    How long does it last using a 12V battery, can the battery be recharged immediately?

  • @kumarmunish051

    It’s always amazing to see your videos.
    As they all are very informative. May I ask you something!
    Can we charge the 12v batteries from the alternator with the help of rectifier in Dc current?
    And also can we use the alternator as generator with the help of motor controller both side by side( like once alternator as generator and next time charge batteries with the help of rectifier) ??
    Please suggest...
    Thank you

    The rotor will need to have power applied via brushes to make a magnetic field to induce voltage into the 3 phase stater coils. So you must supply power to make power. Unless the rotor is a permanent magnet.

      Not it will not work this way. The only an alternator will function as a motor is to remove the diode assembly and connect a 3 phase controller circuit to it.

    Is it possible to turn the alternator back into an alternator to charge the batteries if there was another source of power? I'm thinking of using it on a motorised push-bike.

    How can you measure ampere without a closed circuit? You put the two multimeter's teriminals in the alternator.

    • @brettschacher8644
      @brettschacher8644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way to measure current in an open circuit, to measure current, you need an Ampmeter installed in the circuit between the battery and the motor input only on 1 lead. Current draw will be the same on each phase however since the power is pulsed you would have to take a reading at higher rpm where the meter wouldn't have time to fluctuate enough to read the display.

    There seems to be alot of cogging love to see this with 72 volts of 84 full

    • @brettschacher8644
      @brettschacher8644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cogging is likely mistaken for the fact these controllers output square wave current, and I'm not seeing any hall sensors used here, The surely is no bemf, (back electromotive force) circuitry used in this setup. So the control system is not sensing rotor position which would cause the motor to be noisy. Increasing the voltage will for sure raise the speed and power production.

    Can you turn a old generator head into an electric dc motor? There’s no videos on this if it’s possible.

    • @brettschacher8644
      @brettschacher8644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generators can be powered as motors without any mods but the will not make very much power as the magnetic field is only a 180 degree field with 2 matching poles opposite each other. If AC power is applied to a generator it should make a bit more power as you switch the field poles each cycle of the power. But AC power is not practical for what this project is about. By using car alternators which have 6 pole fields, there is more force generated in each phase each turn. The phases are 120 degrees apart mechanically, 60 degrees electrically.

      I would say since there is nothing electrical on the back of the housing in this project there are small magnets installed on the outside of the rotor, unless the guy used ring magnets inside the rotor which I have done before.

    You should not attack 24 volts to the induction

    • @brettschacher8644
      @brettschacher8644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? Unregulated output of any automotive alternator is going to be very close to that anyway! Let me tell you this, if you apply 12v dc to any one of the windings continuously it will heat up anyhow. The control circuits for working with this stuff go all the way to 96 volts if look for them. Lots of controllers at 36 to 48 volts are used with converted alternators out there. The power from the controller is not pure DC, it is cycled and switched from one phase to the other of the 3 sets of windings and since alternators are usually equipped with a fan to cool them under the hood, they still get hot, the insulation used on the wires is rated for nearly 200 degrees C so again I will ask why do you say not to use 24v on a 12v alternator ?
