A loooong but fun fact: Gay Marshall was born in the US (I don't know the year she was born), and played Maggie in a national tour production of A Chorus Line, then was a replacement for the character Diana Morales in the Broadway production of that musical. She moved to France sometime in the 80s and played Grizabella in the original French version of "Cats", as well as recording an unfinished album and dubbing cartoons. Then, she moved back to the US in the 2000s. She was in the 2006 Broadway revival of "Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living In Paris" and was the only cast member that has heard of Brel before, thanks to her husband. She has released 3 solo albums so far; one of which isn't on any streaming services (well, so far). (I've been a fan of her since I was 13 and researched her music and stuff for a long time. I remember when the media section of her website didn't say "under construction" and i loved every track!)
I think probably 1952 as she was my sister's room-mate at MacDuffie in Mass., before she went to school at Interlochen. The family was from Shaker Heights. She has a beautiful sister named Wendy. Haven't seen either of them for decades. I keep coming back over and over to hear this beautiful version she recorded. of this song.
Could someone please explain to me the difference between these lyrics and the ones of Mireille Mathieu? I don’t speak French but the translation of the lyrics from Mireille Mathieus’ version are so different from the original ones
I think Mirielle Mathieu's was reinterpreted/translated just for her to record it as a single. This version was translated from the original lyrics for a French production of Cats, and it follows the original more closely. Here are the lyrics with a translation to English: lyricstranslate.com/en/la-chanson-de-grisabelle-2-grizabellas-song-2.html
Minuit
Tourne-toi vers la lune
Oublie ton infortune
Revis tes souvenirs
O jour
Que ta lumière arrive
Il faut que je survive
Je dois lutter encore
A l'aurore
Mes souvenirs s'effacent
Touche moi
Ne me laisse pas seule
Seule avec la mémoire
De mes jours de bonheur
Si tu oses
Tu sauras toute la vérité
Vois
