Nope, wrong. They ARE trying desperately to "grow the sport" by making a complex technical skill a stupid carnage circus like supercross demo derby nascar, and by having commentary that is hovering around 85 IQ and never explaining why riding bikes at this level is almost unbelievably difficult.
You're part of the new target audience and you don't even know it.

Following UCI DH for 30+ years. Another vote for Aaron Gwinn! With Aaron the commentary is a much higher level. PLEASE listen to the fans and riders and get rid of the Semi Finals. Too much exposure for injuries and not nearly as exciting. And how is someone like Bernard Kerr not protected every final with a #5 plate from last year and currently #10 overall. Fix this great sport please before its too late. And if we want to show a real crowd that will make Le Gets look quiet get a WC race back in Vail, CO like in the late 90's. Must have been 10k+ people surrounding the slalom that year with loud music and jumbotrons when DH was just getting on TV.
I've followed for 2 decades, first indirectly through seasonal DVDs like Sprung and Earthed, then Freecaster then RedBull and now this. Aaron Gwin's commentary is better than anyone else's ever, historically. More intelligent and insightful. For an informed fan of DH you can't get better. Sorry to those who love Rob Warner's excitement, but I'd rather the commentary be like World Cup Alpine FIS race coverage, informed and intelligent. Not "adding excitement." It's not pro wrestling.
Cedric seems to struggle with translation in the moment, why not let him be the primary in French language, and let Aaron be the primary in English language?
Ric was very good with enduro recaps the past 2 seasons but seems out of depth here, though sincerely trying to adjust.
The gal at the finish line is awful. Like she's someone's niece or something.
As to the status of their formatting: the semis and selectivity factors are ridiculous if the tracks are going to be orthopadic injury nightmares like Snowshoe, or uberspeed trauma factories like the majority of the past few years' 1-line bike parky things. If you are looking for carnage you should go to roller derby or pro wrestling or nascar event coverage, and the UCI should not be courting you. Take note of FIS alpine ski race coverages and formatting for more ideas, UCI.
I like the new flex baton course marking and the polypad things, for some reason my eyes work better with the occasional post marking vs tape continually. And the polypads can be used in interesting ways & not end up some corny add-on, when done correctly.
I agree the semi final needs to go.

It's obviously just to say, "you are our puppets," which is a disgusting thing to see from UCI. I'd blame Disney but UCI does plenty of stupid things in other disciplines.

The race footage has been terrible ever since freecaster started covering races. Races always are won or lost in sectors that are not covered by video "coverage" footage. So if you've been watching in the era of freecaster to present, you haven't seen any good coverage. The current Disneycrap corporate format is about equal to what RedBull had -- never any cameras where the races are won/lost. They prefer the "high speed madness" sectors. Hollywood nonsense. What do they know about sports, hollywood "executives"? They wore "Kick Me!" signs in HS.
All the good sectors coverage was done back in Alex Rankin's days with Sprung and Earthed. Or today, in the non-official "coverage" that you may find. VitalMTB RAW done by John Lawlor is usually awesome.
Can we get Gwinn and Warner, drop the semi-finals, drop the drones, and get back to business? This year's experiment has not been great, especially hard to watch now.
Agreed... This is what you get when the UCI greedy executives try to squeeze as much revenue out of mountain biking as they possibly can. The trouble is that UCI is dominated by road cycling people who really don't give a shit about MTB, BMX or gravel. They just want the revenue the fans bring. Whilst they never bother to try to understand MTB.
For what it's worth I voted against Australian Mountain Biking joining up with the road-bike-dominated AusCycle.
Give the coverage to MoiMoiTV. They could do a much better job.

The steepness of the course really shines when it's not a go-pro camera. Looked like a flat trail in some of the pre-race footage from some of the riders.

The camera shot choice is pretty abysmal for the womens' racing when there is so much time spent staring at trees and sky and so little time watching actual racing.
where have the good commentators gone from previous years, these guys sound like they're not even interested in DH, bring back some excitement to the commentary booth
let me get this correct, @29.44 even on a highlights reel they (producers) still miss the action and just show an empty track. But on a actual riders run they edit the crap out of it??? GOOD JOB

There are no corners in a DH course… there are bends where you turn (no “cornier”). A corner is an intersection.A turn is a bend on a racetrack.

He is obviously struggling with translation and they should not have put him in this position to have to be expert-level fluent in a language where he's conversational, not expert. They would be smarter to give him French speaking and let him talk to the French language audience around the world.
Everyone I know who rides MTB calls these things corners, which you say are not called corners. Perhaps the person struggling the very most here is not Cedric, but you.
