The connection between irish and country american music is beautiful, and shenandoah is a perfect example of it
Colm is quite definitely Irish, but the only accent I can hear in Savannah is an American drawl. The accents of the British/Irish do tend toward American while singing (or, an American accent sounds like what happens when you sing in English) but it doesn't turn them into southern belles. Listen to her in The Hanging Tree "sahd by sahd with maye" She's more southern than I am.

@@thegardenofeatin5965: The immigrants who settled into the hills and hollers of Appalachia were primarily Ulster Scots, or as we call them in America, "Scotch-Irish." The fiddles, banjos, and clog dancing associated with Appalachian "hillbilly" and bluegrass music are distinctly from the British Isles. The song "Shenandoah" is associated with West Virginia because the Shenandoah River flows through there (I've personally rafted it a few times), but the song was actually made popular by fur trappers and mountain men in the early 1800s who set out to explore and, hopefully make a living in the new territory of the Lousiana Purchase.
@@7davesanchez: I enjoyed reading your reply concerning this emotionally moving song. I call these folks Scottish-Irish, that might be simply a regional difference. My teachers taught me that Scotch refers to the beverage and Scottish refers to the people and all other from Scotland.

I grew up right next to the Shenandoah my man -- went to undergrad in the Shenandoah Valley as well. This one hits close to home -- we always finished with this song in choir, and I also sing an operatic version of it. Much love ❤

Humble request, but I'd love to hear your take on the Battle Hymn of the Republic (or Glory Glory Hallelujah) by Mitchel William Miller & The Gang. Main thing about his version (to me the best version) is that it's sung as a marching soldier's cadence, as opposed to a regular choir type thing. Thanks :)!
