  • In this second video on the Yong Heng 4500psi compressor I discuss the importance of using a molecular sieve (water filter) to ensure that you are filling your tanks with DRY air. I review the GOLD Aliexpress $75 water and oil separator. A hack to convert the cotton filter to molecular sieve to better reduce water in your system.

    After filling your tank, just store it overnight air valve down in a cool place so any water can condensate and accumulatie near the valve. The next day just blow out some air and any water buildup will be blown out to. Never had any corrosion in any of mine scuba tanks. No need to overengineer simple things. Just use the small filter to keep oil crud out.

      There is a 3 inch nipple inside the tank so turning it upside down won't get it all out.

    Spot on about safety! Only problem is you have to periodically approach your system while filling to make sure you don't over pressurize your tank or exceed 4350psi of that compressor. I don't have automatic shut-off and wouldn't rely on it anyway.
    I seen on Amazon where a customer said a similar version filter canister split on him while filling. SCARY indeed!
    Excellent job as always! You are a tremendous asset to PCP airgunning.

    Hello Air. Update on the new relay. Perfect fix.They did send the relay with all the wire attached. Makes it very simple to change. Would have been hard to figure out otherwise, They did switch and double up a couple wires. They send you one extra crimp end. I was a little unsure so I emailed and double checked with them. You will see the brown wire that burnt. You will cut that brown wire put the crimp end on there. The brown wire will now connect to a double green wire on the relay. ( Very obvious ) . I did take several pix before I did it. I will say this new relay looks ALOT better built. Hope this helps everyone. P.S. They did replace it for free. Tried to get me to pay for shipping but I was not going for any part of that after just giving them 350 and can not use my new compressor. lol they did send it for free. Thanks again for all the help Air. You were a big part of getting my wife and i to this point with tank and everything. I do have the same water and oil separator now also.

    Thanks a million for this vid. I have a similar compressor and on your recommendation got the same water separator. Instead of white PVC, I used 30mm clear acrylic tube and colour changing silica gel as the desiccant. This way I can remove the desiccant canister and inspect it (goes from orange to dark green when it needs changing).

    • @captainboing

      @@tropicthunderbolt all came from eBay. I only put an O ring around one end of the tube so the pressure can equalize on both sides. The air still has to go through it but can't explode it or crack it from the inside. The gel is orange and goes dark green when it is soaked. You can reverse it by putting it in your oven at 60C until it goes back to orange. From reading around d it seems people think the gel is as good as MLS but I am not a chemist so you have to be happy in yourself. Ill see if I can do a vid of it and post it for ya. You could try some sieve as well if you want, just a matter of changing out the cannister content but I like that I know when it needs changing... that was an accident btw. Thanks so much for sharing. I have just started the same journey as you but with an Aceeagle pump which is a clone of the Yong Heng...or vice versa..who knows in China right!? . I've only used mine once to top off my 4.5l tank from 160bar to a hair under 300bar. Almost the same as you i only saw a little bit of oil in the first stage and the main, bigger filter did feel dry. Hardly scientific...but also paranoid about moisture so I bought a second stage filter but it was only a small one, the same size as the inline one you get with the pump.
    It's been gnawing away at me so
    not content with that, I have bought exactly the same gold filter you are showing, also from Alibaba.I got it before I saw your vid...so....what can I say...great minds think alike!
    Been thinking about how to hack it to get some reusable silica packs in there and the pvc pipe with the o rings is a brilliant idea.

      Hey Chris congratulations you will love the yong hang just don't overwork it keep it cool and definitely use a water separator. I want you to know that I am making a new video because I am using a new type of oil called Seco lube 500 from filtertech.com which runs a lot cleaner and does not smell. I also have a new water separator that does a better job and is readily available on Amazon or ebay.. the new water separator does not have any media inside of it rather it collects water and drops it at the bottom and is completely empty inside except for a stainless steel condenser that collects moisture and drops it at the bottom of the tube which can be bled off periodically.

    In industrial applications you dry air before compression. I’m making a pre dryer now using 3a molecular sieve and will post when I’ve proven the design. It’s a no pressure set up so inexpensive by comparison to this arrangement, though I have to say this is better than cotton! Molecular sieves are easy to monitor and recycle and cheap too.

    One more thing to consider. I think the filter should be mounted vertically. The input should be at the bottom, the output at the top. I found some 400 mesh stainless steel screen on amazon that could be used to hold in the media. 400 mesh is finer than most common bed sheets. Also there should be a check valve and a bleed valve at the bottom, to open up at the end of the run to blow out the accumulated moisture and oil (depending on how much comes out, you might want to do it every so often).I am going to use the screen at the bottom, so that it blows out good without losing any media. I'll let you know how it works. All I have right now is a 90 cu. in. bottle, but I plan to get one much larger, like 12 liter. When I do, I might add another filter in series with the other one, with it's own check and bleed valves at the input, to make sure I get most of the moisture out.With a bleed and check valve at the input of each filter, I can bleed them seperately, to see how much comes out of each filter.
    I know this must seem like going overboard trying to eliminate as much moisture as I reasonably can. But like you said, the dryer the better, for the long haul. I'll try to document the process. I've ordered everything so I should be able to try it in a couple of weeks.
    You wondered what the other bleed valve on the compressor was for. It's the moisture/oil bleed valve. It should be opened every so often to blow out the accumulated moisture/oil. I think you are supposed to open both of these before shutting off the compressor.
    Harry

    @air velocity sport - First off, thanks for the videos. Love your videos. I bought a YH compressor and haven't filled my tank yet only my pcp.****QUESTION**** So to make sure I don't break a burst disk again..... Let me list out the process and can you please confirm, I've got it down? FYI, I bought the parts to the fill assembly exactly as you have yours with the added bleed valve on the SCBA tank side. So here's what I think I understood for the Process to fill my SCBA tank from the YH: 1> Turn on YH w/ YH bleed valves open. 2> Let it
    equalize to tanks residual or current pressure. 3> Now open the tank. 4> Let it fill and bleed water every five mins on the YH. 5> Auto shut off shuts down YH.. 6> Close my tank. 7>Release air from bleed valves and water on YH. 8> After Air bled from the system, safe to disconnect. Please let me know if I got it or I miss anything. Trying to not get a burst disk! =)

    Back in the day when I was scuba diving frequently, there scuba shops when filling the tanks would fill the tanks partially submerged in water in cement walled vats.I expected this to be used to control the temperature of the steel tanks while filling. This was only partially true. As cooling was beneficial, it was also a protection if the tanks were to rupture. Having the tanks partially submerged at the time of filling and failure,, the force would be absorbed partially by the weight of the water and the barrier of the cement walled vat. I saw photos of such failures. So at the time, this was the method of precaution that industry was encouraged to do. Looking back on this method and thinking on the lines that forces must be applied by a medium. For example an explosion in air which does not eject debris only the force. A great amount of that force is diluted from the compressibility of the atmosphere. Take that same explosion under water and within the same distance, the damage is more devastating. This is because the water is not compressed and the forces are not diluted. Would the water and cement in the containment vat become a media to transport the energy of the exploding tank? SoI don’t know. if the volume is low and the bottles are secured so they don’t go flying around the room, is there a significant danger?

      CE does not provide a guarantee for anything.
      All companies producing anything must provide a CE implying Certified European standard merely to sell their products in the EU region.
      It is NOT a guarantee or warranty of any kind and one could in fact "self certify" as well.
      Much like ISO 9000 quality assurance saying "-I followed all rules but you have no way of checking I am truthful".

    Safety is always first Hiding behind fridge is called you value your life and i would do the same. I have seen what just 300psi can do to a human. Guy at work came up with this brite idea on 3rd shift to use pvc as a secondary tank with glued caps. We had no clue to what he did when we came in on 1st shift. until we turned the compressors on to p-restart up the machines, well his brain storm exploded hitting women employee in shoulder she was very lucky it could have been fatal. It was very bad. So long story short this is high pressure that is 100% worse . Any of these units i would not trust and would advise taking all safety steps to less the chance of a problem.

    I am in Cornwall UK. Some good tips there on HP safety.... however, I used to test these cylinders and as long as no water gets in they are good, oil is breathing air safe (or should be) so should not cause fire. Those compressors are fine in UK!...... I tried to burst a 3 liter Faber bottle on purpose...got to 590 Bar with water and I couldn't do it!!,.I have seen these cylinders dropped down sea wall steps and they been fine unless the valves catches then it can be like a unguided missile.
    The Oil you put in it should ONLY be Breath air comparable, Anderol 555 (is best) or Bauer N28355-5, change oil as often as you can afford !
    Normal hydraulic oil will start a fire easy....
    the oil and water filter you have shown is doing its job as all compressors will pass some oil. Always start compressor with all bleeds open and also when shutting down.....Go to a Scuba centre and ask how they run theirs!!!
    DO NOT PUT ANY OTHER OIL IN OTHER THAN COMPRESSOR OIL IN IT THAT IS SUITABLE FOR BREATHING AIR!!!
    GOOD Video though!!

  • @PBazBarrett
    @PBazBarrett 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    yes when compressor gets up to required pressure and shuts off (or you shut it off):
    First shut the valve on the bottle
    Then bleed the systems pressure out through the bottle bleeder
    This releases all the pressure the same direction as it is pumped, by bleeding the system at the compressor end as you recommend is wrong, doing it this way is pushing all of pressure left in the filter (moisture ect) back into the compressor.
    Always release the pressure at the bottle bleeder if available.
    I guess when filling a rifle directly, you can only release pressure at the compressor end though.
    Hope this helps.. ps I have a Omega Supercharger with a diablo dry air system filter..

    The compressor I purchased has the auto shutoff. I simply set the shutoff level at max, over 5000 psi on the gauge, then do a safe manual shutdown when my gun/tank reaches a pressure well below that. A question though, how about putting the desiccant on the low pressure input side, you could make the entire tube out of PVC and avoid it having to maintain high pressures? Or would it suffocate the low pressure input?

    Almost three years after you posted this video. The compressor would not be as popular if it would blow up all the time or hurt people.
    I just filled a 10 Liter 300 bar bottle to 200 bar in two runs and will continue tomorrow.I don't have the room to set up a protective wall but I position the compressor so that it can throw parts away from me, if something goes wrong.
    I am using the unbranded version .... again. They have been selling this for years and it works if you handle it with respect and follow the manual. I am more concerned about that 10 liter bottle once it is filled to 300 bar. Now that is a bomb but those steel bottles stand around construction sites in full sun light all day long .....

    Here's a way to put together a one-way check valve so that you don't have to worry about which valve to shut first. The check valve only allows air to flow in one direction. This configuration will end up as a male-male in-line check valve. You can use it between the compressor and the tank, or anywhere you want air to only flow in ONE direction. It's clear that you need to open the two bleed valves on the compresson BEFORE you shut off the compressor, to lengthen it's life. With the check valve in line, you can do that WITHOUT losing any air in the tank. Here are the parts:
    airtanksplus.com/product/deluxe-ss-male-foster-fitting-with-male-18-npt-and-removable-check-valve/
    airtanksplus.com/product/male-foster-fitting-with-female-14-npt-threads/
    Might need an O-ring for the junction of the two parts. Not sure what size (I'm new to all this HPA stuff ... less than a couple of weeks so far)

    HI, so I have this same compressor, and I Just purchased the GOLD Tuxing (3) stage filter..first it is the cotten, then carbon, the silica, then dissicant. My only problem is WHICH end of the Tuxing filter connects to the compressor and which end goes out to the air gun/air tank? Which stage should come first in the tube? I am assuming the cotton should be the first in line.

    • @AirVelocitySport

      I believe the cotton side comes first and the charcoal side is last. The cotton will catch the dirt and large particals. The desicant is next and charcoal to clean the smell.

    There are so many comments I gave up trying to read them all. However, the pressure relief you call for water/oil is actually the low pressure side valve. The proper way to deal with it would be to start the compressor, close the high pressure bleed, leave open the low pressure side. Run the compressor until the high-pressure side equalizes with the tank pressure. At this point close the low pressure side to begin actually filling the tank. Another commentor talked about a one-way valve which is not a bad idea. At the end reverse the procedure. Obviously you will be opening and closing the tank valve at the appropriate time. There is no reason to have backflush air toward the compressor

    • @AirVelocitySport
      @AirVelocitySport  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry Kornfield thank for input. I went the way of the one way valve near the tank. It so easy and no air get wasted. Plus it allows me to to bleed the air before shutting off the compressor. Works beautifully. All the best!

    • @N71403
      @N71403 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless, the actual company says to pressurize the high side first then close the low pressure side to actually start filling, 1 way valve or not. When you hit the target volume, the manual says to open the low pressure side to stop the filling. Also, open the high pressure side bleed before you turn off the the compressor (that is also right in the manual). They say it will prolong the compressor life!!! Soooooo, why do they sell a auto shut off version LOL LOL After reading all that, I bought the basic version (partly on help from your initial video and from Joerg Sprave.

    • @AirVelocitySport
      @AirVelocitySport  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. I no longer have the auto shutoff feature since my power relay burned and I replaced it with a similar power relay but lost the auto shutoff feature. By default I have to bleed the valves and then shut off the compressor. I use my compressor at least twice a week for the last 7 months and the piston orings have not lost must in the way of ability to pressurize my tanks.

      Many thanks for your courteous reply. desiccant is usually found in electronic equipment ( cameras, mobile phones, computers, other delicate components ) that must be kept absolutely moisture free. ToolsConsumables My work was in a oil refinery the last 37 years. Our unit controls used air. It had to be dry. We used desiccant in big twin tanks . One was heating up and removing moisture while the other in service. They switched every 2 hrs. We used large amounts of air. So yes desiccant will work . The desiccant we use is around half the size off a BB.

    My pvc pipe doesn't fit snuggly into the filter, it's too loose, about 1-1.5 mm loose, so to prevent the air channeling, what if i put the molecular sieves into a sock and a rubber tube (maybe a long balloon cut on both ends?) add the shorter tampons on both ends... will it protect the filter from the acid build up? any suggestions?

    • @AirVelocitySport
      @AirVelocitySport  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      stoner27th that sounds good to me. It's not so much about the acid build-up but more about the molecular sieve touching the walls of the aluminum tube. Supposedly the acid that could build up from the molecular sieve is only bad if it touches the aluminum walls of the two as long as you are insulating the sieve from the two it should be fine.

But I'm thinking about actually making a longer filter than that. Also wanted to know what has been the longest run time that you've got out of it and if you used ice water or does the instructions say not too? I don't know if that would cause more condensation or what have you maybe somebody else on here might have the answer to that if you don't. Thanks for your time because I can't wait to get one.
