I’m Somali this song reminds me of my grandmother. She was a strong woman who managed to bring all her kids overseas by working in dangerous war torn country. She even raised the children of her husbands second wife that he did not tell her about as her own after their mother ran off on them because my grandfather refused to leave my grandmother for her. She would pray to god. Always puts others before her own comfort.

I was thinking that all the people sould have a house, food enough and education. ONLY after that is assured, the man sould aspire to conquest the space 😢

Not many songs can conjure up our deepest emotions especially ones of sorrow and hardship yet determination in the battle we face striving for the betterment of ones self as well as others this is such a song.
Such a sad song! She lives in a world she didn't choose. I think many of us can relate in some ways a certain time in our lives when we have struggled.
Beautiful. I love her wordplay. "She lives in a world she didn't choose and it hurts like brand-new shoes". I take it she means pain is pain, we can all identify it because we've been there? It's how you handle it that matters. And Sade in London sings "I wish I was that brave" is also significant. She doesn't knee-jerk "let me help this poor person". She recognises this woman's strength instead. Hell, Hell Hell. I can't get over it. Beautiful track
In my opinion there aren't enough songs or artists like this anymore. Thank you so much Sade for inspiring and touching the very deeply hidden soul of me. ❤️
"My Mother did the very best she could, In times of struggle she would still provide for me, I would hear her pray sometimes, begging the heavens to let me live a long happy life, My Mother did everything for me, for us, she tried her best to ensure we survived, I wish I was more like my mom, that way she wouldn't have to struggle alone..."
Sade thank you for giving us over 30 years of real soul music. I could never listen to any of your songs only once. All your music stayed on repeat. There's only one SADE!!! I'm just giving you your flowers and letting you know you are special . Your songs just hit different and you feel it in your soul. Thank you from your #1Fan !!!

I love Sade so much. nothing can describe my feelings that her songs give me- this song is an absolute masterpiece and goosebumps rise on my skin every time I hear it. from the lyrics to the meaning, the vocals to the music, everything is perfection. I feel connected to all of her songs and that's what I believe is important as a singer. her songs never bore me.
My grandmother's name was Pearl, and she truly did what she had to survive, every time i hear this song i am instantly taken to the story of a woman who gave love as best she could although she hardly ever received it back. She was brave indeed
I had the pleasure of seeing this beautiful woman (like a priestess) perform this live (front row) people I'm telling you it was....only word that comes to mind is sacred, not of this world. Entire crowd grew silent. Idk if there was a dry eye among us when Sade finished the "prayer"
I think as a Sade fan I thought I listened to all her Art yet I never heard this song until the day my mom passed... this song helps me think of my MOM In a way no one can understand ... thank you Sade .... Miss you mom 5/7/17 🙏🏼😔
May all your Loved Ones Rest in Peace...reading your words and listening to this Song...I can't imagine your loss. Godspeed to those who where taken too soon.
Truly awesome. Very few songs can bring me to tears. I grew up listening to all types of music, this is a classy slow jazz type song with a focus on human struggles. I grew up knowing Sade, loved her music, but did not hear this song until I hit a rough patch in my life a few years ago. I suffered from a neurological condition that wiped out some of my past memories and left me where there are times I’m unable to articulate my speech. This song is a reminder that we all are Gods children and we all have our struggles. Regardless of our struggles their are others struggling worse. What we learn from our struggles we can use help others in theirs. My co-worker had something similar she was there for me. Never seen a grown man cry before until I heard this song and her story. Sade you are truly the best thank you for this beautiful song and reminder that there are others struggling far worse than us. Thank you for sharing your gift.
I love the line, “hurts like brand new shoes” not only is it creative but it contrast my life and struggles with someone truly struggling at the same time. Really powerful line
I’m from Cleveland Ohio….I’m a 63 year old white woman….and can’t even imagine how hard it would be to grow up somewhere like there!!! My heart breaks and I pray for All women everywhere….that has ever lived……and that ever will…. I Love you All my Sisters 💔💔💔🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
This song gets right in there...so very powerful, direct, and emotionally authentic....brings out deep grief with every listen. Brilliant Sade at her beautiful best.
She was one of the last concerts that I went to, and unfortunately that was about 20 years ago here in Detroit. She didn't tour often. It was truly magical and so very soulful. ❤️

You know who I think of when I hear this song? Samia Yusuf Omar, the Somali Olympic sprinter who died trying to make it to Italy so she can be an Olympic medalist and help her family.

I am a 65 year old, husband, father and grandfather. Play this song with your children and grandchildren. And let them see the words. Don’t be afraid to show them your tears . I was raised by teenage parents. It took a force more powerful than nature, to keep us all alive. Maybe your children and grandchildren will be more empathetic. Maybe they will care less about the fancy house and cars. Maybe they will donate to charity like I do. Maybe songs like this, and seeing thier role models show it to them, can make a difference. I have been battling a rare cancer for 4-1/2 years. It takes a force more powerful than nature, to keep me and the woman in the song alive. We cry to the heavens.. alleluia

My Father served in the Army and was deployed during Operation Restore Hope to aid and assist for the relief mission in Somalia. Listening to this and having perspective for that time period truly hits me hard. Wishing for peace and prosperity for all regardless of where you live and how you live.
This is my sleep song, My parents were born a long time ago so when I was born I was introduced to many older artists and Sade was one. She's so amazing I discovered this song a few months ago. I can't go to sleep without this playing in the background. I will remember and cherish her songs forever.
Hallelujah is a sacred word containing the name of God. It is often used in vain. Sade restores the urgency and sacredness of it when she sings it. Beautifully sung.
This is real poetry, this is timeless music. I bet yu in 30 years from now, it'll still be making sense. Thank you so much Madam Sade, you are healing the world and creating awareness for the helpless, and making those with more in their hands know of their responsibilities to humanitarian responsibilities. Eating and disposing when they full while there are other fellow humans who have nt even had a meal in days.
Sade is so soulful. I listen to this song almost every day. Get a little high and anything she sings just brings everything to a new level. You hear every note, every instrument.
Adupe, Iya Sade.! so beautiful, wise, ethereal. Her understanding of he range of human emotions is extraordinary. -- This is my absolute favorite song from her collection. Baby Father is a close second.
Sade is a one of a kind with her own style - creative, sophisticated, soulful. She also has a lovely stage presence that is nothing but class. Love her and love this song. Previous to tonight, I had only heard India Arie's version but then discovered the originator - Sade. Just beautiful.
Once you're at peace and you are mature this song makes so much sense.. RIP to my Dad I will forever listen to Sade because of you pops.. I listen to this every morning to start my day.. Sade speaks to your soul..

There is a woman in Somalia
Scraping for pearls on the roadside
There's a force stronger than nature
Keeps her will alive
This is how she's dying
She's dying to survive
Don't know what she's made of
I would like to be that brave
She cries to the heaven above
There is a stone in my heart
She lives a life she didn't choose
And it hurts like brand-new shoes
Hurts like brand-new shoes
There is a woman in Somalia
The sun gives her no mercy
The same sky we lay under
Burns her to the bone
Long as afternoon shadows
It's gonna take her to get home
Each grain carefully wrapped up
Pearls for her little girl
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
She cries to the heaven above
There is a stone in my heart
She lives in a world she didn't choose
And it hurts like brand-new shoes
Hurts like brand-new shoes

I had the pleasure of seeing this beautiful woman (like a priestess) perform this live (front row) people I'm telling you it was....only word that comes to mind is sacred, not of this world. Entire crowd grew silent. Idk if there was a dry eye among us when Sade finished the "prayer"
Ughh love her!!!! Heavenly
Zahraa Abdul-Hussein Haha yeah.

Same but the song that got me through my daughters death was long road ahead. Sade touches my soul

May your mom rest in peace. All love from Florida. ❤️❤️❤️
🙏🙏💙
That was beautiful. I'm glad music like this can bring us all together.
Am so proud and happy there artist who recognize african Somali woman how hard them life is. And my mam is Somalies 😍😍😍😍😍
I love the line, “hurts like brand new shoes” not only is it creative but it contrast my life and struggles with someone truly struggling at the same time. Really powerful line
We’ll never fully understand the strength and dedication of our mother’s....Thank You Sade for giving us insight through your beautiful voice.
She Cries to the Heaven above There is a stone in my heart ❤️ 2020

I’m from Cleveland Ohio….I’m a 63 year old white woman….and can’t even imagine how hard it would be to grow up somewhere like there!!! My heart breaks and I pray for All women everywhere….that has ever lived……and that ever will…. I Love you All my Sisters 💔💔💔🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
Her voice is so majestic
This song gets right in there...so very powerful, direct, and emotionally authentic....brings out deep grief with every listen. Brilliant Sade at her beautiful best.
This woman makes music I thought only could exist in dreams…..❤️❤️❤️
She is one of the only artists out there that can move me to tears. She is a goddess 😢🙏🏾🙏🏾
Mom passed today. This was one of her favorite songs. Sade she loved your music
😢😢
She was one of the last concerts that I went to, and unfortunately that was about 20 years ago here in Detroit. She didn't tour often. It was truly magical and so very soulful. ❤️
I love this song, I have no words but I love this song, it's out of this universe, Sade's voice
There is a woman in Somalia
Scraping for pearls on the roadside
There's a force stronger than nature
Keeps her will alive
This is how she's dying
She's dying to survive
Don't know what she's made of
I would like to be that brave
She cries to the heaven above
There is a stone in my heart
She lives a life she didn't choose
And it hurts like brand new shoes
Hurts like brand new shoes
There is a woman in Somalia
The sun gives her no mercy
The same sky we lay under
Burns her to the bone
Long as afternoon shadows
It's gonna take her to get home
Each grain carefully wrapped up
Pearls for her little girl
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
She cries to the heaven above
There is a stone in my heart
She lives in a world she didn't choose
And it hurts like brand new shoes
Hurts like brand new shoes
You know who I think of when I hear this song? Samia Yusuf Omar, the Somali Olympic sprinter who died trying to make it to Italy so she can be an Olympic medalist and help her family.
Quel immense...contraste !
This song fills me with so much emotion.....her voice is so soft BUT POWERFUL❤🙏
Heart haunting lyrics and sung perfectly. This song moves me to tears.
The Donna Summer cover is BRILLIANT
she reveals human nature in song. this what humanity needs
Sade, the Queen of charme,beauty,voice....Forever in my heart
Damn! Damn! Damn! Embracing, something that should never be forgotten, kind of urban legend material, but a lot more touching
We cry to the heavens.. alleluia
i’m sorry to hear about your cancer. i really hope things get better for you. you have such beautiful words ❤
Dear Dave, thank you for your beautiful comments about this greatest of songs.
@@daveandersen2484 I’m 63 from Cleveland Ohio. I pray that God heals you of your cancer my friend. Even if it is a rare cancer….our God is bigger. I will be praying for you and your family and friends…May the Lord be with you ✝️☮️❤️

My Father served in the Army and was deployed during Operation Restore Hope to aid and assist for the relief mission in Somalia. Listening to this and having perspective for that time period truly hits me hard. Wishing for peace and prosperity for all regardless of where you live and how you live.
This is simply beautiful. This track in particular brings back beautiful memories. I just can't hold back the tears...
This song reminds me of my mother. It’s kinda sad tbh
Absolute magical voice here and lyrics and story of this song a tour de force
This. This is the greatest piece of music I have ever listened to in all my years on earth. A musical masterpiece
I love this song.
Love this song
Ditto
This is my sleep song, My parents were born a long time ago so when I was born I was introduced to many older artists and Sade was one. She's so amazing I discovered this song a few months ago. I can't go to sleep without this playing in the background. I will remember and cherish her songs forever.
I agree
This song gives you motivation to be strong.❤
Hallelujah is a sacred word containing the name of God. It is often used in vain. Sade restores the urgency and sacredness of it when she sings it. Beautifully sung.
This song is so beautiful
One of the most beautiful, haunting, excellent songs ever written by a female artist. Anyone who listens to this song will feel it.
Sade is a real beauty queen and has so much talent.
She lives a life she didn't choose...
And it hurts like brand new shoes.
I felt that.
I am that.
Every lifetime cycle there are unique and gifted people who walk this earth.. SADE is one of them.
Sade is so soulful. I listen to this song almost every day. Get a little high and anything she sings just brings everything to a new level. You hear every note, every instrument.
I love her such a deep sadness in her voice. You feel every song and when listening you pull them close to your our heart and your soul. ❤️
The sweetest song ever love me some sade no one like her ....
Sade !!!!!!! The OG 90s r&b
Adupe, Iya Sade.! so beautiful, wise, ethereal. Her understanding of he range of human emotions is extraordinary. -- This is my absolute favorite song from her collection. Baby Father is a close second.
Hallelujah sends chills and vibrations up the whole right side of my body
Sade is a one of a kind with her own style - creative, sophisticated, soulful. She also has a lovely stage presence that is nothing but class. Love her and love this song. Previous to tonight, I had only heard India Arie's version but then discovered the originator - Sade. Just beautiful.
Sade is timeless ❤
Listeners: is there anybody else listening to this calmly but wen that Hallelujah comes in the tears just flood 😢
Once you're at peace and you are mature this song makes so much sense.. RIP to my Dad I will forever listen to Sade because of you pops.. I listen to this every morning to start my day.. Sade speaks to your soul..
The song is a spiritual story that leads you on a journey. The hallelujah is the crescendo.
