    I loved the results! It sucks that it matted but I'm glad you found a way to work through it (literally lol). Your hair turned out amazing though!! 😍😍😍 And you got so much volume too!! 😩😩🙌

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much sweetie!! That matting was NO fun lol, a hot mess! I think I'll use it for smoothing too because your results with that were so awesome too!
      I was surprised at the volume since I used half the jar lol : )

    @joigirl3968 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I usually add just a small amount of water as I am smoothing the product in my hair, especially as my hair dries in the last sections that I style. This helps a lot with tangling and matting.

      I'll definitely be doing that next time I give this a go, I need all the help with matting and tangling that I can get lol! I just love your hair!
      Thanks so much for watching!

      Joi Girl yes that is exactly what I was gonna say! I used this today for a wash and go and I definitely added water to the dry areas. This is an awesome product! :)

    Oh I forgot...Maybe try it with a different leave in. I feel like that SM leave in is so thick that a more water based leave in would work better with this gel. I used Kinky Curly Knit Today Leave in with it *hint lol

    Isn't it funny how this gel takes us all around the world with our emotions while we're applying it, but then at the end we actually love the results?😀. Your hair looked beautiful, great video girlie.❤😘

      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much sweetie!! lol you're right about that, a world of emotions for sure! I was truly shocked by how it turned out in the end.
      You know how much I loved your results!
      Thanks so much for watching Jamie!!

    Your results were so pretty! I agree that this clumps your curls together to the point where it can tangle. I do the praying hands method and maybe rake my fingers through once or twice. Then I'll just separate the curls once dry. I've been getting great results from it!

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much sweetie! Lol seriously though, talk about clumps! A lot of people also mentioned to make sure your hair is SUPER wet when using this so I'll make sure to make some tweaks next time to see if that helps with application. So glad it's been working great for your hair!!

    • @thethirdeyejourney3530
      @thethirdeyejourney3530 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ashkins Curls Yes it does help to have your hair pretty wet when you apply the gel. Also try working/warming it up in your hands really well before apply. I get more slip when I do this 💜

    Your results were absolutely awesome!!! I liked my results with this gel, however I can hardly wait to hear about 18 day hair!!! I forgot you were a Cocosta Shikakai lover!! Girl that's been my HG for years!

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much sweetie! I loved how it turned out but my hair felt pretty dry a few days later so I'll end up having to wash much sooner which is no fun. Girl! That product combo had me speechless (not really, I've been raving about it all over IG and FB too lol), my mom thought my hair was freshly washed on day 18. Just crazy. My favorite oil!! The smell, all of it, so glad you love it too!!

  • @FineNaturalHairandFaith
    @FineNaturalHairandFaith 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think you Hair came out great. I think you need to make sure your hair is really soaking wet when using his gel...spritz some water while applying. I didn't have that issue though. I applied the gel while standing in the shower. I just used it.giiiiiiirl!!! I can't wait to upload the video. I agree what you said about Eco tending to leave your hair dry. The coconut gel by Eco has the shimmer. I really liked that one til days later and my hair began to feel dry. no more of the coconut for me. The best Eco I've used to date is the pink one Curl and Wave. Im not going to share my opinion Of this one yet.

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! Totally trying it with the Knot Today, it used to be a HG but I haven't used it for years but three people have told me how much they love it in just the past few days so I'm taking that as a sign lol. That plus making sure my hair is SUPER wet next time should help I hope. Can't wait to see your video! The coconut has even more shimmer than this one lol, it's so pretty and strange : ) I may try the coconut just on one section at first because already my hair is feeling drier a lot sooner than usual with this, and this is probably the more moisturizing of the 2 so I'll have to tread lightly with the coconut.
      I'll have to keep an eye out for the pink eco next time I'm at the store, that one is rare around here.
      Thanks so much for watching chica, hope you and the family had a great weekend.

    • @FineNaturalHairandFaith
      @FineNaturalHairandFaith 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's so odd. I can't see any shimmer in my coconut! Maybe it's just my eyes lol

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow that's weird, mine is almost glittery!! Maybe they dialed down the shimmer on yours which isn't a bad thing, I still may choose a small section to try the coconut just out of curiosity, not all over though just in case hot mess part 2 tries to unfold lol

      Your results were SO pretty!!! Even after all that and finally getting cute results, this stuff made my hair SO dry and caused a bunch of tangles and breakage the next wash day : ( I'm giving the rest and my unused coconut eco to my bestie, his hair loves ANY gel lol

    Great video and review. I have this and LOVE it as well. The best practice for me with Eco application is always water, water, and more water. The wetter my hair is, the better the results. I used this with my Oyin Hair Dew and a little bit of the Whipped Pudding as a moisturizer and got amazing results. I want to try it with a few of my other favorite leave ins before I call it a repeat. That and if I can get it on the ground without my BFF sending it to me from Maryland LOL. Thank you for sharing!!!

      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey chica!!! Thank you so much!! I'm so happy your hair is loving this stuff, I bet your results are beautiful! I was excited to try it again, but after this wash day I had SO much dryness and breakage I decided no more Eco for me : ( Giving the rest to my bestie. I took a break from wash and gos after this to let my hair heal, I'll try one again this month after my next trim in 3 weeks. That product combo sounds lovely though, I know your hair was super shiny and smelled amazing!
      I have seen it appear in some Sallys stores so hopefully it's showing up on the ground for you too!
      Thanks so much for watching, hope you are doing awesome and having great warm weather hair days : )

    Thank you so much for answering my comment. I love all your videos. I just watched a you tube video that she'd a light to the Shea moisture ad. I didn't know this was a campaign of 26 series with women of so many hair textures. I would love you to see this video. Her name is Leah Gordon "So I talked to Shea moisture CEO Here's the Facts Video. She is a Shea Moisture Ambassador who was confused about the ad but now understands what happened.

      Hi Lellie, things have been so crazy and I'm just getting back to catching up to everything here on TH-cam! I watched that same video that you mentioned. Very interesting info that she shared, I'm still planning on chilling out on SM for awhile, just too much drama that I've read about the formulations changing and lots of conflicting info in general. My hair hasn't been really loving the last few new products I've tried from them plus I'm having fun exploring other product lines right now : ) Thanks so much for your kind words, so glad you're enjoying my videos!
      Happy (almost) weekend!

    yeah your hair looks amazing..I just purchased it a few weeks ago..and like you eco stylers are definitely not my thing...but man I loved the first application..what I did find is that I couldn't pair it with my fave leave ins..I watched countless reviews and I learned I had to use the ones that didnt clump on my hair (did the hand test thing) and nothing gelled smoothly together except for two in my whole stash..the flax gel from Nekeshea, and then I went to buy the eco cocktail and I actually used that with an oil and it was magnificent.. :)

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much my dear! We had the same issue with it not working with some of our favorites at first. That initial application is something else when you're not used to Eco working for you lol! Wow just two, omg! I've heard Knot Today is an option too so I think I'll try that next time. I'm glad pairing it with the eco cocktail gave you such awesome results, I'm so glad! Sadly I may still be a no-go eco girl lol. My results made me really happy but my hair feels pretty dry a lot sooner than usual. We shall see! Thanks so much for watching honey, happy start to the week!

    Hi
    Your end results are lovely. I still haven't seen this product in stores and I am so reluctant to buy it online. The coconut Eco also has the shimmer and I do like that gel.
    Thanks for sharing.

      productjunkiediva The gel is awesome but I wouldn't order it online. They're hiking up prices because we're desperately searching for it. I'd say wait until it's available near you ☺️

      Same here, so expensive for what it is on a lot of online shops. I'm glad Sallys is starting to roll it out it stores, going to make it SO much easier for people to try it without those crazy prices.

      Hi Pjd!
      Thank you so much! I think I'm weird in that I think the shimmer is odd but kinda pretty at the same time lol! I think if you enjoy that one you'll love this.
      You may have seen on IG yesterday that some Sallys stores are starting to get the Black Castor version which is awesome!
      So no crazy shipping and prices yay : )
      Hope it's available to you really soon, excited for your results!

    It turned out great in the end but your problem was most likely the leave in you used. It looked like the gel wasn't mixing well with something. I used this gel with KC Knot Today and it's amazing.

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +silkiilocks Thank you!! I'm glad you got great results pairing it with the Knot Today, a lot for people mentioned that they loved pairing it with that one. The leave in I used with it is my favorite and works well with all my HG gels and I don't usually try to pair gels with other leave ins if it doesn't get along with my faves off the bat, Eco has never done great with my hair and a couple days after this vid it really jacked things up, lots of dryness and breakage so I'm not using this again or the Coconut, just giving it to my roomie since I don't wanna chance that experience again lol. Thanks for watching!

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Blue Violets!! I loved my results but the next wash day with detangling my hair with this stuff in there was a nightmare! I should have known during the application that things would ultimately not end well lol. Giving ALL the rest of my Ecos to my bestie, I just can't with this stuff lol. I hope despite the crappy application you've gotten good results with this product after using it to wet bun and after trying it in the shower!

  • @amixeblu
    @amixeblu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I still have 2 big tubs, one of the olive oil one and one of the argan oil one, so I can't justify getting it right now, not to mention they are jacking up prices left and right and it is hard to get. Hmm... maybe it's not worth it, after all. :) Thanks for the review!

      I saw it on Amazon for $35 at one point and I was like are you serious lol??? I really wanted to try it but I decided I would not pay shipping or pay anything crazy for it since it's just Eco, so finding it in the store for $2.59 was perfect : ) I heard today that it is appearing in some Sallys stores so it should get a lot easier for people to find which is really good. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! I really wanted it but I could not bring myself to pay crazy shipping or ridiculous prices just for some eco lol. Amazon had the nerve to have it for $30! So glad Sallys is starting to carry it so more people can try it without jumping through hoops.

    I've used this gel on my 4c hair many times. I'm not sure what I did the first time, but it gave me the cuuutest little curls on my twa. I had to keep looking at it in a mirror because the curls were so freaking adorable. Unfortunately, I can't recreate it. :(

    • @wildflower462
      @wildflower462 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** thank you. I look forward to getting and using it. Maybe it will help revert my curls back after that flat-iron. I had to actually use shampoo today to help get all those products and cones off my hair and my curls still aren't back 100% but they are better than the first cleanse...maybe 80-90%. I even called the stylist to get some ideas on what to do, she kept saying I need treatments...treatments...treatments. I was thinking I'm not going back. I'll find a stylist who can do a trim where I can stay curly. No more flat-irons for me.
      Have a great evening.🙏🏽

      ***** yipppeeee! Thank you so much. I just received my giveaway (the Sarenzo VaVoom clay). I have a serious new love for clays. I used to be terrified but they do such wonders for hair it's amazing. I didn't realize we're in the same state, that's awesome. If you go to the hair show in DC I might just finally meet you. My family and I plan on attending this year. I'll keep it in prayer. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you again, it's greatly appreciated.

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey hun, trying to catch up on all my social media stuff, it has been so hectic lately ughh!! I'm so glad you're loving the clay, that Va VaNilla is a lovely scent, I love all her scents especially because most of my clays have that herbal fragrance, not fun ones like these. They make my hair feel SO good, I'm almost due for another clay treatment, I think I'll wait until my next trim this month. That is so cool that we're in the same state!! Now it makes sense that we both have the same crazy summer humidity lol! I'm still planning to go to the Ubiquitous show this August, I defintely hope we will get to meet! I'm so sorry to hear about your heat damage!! The stylist should have precautions to protect your hair DURING the process, not recommending treatments after the fact once it is already done. One product that may help if you're still looking for something to help your curls spring back and revert more is the Aphogee 2 Min Reconstructor. I use it every 6 weeks (due this next wash day in fact!) to help keep my hair springy and help with breakage. I also use Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Buttercream to restore moisture after I flat iron as well. I wish I could find a good curly stylist here as well, I haven't been to one in almost 10 years because I don't have the best experiences. That mess was no fun! It went from "ooo this is nice" to "wtf!?" really quick lol. I'm glad I could get it to work out! Looking forward to your video, your results on IG look REALLY good!

      Thanks I'm hoping to post it next week. I'll figure out by tonight how I like them lol. I'm somewhat relieved that both sides looked similar 😂😂. I experienced similar to you on the slip disappearing though, thanks for the warning! the coconut oil version was more typical eco styler

    • @AshkinsCurls
      @AshkinsCurls  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did look similar! Uh oh, that slip disappearing is not cool at all, that sucks that the same happened to you! I'm testing the coconut on a small section first, because if the more nourishing left my hair a lil jacked up then I can only imagine lol. Next time I'm going to have my hair be a bit wetter if I'm doing a wash and go, but I really may leave it at a one and done after this jar because my hair is pretty dry now.

      Oh no, girl I suit up! I know eco styler can be drying for me so I used my most moisturizing products under it. I heard people talmin bout it's moisturizing and they didn't put anything under it but I just laughed and stayed in my lane. Eco styler users don't read moisture the way crn / ufd / kccc users do. That's like people saying Shea moisture is the best brand out there. Warning flag that they haven't tried some of the others. I used it with soultanicals slip n slide knot proof hair glide leave in and Camille Rose Naturals whipped aloe butter gel and my almond, grapeseed oil mix. I don't know if that's a flake proof mix though, I don't get flakes, but it's the moisture truth

      Lol I love it, warning sign! Exactly, when I heard people suggested using it by itself I was like that's cool that you can do that but if I did that I might as well get the scissors ready for big chop #2 lmao. Eco users do overall seem to need a different level of moisture than those of us to gravitate more toward the slippy snotty goodness gels. Jon is getting BOTH of my last ecos lol.

    To me, those who support Shea moisture are like women who go back to, and defend cheating men. I do not support them, from the watering down of their products, to the audacity of having a white, blonde woman complain about hair hate. Its like Zoe Saldana in black face playing Nina Simone all over again. Not to mention the ones who still support the brand call the oness who don't bandwagonists, as if they have no reason or right to complain about being disrespected because a black man is CEO, or because Shea moisture puts money in African pockets. Every cent i dont spend on shea moisture is going to an actual black owned brand, so its not like the black community is missing my coins.

    please don't jump on the shea moisture hate band wagon.. please...

      Hi Valerie. I'm not jumping on a bandwagon. I've researched this situation since the whole controversy broke out and I have heard SO much conflicting information that I don't know what to make about a lot of the points raised (lack of representation at some events, ingredient formulation, etc.) The ad itself I find very tone deaf and very poor marketing concerning those featured and the subject of hair hate, but for me it is the catalyst for wanting to get more information, not the sole issue that gives me pause. I've used SM for 10 or 11 years and just in the last year the issues that people have with the company have come to my knowledge, so with such a good track record for the majority of the time I've supported them I want to see where things go moving forward with this brand. I want to believe they still value and understand their core audience and just made a huge misstep with this ad and a few other things, but I can't discredit the concerns that people have without careful consideration from how the brand responds in the future. And until then I don't see why I should actively promote a brand that I have so many questions about on so many serious issues that have been voiced. If I use something from them in a video, or make a post where I used their stuff I'll mention it and mention my results if it's a product I already have in my stash that is new to me, but I want to see how this evolves before I move forward with any future purchases or promotion.

      Ashkins Curls I did a lot of digging on different retailers websites and SM is definitely being shady about reformulation. I had given them the benefit of the doubt because I felt like they were going to make the mistake they did because they are one of the first black owned companies to really make it. Of course they're going to fail at inclusion because we don't really know how that should properly function within this industry. But, the CEO has sworn up and down that nothing has changed but that's a lie. The kicker for me, check the Ulta website for the jbco leave in conditioner. The biggest difference is that the castor oil went from the second ingredient to the twelfth... I don't think they're reformulating for white people because shea butter took the place of castor oil. It looks like they're moving the more expensive marketed ingredients to the bottom to create a cheaper formula while keeping the price the same. That means more money for them. After looking into this I'm done. Transparency is everything and SM no longer seems to value that.

      The Third Eye Journey I honestly enjoy the change, my low porosity 3b hair can finally eat their products up BUT I will no longer support due to the lies. Camille rose is a great replacement

      SniperXBUNBUN Definitely, I can't handle the lies. Plus I was never THAT crazy for SM. I was always more focused on Camille Rose and Tgin.

      The Third Eye Journey have you tried the hair mask from tgin? I see raves about it but I'm not sure if it's any good.
