Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
This was a solid reaction, I could see you appreciate all the key elements of a Nightwish show, and the flawless way they delivered it. As you said, so much power and control. "Wow" indeed.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6'1" Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great and convincing doing it all.
The end bit here... Isn't it it a G? Ok; not 8 seconds, but... A true Moto GP (human) machine. The power never ends...
@@joguipo The D6 was in her version of Phantom of the Opera, with Henk Poort. This note is a G#5. The difference between this note and the Phantom one is that this is a belted note and the Phantom note is a headvoice (IIRC, am no vocal coach) note, different techniques and both particularly high for the chosen technique.

I get goosebumps and shed tears every fucking time I listen to this, and I've listened to this at least 50 times. I going to call this a Masterpiece.
I was there. Drove 4 hours to Germany after work and made it just in time. Prebought tickets for the entire festival just to see this gig. I've seen a lot of bands and seen Nightwish live multiple times too. This was the best live performance in my life. 70K people there, al hyped up. An experience I'll treasure forever.

Wacken 2013 is probably the best live version of Nightwish you can find; the band performances are stellar and the sound mix is top tier. Nightwish is the gift that keeps on giving, as I myself found out when I discovered them in their Floor era.
Nice reaction! You'll get loads of comments and recommendations but the Wacken 2013 concert is certainly the place to consume the first 4 or 5 Nightwish songs. Don't be tempted to dive into 'Poet and the Pendulum' or 'Greatest Show on Earth' too quickly. These are each huge and you definitely get the most out of them if you know a bit about Tuomas and the band first. Research is important with those two! 'Romanticide', 'Storytime', 'Everdream', 'Dark Chest of Wonders', 'Song of Myself', 'Last Ride of the Day' - in fact any song from Wacken will blow your socks off and demonstrate the variety and quality of this band. I don't know of any vocalist, male or female, who is better than Floor (Floor Jansen is the singer...) but what really sets her above anyone else (in my opinion...) is the fact that she really can sing literally anything!

Re Nightwish: Poet and the Pendulum has some of the most headbanging moments I know of as well as like 10 minutes straight of goosebump-inducing Floor Jansen vocals, Song of Myself chugs along like old school Panthera, Romanticide has an awsome guitar solo and a mindbending chromatic scale vocal from Floor and Marco, 7 Days to the Wolves is a headbanging masterpiece of composition, Devil and the Deep Dark Sea has moments of like quadruple tempo drums and guitar interspersed with Floor shattering the gates of heaven with her voice.
Storytime goes hard with an awsome guitar and bass riff( and Floor even harder with her voice), Yours is an Empty Hope is so heavy you feel 10 feet tall listening to it(and Floor GROWLS)....
You know what, just check them all, there's not a bad song in there, and there's literally a dozen or more masterpices that people will still listen to in a hundred years.

Greetings from Finland, the home of Nightwish. I've seen comments on other YT channels saying that both Nightwish as a band & GLS as a song are the most reacted to band/song on YT,. Be it true or not, I don't care as long as I get my daily fix of GLS or any other performance by Nightwish, especially with their Valkyrie Queen of vocals known as Floor Jansen.
I LOVE how you break up your reaction and commentary to 2 parts, so you could (and did) let this incredible epic performance play all the way out with very little interruptions. Gonna head to part 2 to hear what you have to say, especially about Floor's (who I LOVE). And how about that incredible, ferocious drummer Jukka, who carried the energy and power for the entire 10+ minutes. Unreal.
The music reminded me much of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Excellent musicianship! The vocalist, although she has a pretty voice, sings more in her upper chest than her diaphragm. She has range similar to Ann Wilson of Heart, but with less power.
This is my first exposure to Nightwish and I liked it. Now I will have to hear more! 💜💜💜💜💜

Would it not make sense to be slightly to one side and to have the video you are watching shown to the upper left or right of you, in a larger format? At present, there is a large expanse of unused black space and the video being critiqued is tiny

I don't know how to explain this but for someone new to Nightwish you really can't get a handle on what they are about without hearing a lot of it, their catalogue of music is so vast, ranging from the most beautiful pieces of music you have ever heard, through to face ripping metal that would put Metallica to shame, and every color in between

On that last high note, you got what is called a "Floorgasm". lol Emppu's lead was not written to impress anyone because the song was made to allow the drummer and the singer to shine. And shine they did... extremely brightly!! And to think... Floor Jansen was just a fill-in as a favor for Tuomas (keyboard player/founder). She stepped in for the first time with Nightwish on October 1, 2012 in Seattle, Washington and helped them out until their last concert together at the Wacken Music Festival in Germany on August 11, 2013. Many songs from this venue are going to be requested. If I may...

You find The Band, good for you! You do reaction videos with your wife too, do not Nightwish. After one or two reaction videos she ask you choose her or Floor Jansen and you have to really think what to do, you can't help it. There are many couples gone away after one Nightwish reaction. Call me crazy, but this is one of those weird bands that sound a hundred times better to me live. I just can't get into the studio stuff as much. (Also, whoever does the sound engineering for the live shows is top shelf...and that stuff ain't easy. Don't let em get away...pay em whatever they want and chalk it up as the price of doin business)
The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded.
