Orhan gencebay is the greatest composer of post-republic Turkish music. Unfortunately, since he is an introverted person, he did not feel the need to announce his music abroad. He is a world-class composer who plays many stringed instruments at the virtuoso level and composes the makam sounds of Turkish music with his excellent orchestration and musical notation knowledge.
He memorized all the maqam, tempo and rhythm patterns of classical Turkish music from the age of 7, and at the age of 15 he became one of the two people who knew the notes in the city he lived in. He also played the tenor saxophone in the army.
He knows the principles of Turkish folk music, classical Turkish music and classical western music very well. He started music by playing the violin and studying classical western music. He knows the jazz and blues discipline, his notation and orchestration are very strong. He even writes his own string partisyon, has a high level of knowledge of harmony, and uses pentatonic scales very creatively. He knows Andalusian, Spanish and Greek music very well. You can hear the timbres of these music in their songs.
Many veteran composers dealing with classical western music in Turkey said that if you were interested in classical western music, you would become a world-renowned composer, but he preferred Turkish music.
He is a real music man and a real idol.

Bence Orhan Gencebay'ın en iyi albümlerinden biri olan "Yalnız değilsin" albümünden bir şarkıyı alıp, bütün dünyaya müziğin nasıl birşey olduğu öğretmek gerekir. Okullarda ders olarak okutulması lazım.
Yalnız değilsin albümü 1994, bu albümde Büyük Usta İsmet Topçu'nun da büyük rolü ve emeği vardır. Saygılar!

In the 1960s, every young person interested in music attached great importance to TRT. Almost like Oxford and Harvard. TRT was the number one state institution in music education and music performance at that time. Getting into that institution meant proving yourself, but winning was very difficult. Every year, thousands of young people took exams to enter TRT. Orhan Gencebay won the exams organized by TRT both in Istanbul and Ankara, with the first place. His talent was great. The expert jury of 16 people in Istanbul stood up when the exam was over and gave him a standing ovation. he was just 21 years old. He later became a music legend.

This is the first edition of Hatasiz kul olmaz. He remade this with a modern version. The big instrument you see is called a Sitar, indian instrument. And also Orhan gencebay also is an actor and played in couple unique story based movies. It's a real legend, love the man !

Great reaction as always. He is a singer songwriter composer and was a actor has quite a few leading roles in 80’s 90’s. His riffs inspired the like of Pink Floyd and many English and American rock band, Of the 70’s. He is the master of the Saz ör bağlama electric and none electric. Few years back it was his 60th anniversary in music industry so 20 famous singers sang their favourite Orhan gencebay song in one album. Need too check it out Tarkan sang this song as it was his favourite song. Great cover.
He definetly didn't inspire Pink Floyd. But he inspired Led Zeppelin, Rob Zombie, Nile etc.

This song titled "hatasiz kul olmaz (a turkish expression meaning no one is perfect) is really good choice, i would like to say it's one of GENCEBAY's extraordinary songs but it will be a serious fault, because this song is incomparable to other works of GENCEBAY and unique in its genre, I can even say that this iconic song of GENCEBAY is one of the most marked songs in the musical history of Turkey in the 20th century, literally LEGENDARY......

Bariş Manço was a milestone of Turkish Anatolian Rock and Pop, Orhan Gencebay is a milestone for Trukish Folk and Modern fusion music. I personally do not like too much of Turkish Folk Pop musicbut Orhan Gencebay has touched my ears in a good way :)
Not only he is a very talented musician but also as a person, he was extremely honest, direct talking, straight figure. You also should listen to English meaning of the songs. He is reaching out to the people who suffered from injustice, parental abuse, poor people etc..

Turkish music scene has produced some of the -positively- sickest arrangers *of the world* during the 70s. Among them, top of the pack would yawn out of boredom (No offence, yet 'fact') at the avant-gardes, prodigies, revolutionaries and the like of the western (US/UK) mainstream of the era. The vast pool of variety they had brought up with would be sufficient reason by itself, add talent and highest quality education on top of that.
Don't take my word for it, you'd be glad for every moment of you discovering it yourself. ;)

Also, classical western polyphony, harmony, Spanish music, Andalusian, Sephardic music, Indian music, blues, country, jazz tones, Middle Eastern motifs. that is, the entire world geography has musical elements. It is ridiculous and insufficient to describe it as arabesque.
