    All those German engineers and this is the best drainage connection they can come up with? Have they ever heard of a hose clamp?

    Thanks - this is a great vivid view of the drainage system, making it easy to see what's only hinted in other vids. Some other ways these same tubes fail, from many online reports: (1) 'spider traps' at bottom become clogged - for the early Tiguans (black rubber nozzles), many recommend just snipping off the ends, for later Tiguans (red flaps), removing the flaps; (2) shrinkage of tube in length causes it to pop up out of the egress nozzles, requiring ad hoc extension - if you've got floorboard water *without* ceiling stains, this (rather than the top-connector failure) may be the problem; (3) other kinks/deformation in clipped tubes causing clogs - and ofc common use of wire/air to try to unblock can sometimes trigger the other leak/disconnection failures at top/bottom connectors :(. If ever revisting this, another great thing to show clearly would be the full path of each tube from roof to egress, and the bottom egress areas, especially at the front a-beams - both from the 'outside' (actually under windshield?) and inside above front-seat floorboards. They're harder to reach & view than the back egresses without panel removals. (The back egresses can be spied from below and through taillights or trunk side-storage panels.)

    So if you're somebody like me who doesn't have a clue about this stuff, what would it cost to have a mechanic do this?

      quoted $7000 last week at local dealer ($300 diagnostics, $2400 parts, $3,300 labor) who all along never told me of ongoing class action lawsuits (since ended) last October 23. Decided to do it myself, why I'm here. Thanks for this, BUT you show it all apart, NOT how to get to this point. Assuming headliner comes down via snap outs along edging

    The Tiguan (first gen like this one) has improved sunroof drain tubes available.
    The original rear were 5N0-877-223. The original front were 5N0-877-231. Those were dropped in JUL 2015 and updated with the new universal drain tube, 5G0-877-228.
    You will need (4x) 5G0-877-228 tubes per car. The new part number is currently less than USD$17 each. Since VW has moved to a new universal drain tube, it makes keeping replacement parts easier to kep in stock. This new universal drain tube has two molded ends, one fits the ball and socket as shown in this video, the other fits the older sunroof nipples like the Mk3 and Mk4 cars. Just cut the end off that you don't need for your project.

    That's a large part of why a hardtop is better overall for a vehicle. If there's any break in the gasket that protects the interior from rainwater or water from a carwash, then you're always going to start seeing water pouring in the cabin. Something that's not a problem for a hardtop....

    Hello, for what reason there are white tube more in front of the sunroof drain hose connections, which is just inserted inside the plastic? This tube goes somewhere to the back of the sunroof. I have an issue on this tube leaking and looking how to fix it...

  • @lianefutch2189
    @lianefutch2189 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is likely bad advice. Locate the output end of the drain lines and remove the orange flappers which are probably stuck causing the water to back up in the tubes and overflow into the sunroof interior channel. Fixed this on mine in about 10 minutes for free and has worked perfectly ever since. Every situation is different but try this first before taking apart the whole car!

    • @speedlinegarage
      @speedlinegarage  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We took it all apart because we needed to dry interior. There are multiple ways these drains can fail. Clogging is just one of them

    See Same topic by D&D repairs, published a year agoGuys! The water is backing up from the blocked drain which has a flexible rubber seal. The seal is red in colour and located in the engine compartment under the windscreen washer plastic cover. The rear ones are behind the wheel arch .

    It has 4 drains and the 2 in the front I can see from above but the rear drains I can not find.
    but where are they by the window.
    at the part of the glass on the roof that cannot move

    • @chrisauret3785
      @chrisauret3785 ปีที่แล้ว

      All four are in the sunroof corners, the front two are 'easy' to see, the back two are under the sunroof glass. I used a long bendy wire brush (from amazon) to clean all of them. For the front two I could pass the wire brush down the holes which you can see (from outside/above). For the back two, i pushed the wire through form the inside so that it popped out the other sunroof holes at the back. Just disconnect the blue tubes for the back two... Anywayeven after cleaning all the drains it still was soaked after some heavy rain.. will need to investigate more.

    Еще одна подсказка: вода в салон Тигуана может попасть из задних дверей. Уже несколько раз устранял эту проблему своим клиентам. Конструкция задних дверей на мой взгляд провоцирует эту проблему, и со временем вода попадает в салон.

    I have a 2012 and I just had the drains cleaned last week. We just had a downpour and the windows steamed up . I just went out and found 3" of water under the spare tire! I don't get it, I think it's time to sell it.

    • @BLACKWOLF-1911
      @BLACKWOLF-1911 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chetangoenka there are 4 drains in the corners of the sunroof, the drains run down behind the front and rear tires. Open the sunroof and look for the drain Openings and use something like a 2ft piece of trimmer line to snake down the tube. They should be plugged in the first couple of inches, not so much in the bottom. Run the line down each one then pour water into the 4 corners and make sure the water runs out from behind the tires.

      @@BLACKWOLF-1911 Thanks. WIll give it a try. But last time the same problem happened and the water leaked in the tire well, it was the end of the drainpipe (somewhere near the rear wheel, which was clogged with leaves and debris. Hopefully this works.
