck with the timeline .We can only compare their techniques ( Ridiculous ) , what was said about them ( Very unreliable ) and what they said about themselves ( SUPER unreliable ) .
He has 60 documented wins in duels. That outnumbers the others right off the bat.
Except he was a cheater who attacked before the duel started and a lot of those were also not even duels but premeditated murders .Miyamoto was a pussy .

@@oolooo You mean showing up early to a "duel" (or as reasonable people would call it an ambush) where the opponent's followers and family have prepared a trap? If he was a pussy he wouldn't have even showed up to the ambush if he knew what his opponent was planning before hand.
I listened to a much more comprehensive biography of the guy before. There are many clues that a lot of his exploits were either made up or exaggarated after the fact by himself or later authors. In fact even in those accounts he won a large number (if not most) of his duels by straight up cheating/lying and deceiving. The closer you look at the historic Musashi the less of a hero and the more of a cruel trickster he looks.

There is no cheating in a life or death duel. Your goal is to kill the opponent and live. If you do this, you did well.
*@RandomWords* Exactly so. Musashi is a lot like folk heroes we have in the States. Many of them were real people. Many of them were entirely fictitious. But all of them had resumes that was exaggerated, embellished, and invented just to accommodate good story telling and cultural pride.
This theory that he was a world greatest swordsman just doesn't work. You would have to have a time machine and get her up from different time periods the best swordsman all over the world.Yhey have to have a tournament and then you can pretty much know who was the greatest swordsman of all time.

Only he had a sword made of poor steel folded a thousand times to make it strong. Any Tamil sword made of wootz steel would have cut both with ease.
irrukalam...but he even defeated warriors carrying swords with wooden sticks to show that the sword doesn't matter as much as the fighter behind it.

He "may" have actually lived, but in the telling & retelling of his exploits he has become a tall tale that has little resemblance left to reality. If i made a video extolling the exploits of Daniel Boone, Davey Crocket, Mike Fink, Paul Bunyan, or John Henry as if they were literal fact, you would call BS on me & rightly so! And thus i call BS on you! Because there is absolutely no difference!
No he is not the greatest samurai ,probably musashi have distorted mind that he delighted and have urge in challenging others to sword dwell, it is writen that samurai embrace peace ,fighting is the only last resort
Well he did kill all the other best samurai fighters. Better strategist and never lost. Not the greatest samurai in principle but definitely the best fighter of them.

Samurai were head clans.. very far from peaceful. Bushido mentions a lot about honor and stuff alike but not peace. Plus there was hardly any peace back then, constant power struggles and wars.
