    Wow I laughed out loud when you sucked the air out with the straw. When I was freezing fresh-picked chestnuts for Thanksgiving stuffing a month ago, I figured "hmm, I bet I can suck the air out with a straw and kind of vacuum pack these!" and it worked! So loved seeing you do the same!

    Freezing cooked ground beef is so handy 😀. I’ve been doing it for 10+ years. I usually put chopped onion in the fry pan near the end of cook time as pretty much all my meat recipes use onion in them .
    Another way to get the air out of your bags of food - before freezing the cooked foods close the bag most of way then use a pot or bowl of water that you submerge the food-filled bag into the water just below the opening of the bag.
    We season, bake and freeze some of our chicken breasts too.
    Like you, we chop and freeze our onions and bell peppers . Makes life so much easier .
    Love your videos 💗💗💗💗

    Great idea! I tend to buy larger amounts and break it into meal size portions, bag and freeze. Your idea streamlines that much more, and will most definitely be added. Thanks!

    My hideously stained cookie sheets are my favorites. They are cured like an old, well seasoned cast iron skillet and nothing stick to them.

    I put a bowl in the sink with a colander in it and pour the ground beef in so it can drain and cool at the same time!

    I enjoyed this informative tutorial a lot, with my favorite part being how to: "shrink wrap by strawing." Excellent idea that I will put in my kitchen "secrets" drawer. Thank you so much for making hum-drum times in the kitchen and garden...so much more fun!

    I use a paper plate and strainer to drain the grease. Then you can run hot water over the beef to wash off any left over grease off in the strainer. The grease will solidify in a couple hours and toss the whole plate in the trash. Just a tip for some, good video.

    Kevin your sheet pans can not look any worse than mine! We know this is not a cooking show where they use new pans every time, be real. Happy Holidays to you and Mr Fox.

    Very good ideal. I'm glad I came across this video because I was making some homemade chili and cooked too much hamburger meat. So I will vacuum pack the leftover hamburger meat with my FoodSaver and put it in the freezer and use it for tacos in the future.

      @@kevinleejacobs1364 Yes, you do! I've already made 2 for Christmas week (a tradition) & they're in the freezer, but I'd love to see your version. Thanks to a hunter friend, I had a bit of ground moose & put it in one, mixed with beef & pork; the other is lamb & beef. They're delicious hot or cold with a side of roasted Brussels or green beans & salad.

    WHY is my frozen hamburger that I bought a 3lb and separated, gray on the outside??

  • @HeidisHereAndThere

    TRICK ON DRAINING THE GREASE:
    Take two 18 inch sheets of foil.
    Place them criss cross over each other in the drain of the sink; form into a bowl shape.
    Pour grease into the foil.
    Allow to sit for a bit to cool.
    Once cool, seal the foil so the grease won't leak out.
    Toss into garbage!
    NO DIRTY BOWL TO WASH!
    ALSO REGARDING CRUMBLING:
    When putting the raw meat into the pan, just crumble it with your fingers into the pan, and no sheet pans to wash either!

    Wow! I never actually thought about cooking the grd beef and freezing it.
    This is a nice time saver. But, I do have a question. How long can you keep it frozen? About 8 weeks? Thanks for the tip, thanks for sharing.

    • @kevinleejacobs1364
      @kevinleejacobs1364  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lori - I store the cooked beef in my "big" freezer at 0°F, where it keeps well for at least 3 months.

  • @mbbrown721
    @mbbrown721 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I put double plastic shopping bags in a pot - insert my colander in the pot and drain. All the grease stays in the bags and goes out in the trash.

    • @kevinleejacobs1364
      @kevinleejacobs1364  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When stored at 0°F or lower, cooked ground beef will keep for a year or longer. Enjoy!

    drain meat in a colander. Put plastic bag under colander, and all the grease will go into the plastic bag.

    Hi! how long is the shelf life of cooked beef in the freezer?

    • @kevinleejacobs1364
      @kevinleejacobs1364  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John - If frozen at 0°F (or lower), cooked beef will keep indefinitely in the freezer. I generally use my cooked, frozen ground beef within 1 year.
