I really cant wait to get hands on one of theses cases for my pinephone. with this you could get the phone to stay in "desktop" mode and use it as a mini laptop that can also get calls! this rustles my jimmies.
Looking forward to buying it once it's available. Trying to use the PinePhone with software keyboards is annoying and I don't like trying to keep the dock plugged in while using my full-sized keyboard.
Looks really nice. I hope a future version might split the Enter key into two, though. This would add another precious key to map, and also make one or two more keycaps swappable, while probably simplifying manufacturing slightly.
A little disappointed to see that the battery is only 5000mah and not 6000mah. But extremely happy to see everything working as intended now! Patiently awaiting my chance to buy one! Thanks for sharing!
I think they should have the shell screwed in instead of clamping it or whatever you call it. Do you think they'll eventually allow for flashing through USB-C instead of soldering? I don't want to solder just to flash firmware.
Nope, doesn't look like it. The USB-C cable seems to be only for power. The funcationality comes through the pins that connect to the pinephone. Huge oversight imho.
Does the USB port also output HID? So can I connect the keyboard to a USB host and use it as a keyboard on said host? I am considering canibalizing one of them for a different phone. If possible, I'd just connect it over USB.
no the USB is only for charging. It's connected to the charge controller chip instead of the keyboard controller. There's d+ and d- test pads on the PCB to connect to the USB port of the keyboard controller but I don't know what interface that provides, at least one for firmware flashing. You might need to modify the current firmware for it.
The goal is to run LibreOffice in Posh on the PinePhone. It can be run by typing: OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome-wayland libreoffice into to terminal. The GUI cannot be started, the LibreOffice installation prevents the start. I have the PinePhone keyboard connected to the PinePhone, which works also for the terminal. I tried to type: OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome-wayland libreoffice Unfortunately, I cannot print a «_» with the PinePhone keyboard. The characters are on the PinePhone keyboard, but neither control, Fn, Alt, AltG nor the special Pine key works to get the characters to be printed in the terminal. How can I modify the PinePhone keyboard driver to support the missing characters?
Hopefully the keyboard will be out soon so we can all enjoy it!

It's here!
@@xhivo97 Yooo no way! On my way to the site to buy it! Thanks for the head's up!
The would be handy. The OS stopped giving me the onscreen keyboard. It is a HUGE problem NOT having access to the command line!
@@toko3d That's weird it doesn't work at all, usually it's just painful to use.
I just hope that there will be little wearoff for the hing cables in the final version. Moving cables use to break even in high quality cars and such.

The software keyboard doesn't pop up with the keyboard attached in Plasma Mobile.
I hope I'll buy one soon, thanks for the video.
Nice! I hope we can get localized keyboards as well.
You don't need to, the keys are swappable. :)

Bravo! Ordered my Pinephone and hope to get one of these nifty guys as soon as it's available for us less talented plebians.

Maybe we can use udev rules to disable software keyboard while using pinephone keyboard.
Will this work with the Braveheart edition ?
I wish this had BT! Would love to put my current phone in it.
I NEED a keyboard for my Pinephone!
Any ETA on this? I can't stand any of the soft keyboards
So would we be able to use the keyboard as a USB peripheral in normal phones?

Does the keyboard case have good drop protection? Or would you be better off swapping to the normal hard case if being active?

@@MartijnBraam Yes, I meant the internal USB port that you used for flashing the firmware. Is the firmware open source?
@@dak1st Yes it's open source, you can find it here: xff.cz/git/pinephone-keyboard/

very cool
