What is Morro Bay Known for?

- We share observations and reactions from a beautiful morning along the Embarcadero in Morro Bay, located along the Central Coast coast of California, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles by the scenic coastal Highway 1. It's known for iconic Morro Rock, an ancient 'volcanic plug' or mound at the end of Morro Rock Beach with 'Morro' meaning 'crown-shaped' being a unique coastal landmark that mariners would use to safely bring their ships ashore. The rock sits within Morro Bay State Park, home to lagoons, trails and a bird-rich saltwater marsh. There's an abundance of year-round outdoor activities like kayaking, surfing, boating, hiking and biking while exploring miles of wildlife along beautiful sandy beaches and dunes... just don't try to climb the rock! We also share why the tall smokestacks from the power plant protrude above the sightline of this quaint town. Foodies can delight in a bounty of fresh seafood straight from the bay. We've found reasonably priced lodging at inns and Airbnb's.

anything but surf, swim or boogie board, what was failed in this video is telling about the great white shark attacks, for instance dec. 24 christmas eve 2021 a boogie boarder was completey consumed save for his foot and ankle attached to the leash evrything else was gone, an estimated 18-20 footer killed him

It’s known for a location of the Table Top Role Playing game called “Cyberpunk” (they turned the small bay town into a crime ridden metropolis known as Night City)
We had no idea, interesting! It's a unique place to use in a game, that's for sure.

Unfortunately morro rock isn’t in the game, but there is a rock station called morro rock radio
Years ago we would stop here on our way through the area when on vacation with my parents. After getting married and growing up my wife and I decided to go here for summer vacation to escape the heat. Once we arrived we had to go to the shops along the bay and pick up sweatshirts because it was that cool. We decided this was our vacation destination from then on. If we could still travel we’d still be making the treak just to relax and recharge. From there we’d make day trips to Hearst Castle, or drive up the winding Hwy 1 all the way to Monterey Bay and back. We’d explore and visit the many small towns along the way. Thanks for sharing.

Morro Bay was one of my hangouts. Even if you were allowed to climb Morro Rock, you wouldn't want to. All of the access points around the rock to climb it are covered with poison oak, dense and thick.

Honeymooned there 43 years ago, but I was visiting many years before. Dorn's the Original Breakers the best place in town. We don't stay in Morro Bay itself to many tourists.

Little lesser known to younger generations but that area was also a small military base mainly for amphibious landing training during WW2. The land layout is little different now but the “T” shape dock that the coast guard has their boats on, that was first build during WW2. There are full old pillars left over but I haven’t been able to find them. Also the first known group of Filipinos with Spaniards landed there on October 18, 1587. There is a small memorial plaque there just off the wall path. Little worn out due to fact it’s been there also 30 years now.

What is the swimming pool like construction with fence around it right at base of rock?
Used to go to the fish market in Morro Bay and buy fresh red snapper or rock cod. I miss that.

My first visit this past weekend. My wife commented on how friendly MB is. Saw an otter seriously chow down on a crab. W/650 PSI bite pressure, don't mess with otters.

Do people climb Morro Rock?
Climbing the rock is possible but not allowed for the general public due to the delicate wildlife habitat there. Another viewer shared that the local Salinan Tribe are the only ones that can climb the rock and have been climbing to the top of Morro Rock twice a year for their religious ceremonies. In addition to viewing the rock from a safe distance, there's an abundance of other outdoor activities like kayaking, surfing, boating, hiking and biking while exploring miles of wildlife along beautiful sandy beaches and dunes while in the area.
