And, as much, I like Delgardo`s Master, I think, Ainley not just copied him, but took all the great things, Delgardo brought to this role, and improved them. Granted, Ainley didn't take advantage of his former hypnosis-abilities, but at least, he didn't try to kill a human via a plastic-chair. ;)
You've got to get Survival. Ainley gets to play the Master the way he always wanted. He's really vicious and nasty. Fabulous. The Ultimate Foe is on youtube, I saw it last week.

I agree. Anthony featured avery aspect of DelGardo (goals, manners, and looks), and included his own twist on the character. As much, as I like Simm's Master (apart from his last appearance). Anthony Ainley will always be THE Master for me... including his "death" in "Destiny of the Doctors" (whish fits quite nicely with the tv-movie).

Both were similar in appearance, but Anthony tended to be a bit more cowardly and in over his head with his shenanigans. Did they ever find a way to bring back the Rahnni in the new series episodes? I need to catch up. She was a bit sloppy, but a good villian...and could possibly be another Timelord survivor if she ever managed to escape those bat people.
Nicholas Dobos Really? The Rahnni or Rani as everyone else knows it. Is a calculating and meticulous scientist. Ainley’s Master suffers from poor scripts and direction. His performance is brilliant and I would say I prefer his performance over Delgado’s including his great performance in the substandard Timeflight. As far as getting in over their head I’d say Delgado was more inept given he made errors in Terror if The Autons with the Nestenes, was affected by his own weapon 8n The Mind Of Evil, wasn’t particularly in control of The Axons in The Claws Of Axons, could not control Azal in The Daemons, was imprisoned by The Sea Devils and was working for The Daleks in Frontier In Space. Ainley’s Master was nearly trapped by his own trap in Castrovalva and having shot himself with his Tissue Compression Eliminator was merely trying to restore himself in Planet Of Fire when the Doctor callously burned him alive. Mark Of The Rani is really a failure of The Rani and Survival is as it says on the tin, about survival. For me because I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s Ainley is, was and always will be my Master. I always remember his iron maiden Tardis and his Tissue Compression Eliminator

the problem with anthony ainley's master was simply that he was a carbon copy of roger delgado's original, a great performance but we'd seen it all before.
Ainley himself said he tried NOT to copy Delgado. They offered him recordings of Roger D's Master, but he never saw them and later said he was happy about that since he was able to play the Master in his own way because of that.
You should watch more of the two. They're very different. Delgado's Master was urbane, physically brave, and had his own charisma. Ainley's was a little more axe-crazy and less likely to risk his (stolen) hide in a confrontation. I got the impression that Ainely!Master would flat-out kill the Doctor if he had the opportunity.
Storm Hawk sort of yeah. I think they wanted someone people would familiarize with as the face of evil. Anthony was like a younger Roger, but more careless & cowardly imo.
