In the book, Bella was aware of what was happening the entire time, but she went catatonic bcuz the transformation was so painful that she had ro kinda dissociate from her body. Also, in the book Jacob was the one giving chest compressions. It had to be him bcuz as her blood was thickening it was like pumping mud through her veins, and he was the only one strong enough to keep the chest compressions going.
