I've been waiting for this one Nick and Jenn. My mom actually asked me to watch this movie with her, I was 22 and she had watched it on her own before lol. This movie and my mom reignited a dormant love I had for the Alien and Predator franchises and an enjoyment of watching movies with my mom again after years apart. Nick, I'm talking to you and I want to say that you should cherish every moment with your mom. She's my TH-cam movie mom. I lost my mom ten years ago next April. I could talk forever about this movie and my mom because it was one of the best movies my mom and I ever shared together. Good feelings :)

Ok...Mama Jenn saying on behalf of the Predator, " You did NOT JUST spit that sh*t at me!?!". I giggled...everytime I hear her swear it simply makes me giggle like I'm catching my mom cuss. My mom was very old fashioned when it came to 'appropriate' language but in her later years before passing she swore more and more and it would just make me smile. 😄😄 To this day if she were alive I wouldn't dare curse in front her. She was born in the early 30's (both my parents) so my upbringing was a bit different than my peers...my friends had super youthful parents while mine were discussing retirement when I was like 7! People would think they were my grand parents.😳😄 As a kid it kind of embarressed me, but now that I'm older I greatly appreciate all the life lessons they passed on and realized how lucky I was to have them. So long story short....I love this son/mom duo you have! Your reactions are very fun and enjoyable. And maybe I'm easy when it comes to movies but the Requiem had worthy moments...I'd watch it but understand if you don't want to for a reaction. Howdy from the green state of Oregon.☺💚

I love AvP and always will. It was the movie that got me into the Alien franchise. I was too young to remember the actual Alien movies, but after I saw AvP, I ended up watching everything. I'll always remember how disappointed I was with AvP Requiem, lol. Nowadays, I do appreciate Wolf as a character ❤
I watched Alien and Aliens when I was a kid, so I couldn't remember them much except for the concept of the Xenomorph. While AVP is my more recent one and I was a bit older, I remembered enjoy watching it, even though I barely remember Alien movies and never watched predator before. So I was quite surprised learning that lots of people don't really like it😂 for AVP requiem, I tried to watch it twice already, couldn't finish it, didn't even go far enough to know the plot and I thought maybe I was too young and missed sth, I might like it if I watch it today, but from Nick's comment, apparently the problem is not me lol
All you really need is to search TH-cam for clips of Wolf, the Predator character in Requiem. He's the greatest Predator character in the franchise, since he's a blooded veteran with a lot of cool weapons.
This is a pretty good movie in my opinion. In my opinion it's better than most of Alien 3, and definately better than Resurrection. It's also better than the Predator films after Predator 2. It might be a coin toss between this film, and Predators from 2010. It might not be iconic like the first two Alien, and Predator films, but it did a really good job of bringing AVP to the silver screen. There are a lot of really good scenes in the first AVP.
As much as I like this film it is in no way ever better than Alien 3 & 4 or Prey, its badly written, badly shot, badly lit and is ninety percent plothole.
Part of this storyline is the origin story of the Alien franchise and Predators appearing on Earth in the past. Weyland is the same billionaire that the "company" in Alien continues his legacy in the future. Weyland-Yutani is the evil company in the Alien franchise and apparently began its search for the aliens in the galaxy to use them for their weapons division once they were discovered in this story. The Bishop android in Aliens is a copy of the founder of the company who dies in this AVP movie. There are a lot of plot holes throughout the 2 franchises that the movies exacerbated.

The thing I have against this movie is Grid Alien should have survived. And morphed into a new Queen. According to AVP 2010(loved your mention of it, my favourite campaign was the Alien one, too short) , that was done by the surviving Alien (known as Six) when his Queen died. And the CGI was kinda bad.
When people say AVPR is a dark movie, they're not wrong. It's really hard to see what's going on in some places. AKA most of the movie. I do like the story and the concept but not the way it turned out. I love the fact that you know the lore of the Yautja. It makes watching the videos that much more fun
The mythology this story puts forward is fantastic! The main complaint was the PG-13 rating. The studio wanted as much of an audience as possible so they tamed it in order to avoid a R rating.
I'll always defend that movie. not pretending it's a "good" one, but it has very good points and ideas (the fake queen alien head at the opening shot for example). mostly the fact that the entire human cast is made of average and good people, not a single bad one, and they all are killed, that's quite ballsy and goddam, that queen sprinting and fighting, quite the eye candy

This is enough to keep my predator's respect where it is. --- Also, I do not know if many would notice it. The small details like the last remaining predator, scar, out of the 3 were so scared when they saw the Queen because they were still young. This may be their first hunt of Xenos to earn the shoulder cannon. Fighting a Queen in the first trial is way too much for a Unblooded or a young blood. But still, it managed to deal with it somehow.

With that said, Alien: Covenant still only just beats Resurrection in my ranking. For me the top 3 are the original trilogy in chronological order.
The familiar pattern in this Alien universe....a group of people under orders to go in a mission that lands them in a situation that kills them off untill only one survives. The last film that did that is Prometheus.
I enjoy Predators as well and I hope Nick and Jenn react to it. But in my humble opinion this movie AVP is much better than The Predator. AVP2 is better than The Predator and AVP2 was filmed in Canada 🇨🇦

All the parts are there for an interesting movie, and it plays with a number of cool ideas - whether you want to stick to the lore or not. But it's just so inconsistent, even with it's own story, that it becomes bothersome. OG Weylandt, the predators training their recruits on xenomorphs, the pyramids; all cool ideas. But they're not handled very well in a movie that is primarily showing off that it has seen the original, without truly understanding what worked in those. Granted: all the alien-movies (and predators) have been of very different quality, and with very different focus, and everyone has their favorites. But this one just falls inbetween, feeling more like a commercial Resident Evil or Underworld movie, following the tropes. I remember at the time almost feeling bad for a character like Hendricksen's, who has been the one anchor connecting all of it (up until this point). And then we haven't even discussed the - extremely bad - second one. Why have a queen, when you're testing 3 guys? Why would the aliens try and infect humans of there's a queen present laying eggs? Why do they show up on heat-signature? Why do the predators contain them, not allowing the xenomorphs what they do best: evolve through ingestation of new dna? Why are there all these humans skulls in there, when - clearly - that would have been millions of years work at this rate? Why are there human sacrificial chambers when - clearly - they have no need of humans in the whole process? ... the list goes on and on...
Ridley hates all the films he didn't make, he was especially critical of Aliens, funny considering he's made the 2 worst films in the franchise. Even AVP Requiem is better than Covenant and Prometheus.
I agree. I respect him as a filmmaker, as he made some of my all-time favourite movies, but Prometheus was the worst case of characters doing stupid things to advance the plot. The humans in AvP may be bland, but at least they're not completely incompetent.
I think a lot of modern sci-fi horror and horror remakes get a bad rap, when they could just as easily be enjoyed as the classics. It's a different feel, but idk why horror "purists" have to get their panties in a bundle over films like this. I've literally studied film and media and wouldn't turn up my nose at many of these remakes and one-offs, although please be prepared to call out my bias when yall roll around to modern Star Wars, that touches a bit of soft spot where no other series quite does lol

I have alwasy said the only downside for this movie is all the focus on the humans. Once the aliens and predators arrive this film is on point.
Not the best acting and kind of cheesy but the Alien/Pred fight scenes and the human kill scenes are pretty cool.
