I think it might be more helpful for student to say - (negative) ie. +80 degrees IS Counterclockwise...Always and -80 degrees is clockwise et cetera.

In a more advanced math class, I would refer to direction by positive or negative angles. But, the level of students I created this for are not too that point. They are more adept at understanding clockwise vs counterclockwise.
