Orcas are some of the most incredible creatures on this Earth! I live on the west coast of Canada, where this was filmed, and have been lucky enough to see them a few times - but never as close as him. To see what he saw would have moved me to tears.

It's so cute how excited he is! When I first saw this on tv I thought he was completely crazy but since then I've found out that orcas have never attacked a person in the wild.
Well, there has been 1 documented attack on a human, a surfer back in 1972, but the man survived. Since the Orca bit the man once then spit him out, it's thought that the Orca might have confused the surfer with a seal. But yeah, there have been no confirmed fatalities of humans by wild Orcas.

Anyone remember the 90’s movie Free Willy about the orphan boy who befriended a orca and helped return him to the open ocean? Love that movie as a 14 year old and still do in my forties.
Steve you are definitely incredible and amazing and surrounded with beautiful orcas. They gladden your heart as I when I watched this video. I wish I can bring back magically all the orcas and dolphins from the slavery of seaworld entertainments where mammals naturally and freely move play jump eat big and joined with their family in their own habitat in the ocean/sea/water. Maybe they aren’t playing, but are trying to scare you out of their space. I have had them ‘cruise’ by while sailing; it was one of the larger pods in the San Juan Islands. There was a lead male and all were following, and back on the edges were two large males, like sentries guarding the passage. When the sentry went by my boat he rolled up about 8 feet away and gave us a look with his big right eye. As a kid cruising and camping in a small boat, we often saw the transients (seal killers) on a daily basis. While sailing to Hawaii during the Pacific Cup in 2002, around July 1st about a 1000 miles out, a transient pod of 8 passed under the boat on the North/South compass heading. They didn’t alter course at all, but dove under and surfaced on the opposite side without altering course. What were they doing way out there and where were they going is the big question? When I told this to whale observers in Telegraph Cove on Vancouver Island while on the Van Isle 360 in 2005, they were most astonished by the sighting. I believe that the pod Orca in captivity should be released back to their native pod; they have an identity, a family, a language, a culture, a home, and a right to life. Live or die, it’s the right thing to do.
Male orcas dont lead the pods only the older female is in charge of the pod. Unless its a group of males that separated from their pod to look for females
You are SO RIGHT! It is around US$80 per adult to get into SeaWorld Orlando, plus around US$74 per child. In the Pacific Northwest the Victoria Clipper company runs all-day cruises from Seattle to San Juan Islands , including a FULL 2.5 hours dedicated to whale watching (as opposed to a 30 min Shamu show). Last Sept it was US$70 per adult, children under 12 free. Wouldn't trade that experience for the world!
