BOSTON: It's Pretty Cool

  • I went to Boston and visited some of the most interesting places in the city.
Boston is known for many things, including its famous baked beans, The Boston Tea Party, the Boston Common (oldest park in the country), and of course for the bar from Cheers. Digging a little deeper below the surface revealed another area that the city as struggled with for years. Nonetheless, Boston is one of the oldest, most beautiful and best cities in America.

You walked right by the Shaw memorial without a mention. As depicted in the film "Glory", he led Black troops in the Civil War.

It is hard to deny that Boston is not one of the Top 5 major cities in the country. World class education, research, culture and health care along with plenty of history and charming neighborhoods and parks make this city a winner. I have been there three times , once on the 4th of July to see the Boston Pops and Fireworks display and absolutely loved it. Great video, as always....Cheers!

I'm from northern europe. Visited London, Hamburg, Kopenhagen, Oslo, Amsterdam, Prague..and I love that I find all of these european influences in Boston, but still it's so unique and just beautiful.

Totally loved this City! It's one of the cleanest (little) Big City's I have ever been to, the food in Little Italy is Great, you can walk to Boston Garden, the city trains run all over the city (look 4 the sign "T"), and Historic Quincy Market, all in walking distance (but don't ware ur Yankee hat and T shirt like I did). Oh they'll dog u, but all in fun. They truly have a lot to be proud of. The South has history but this is where it started.

Now you are in my home town. I grew up about 30 minutes south of Boston but worked in the city for many years before moving to Florida. I visit there regularly and was just in Cheers a few weeks ago. Some places you should check out the next time you are in town:
    - Warren Tavern (It's where Paul Revere and George Washington used to drink beer and discuss the US revolution)
    - Fenway Park
    - Faneuil Hall
    - The Esplinade on Charles River
    - State Street
    - The North End (Mike's Pastries, etc.)
    - The "L Street Tavern" where they filmed Good Will Hunting (there's an homage to Robin Williams there)
I'm sure I could think of a dozen other places. Anyway I'm glad you visited. Please be sure to go back someday. Thanks for the incredible memories!

Boston is a real national treasure. Beautiful architecture and winding streets that you just don't find in the rest of the country. Even though it's pretty small compared to other cities there's so much to do and see that you could still spend two weeks there and not see everything. When I was young I was there all the time for the sports games and the nightlife. Now that I'm older I find myself amazed by all the preserved history around each corner.

I lived in Boston for 4 years in the early 80s, then moved to San Francisco. I live in NYC now. I still miss Boston, but i don't miss San Francisco at all. California has boring weather. Boston left an enduring impression on me. I loved the random street pattern, with narrow streets and alleys. You can live in Boston for years and still find new things to explore on walks. It's onebof the best cities to explore on foot. New England, in general, is probably the best part of the county to raise a family. They focus on quality education more than a lot of other places.

    • @smesui1799

I lived in East Boston and South Boston which we called Eastie and Southie. Best thing when you come to Boston to visit for a week is grab a weekly bus and subway pass. They will get you around all over Boston and the north shore or where ever the buses and subways travel, depending on the route otherwise you would grab the commuter train, Amtrak, Plymouth and Brockton Bus and Greyhound/Peterpan buses. Boston is walkable and so much to see. I so miss my state but I was priced out of the state completely. Rent and cost for homes are basically for those earning 150k a year or family continues to live together and split rent/mortgage and bills in their adult ages. Thank you for showing us Boston and a bit of Cambridge on the other side of the Charles River! PS remember if you fly into Boston they have a free shuttle bus to the Airport Blue Line subway station and there you can get your weekly passes for either bus or subways or combo pass for 7 days or longer.

I was in downtown Boston recently and was verbally threatened by groups of homeless people to give them money or else. Even reported it to the police, who said they can't do anything about it. What's up with that? Parked at the Redline Alwife station, which had a camp of homeless people living in a small wooded area next to the station. Alwife station looks like it will collapse at any moment, with chucks of concrete hanging on rusted rebar. The subway train I was on broke down 3 times on the trip inbound, and as soon as we got off, was immediately threatened by a group of homeless demanding money. At dinner that evening, the waitstaff was incredibly rude and the food was horrible. On the outbound subway trip, the trains were delayed for over 30 minutes, so more harassment from homeless people while waiting on the platform. No thank you, not planning to go back to downtown Boston any time soon after that experience.
