TAPED IN THE OPERA HOUSE ON CASSETTE , 1970--I was at all but one of this run of MANY performances, with Tucker and the Dutch Soprano Deutekom, this was a later performance in the run , (after the first of the run which had him at age 57, he was in excellent voice for it) Veteran soprano Maria Caniglia came back stage and told Tucker "Your voice today is more beautiful than any today in Italy." That opening night of the run in particular , he was in such great voice in that performance e that the years seemed to roll Away, and also the squillo and breath he had in that performance was excellent, sadly no tape recording of it (like this one) exists that i know of.
My music world was small in the 60s. The first tenors I recall were Richard Tucker and Mario Lanza. I became aware of Caruso about that time as well. Later, I added Franco Corelli. The list has since grown tremendously. Still, it remains a small list as the music world is so much larger and broader than I can touch as a listener. This is the first time I have heard this recording.
