Hi Sean. Polka Dots is such a simple tune that it can be difficult to play.
Have you heard Bill Evans' take? It's on his Moonbeams album, from 1962, with the first trio. He uses this technique and his colors, along with his use of silence, always inspire ideas.
Many jazz musicians who are Evans fans, are critical of Moonbeams -- too many ballads, they say. I like the recording because of the reasons above, and in it, i hear Bill's mastery of filling time. Barry too, was masterful this way.
What a loss -- Bill at 51, and Barry Harris at any age. 😉 You were fortunate to know him. Thank you for sharing him with us.
