@@SriLankaTravelatease I did receive my ETA in the email a about 3 minutes after I submitted my application. However, I did manage to mix up my last and first names because I'm as dumb as a rock. I feel terrible for that. They say there's a penalty for that but I guess I'll have to deal with it once I'm in Sri Lanka 😪

hi this was very helpful i was trying with visa and didnt know needed a mastercard. One quick question for you. Are you allowed to apply for a new ETA ( Already applied and have one) so that you can go into sri lanka longer basically as an extension. Since I think you need to be in sri lanka to apply for an extension or am i wrong ?
So glad I could help. Yes, for some crazy reason most European visa-cards are rejected.... A bit annoying! No Eta, is only approval to arrive. And you can then stay 30 days in Sri Lanka. After arriving you can apply to extend: eservices.immigration.gov.lk/vs/home.php (or visit immigration office in Colombo)

Hi I used a standard Visa card with no problems! I have just looked at this ETA and still am slightly miffed as I’m not sure if it is the full approved ETA air an acknowledgment of payment?

This question has 2 answers: Yes. in theory definitely there is the rule that you should be able to show a return ticket out of Sri Lanka. So that is the only thing i can recommend here.. A lot of people will tell- that they never been checked and have extended visa and booked flight ticket later...

You have to first book the flight - and at least 1 night at any hotel -- then apply for the visa. Actually I always apply 1 by 1 as an individual the times I have arranged visa for family. Because more times I have faced issue with the group booking. Hope this is helpful -- When are you travelling to Sri LAnka ?

Officially you have to. I never been asked myself, flying 30+ times to Sri Lanka, however some people are being asked, so better having everything in order with a return flight ticket. Dor funds it is enough to show that you have a credit card.
Hi Another question. From 1st January all pax, including fully vaccinated, will need to purchase the "local covid insurance" prior to arrival in SL. I have no worries in purchasing it as I see it as a benefit. However, what needs some clarification is the cost of the insurance and how one pays for it. It is for 30 days but does not say what happens if we extend visa. Hopefully you may have some idea or how to find out. Thank you Peter
Then you need to go to an Indian restaurant.. Sri Lankan and Indian food is very different ( And SL best 😋🤣) But in the capital plus also some tourist places like Hikkaduwa they have Indian (plus Italian +++) restaurants also in addition to Sri Lankan 👍

In and around Hikkaduwa are there places, other than tourist restaurants, that do the street type food? Really want to enjoy the food locals would eat. Rottu, hoppers etc. Are there many markets too or are they mainly in Galle? Is it possible and easy to take the train to Galle? Thanks
Yes 😊😊 Lot of Roti Shops, and places to buy local Rice&Curry , hoppers, string hoppers, rolls waddi and all kind of "short-eats" in and around HIkkaduwa. SriLankans also love to take take-away especially for dinner/night meal --- so you will find a good selection. Thank you for uploading this video. It is informative and helped me tremendously. I used a Mastercard to pay for ETA. I got my SL visa approved in a matter of hours by checking "status". However, I did not get any email from (ETA) . My question is regarding covid insurance from People's insurance for $12. I paid and have a reference number but did not get any email from People's Insurance. I checked my spam folders as well. Will the reference number be sufficient? I have sent them an email but no response. I would appreciate to hear your thoughts on how to proceed. Thanks in advance!

Hello - and thank you for the feedback 😊 In the visa application they ask for flight number - that is normally the order that people first buy air tickets, then later soon before travel apply for ETA. But you can do it the other way around like you are describing as well. No problem. But why are you concerned about not being approved the ETA for visa? What is your country?

Hey, my friend tried this website out. But it looks shady. He got a mail with the textformating within the link: “span style=“font-weight: bold; font-size: 10pt;”. Which is something weird for an official site/mail. It also mentions “in case of any inconsistency in the above mentioned particles you are requested to pay again at the port of entry to obtain a fresh ETA.” Plus he didn’t receive any attachment.

No problem, Peter. Cash is King here in HIkkaduwa 😊 Only the larger hotels accept credit card for payment, and it most normal to use the local currency Rupees - LKR... You can withdraw from ATM or exchange from USD/EUR..

You applied on the official page? Then if the status said approved, it should be electronically attached to your passport, no need to bring any confirmation 😊👍

get money from ATM is no problem, but only larger hotels accept card payments, and very few shops & restaurants here in Hikkaduwa... So cash is always needed 👍

If you applied in the official web page - (given in the video description) everything is probably ok. Just go to the page -- then choose "CHECK STATUS". It will most likely show ass approved if money has been deducted.

However --NORMALLY December is a really good time to visit Sri Lanka. You will get some rain (it rains some all year in Sri Lanka - that´s why it is so GREEN🌴 mut mainly at night and late evenings. December to March is the Best season in the south of Sri Lanka - like Hikkaduwa.

Sorry for the late reply ☺️ This is a bit tricky... As most cases you could be fine.. however if you get fined for overstay it will cost more than to get an extension.. So I am not sure what I would advice. It is a bit up to the mood of the controller at airport...

What flight number do I fill in? If I fill in the last, they see that the last flight departs from India (not Brussels), is that a problem?
I would not worry about that. The information about flight number is not so important after my experience, people have filled out lots of different numbers without any issues. - I would fill out the flight number of the last plane on your route (for you from India) Your passport will anyway show your are from the Netherlands. Yes you can also get visa on arrival. It costs a bit more, and you might need to wait in line for a while -- that is why I recommend to fix it online before your travel
Hi I have a question. In the month of May I want to book a tour in Sri Lanka and I am not vaccinated. The measures have been relaxed as of April 20 for unvaccinated people and I do not have to stay in a designated hotel for this. Hello - and welcome to Sri Lanka🧡🇱🇰 Yes, the rules have been relaxed, also for non vaccinated now. No need for special hotels or PCR testing. Just apply for the visa online and fill in one of the hotels you will be staying at + get the Covid Insurance (in addition to your normal travel insurance) .

Sorry I can not help in specific visa cases. You need to contact immigration or an Embassy in your country to hear what is wrong with your application.

You can enter the flight Number of the flight you are arriving in CLB AirPort with. Departure from your country. The web site is so confusing that I am sure people add all kind of different in these forms, and it does not affect the visa approval. They will ask you at immigration if anything is unclear. Tuktuk is a very affordable way of transport 🛺 Here in Hikkaduwa, they do not use Taxi-meter but - fixed rates. F.ek from our hotel to Main town - (about 2 km is LKR 200 max). In places like Colombo you can expect them to put on the meter - and the rates there are lower.
I don't think they've set this up yet. I just checked the online Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization system and I only see listings for tourist visas for up to 90 days.
Tried over 5 times. Keeps rejecting my visa debit and MasterCard....very frustrating. If they want tourists to come, they need to have a better software system.
Oh, this is so annoying🥲 so wish they could remove the whole visa-process. Only thing I can suggest is to try another browser + use mastercard + desktop = highest chance of success. Or else there also is the option of Visa on Arrival.

I feel terrible for that. They say there's a penalty for that but I guess I'll have to deal with it once I'm in Sri Lanka 😪

hi this was very helpful i was trying with visa and didnt know needed a mastercard. One quick question for you. Are you allowed to apply for a new ETA ( Already applied and have one) so that you can go into sri lanka longer basically as an extension. Since I think you need to be in sri lanka to apply for an extension or am i wrong ?
So glad I could help. Yes, for some crazy reason most European visa-cards are rejected.... A bit annoying! No Eta, is only approval to arrive. And you can then stay 30 days in Sri Lanka. After arriving you can apply to extend: eservices.immigration.gov.lk/vs/home.php (or visit immigration office in Colombo)

This question has 2 answers: Yes. in theory definitely there is the rule that you should be able to show a return ticket out of Sri Lanka. So that is the only thing i can recommend here.. A lot of people will tell- that they never been checked and have extended visa and booked flight ticket later...

You have to first book the flight - and at least 1 night at any hotel -- then apply for the visa. Actually I always apply 1 by 1 as an individual the times I have arranged visa for family. Because more times I have faced issue with the group booking. Hope this is helpful -- When are you travelling to Sri LAnka ?

Officially you have to. I never been asked myself, flying 30+ times to Sri Lanka, however some people are being asked, so better having everything in order with a return flight ticket. Dor funds it is enough to show that you have a credit card.

From 1st January all pax, including fully vaccinated, will need to purchase the "local covid insurance" prior to arrival in SL. I have no worries in purchasing it as I see it as a benefit.
However, what needs some clarification is the cost of the insurance and how one pays for it.
It is for 30 days but does not say what happens if we extend visa.
Hopefully you may have some idea or how to find out.

Then you need to go to an Indian restaurant.. Sri Lankan and Indian food is very different ( And SL best 😋🤣) But in the capital plus also some tourist places like Hikkaduwa they have Indian (plus Italian +++) restaurants also in addition to Sri Lankan 👍

As far as I know, you get transit visa at arrival.. But please double check with the SL Embassy in India...

Yes 😊😊 Lot of Roti Shops, and places to buy local Rice&Curry , hoppers, string hoppers, rolls waddi and all kind of "short-eats" in and around HIkkaduwa. SriLankans also love to take take-away especially for dinner/night meal --- so you will find a good selection. Look for small - simple places - without seating or simple plastic chairs seating.. 👍👍 I will make a video about it later! Thank you for commenting!

It might be difficult to find a forum member who has stayed at a 25GBP per night, including breakfast for two.
And, even if you do find good, recent, reviews for homestays, do keep in mind that the prices might be outdated by the end of the month.

Can you tell us what kind of plugs we need when we use electric cables to charge something.
Most hotels will have adapters or sockets you can use... But this is it: "For Sri Lanka there are two associated plug types, types D and G. Plug type D is the plug which has three round pins in a triangular patternand plug type G is the plug which has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern. Sri Lanka operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz."

However, I did not get any email from (ETA) . My question is regarding covid insurance from People's insurance for $12. I paid and have a reference number but did not get any email from People's Insurance. I checked my spam folders as well. Will the reference number be sufficient? I have sent them an email but no response. I would appreciate to hear your thoughts on how to proceed. Thanks in advance!

Hello - and thank you for the feedback 😊 In the visa application they ask for flight number - that is normally the order that people first buy air tickets, then later soon before travel apply for ETA. But you can do it the other way around like you are describing as well. No problem. But why are you concerned about not being approved the ETA for visa? What is your country?

Hey, my friend tried this website out. But it looks shady. He got a mail with the textformating within the link: “span style=“font-weight: bold; font-size: 10pt;”. Which is something weird for an official site/mail.
It also mentions “in case of any inconsistency in the above mentioned particles you are requested to pay again at the port of entry to obtain a fresh ETA.”

No problem, Peter. Cash is King here in HIkkaduwa 😊 Only the larger hotels accept credit card for payment, and it most normal to use the local currency Rupees - LKR... You can withdraw from ATM or exchange from USD/EUR..

If you applied in the official web page - (given in the video description) everything is probably ok. Just go to the page -- then choose "CHECK STATUS". It will most likely show ass approved if money has been deducted.

Hello Ahmed. The Visa is electronically attached to your passport, so no need to do anything. You can bring a printed version of the Visa approval if yo want, but should not be need for this...

Sorry for the late reply ☺️ This is a bit tricky... As most cases you could be fine.. however if you get fined for overstay it will cost more than to get an extension.. So I am not sure what I would advice. It is a bit up to the mood of the controller at airport...

Hi, I am scared to fill in the wrong things, so I have a question: I am from the Netherlands and I am flying from Brussels airport to Colombo, however I have two transits so I have three flight numbers. What flight number do I fill in? If I fill in the last, they see that the last flight departs from India (not Brussels), is that a problem?
I would not worry about that. The information about flight number is not so important after my experience, people have filled out lots of different numbers without any issues.
- I would fill out the flight number of the last plane on your route (for you from India) Your passport will anyway show your are from the Netherlands.

Yes you can also get visa on arrival. It costs a bit more, and you might need to wait in line for a while -- that is why I recommend to fix it online before your travel
Hi I have a question. In the month of May I want to book a tour in Sri Lanka and I am not vaccinated. The measures have been relaxed as of April 20 for unvaccinated people and I do not have to stay in a designated hotel for this. Hello - and welcome to Sri Lanka🧡🇱🇰 Yes, the rules have been relaxed, also for non vaccinated now. No need for special hotels or PCR testing. Just apply for the visa online and fill in one of the hotels you will be staying at + get the Covid Insurance (in addition to your normal travel insurance) .

You can enter the flight Number of the flight you are arriving in CLB AirPort with. Departure from your country. The web site is so confusing that I am sure people add all kind of different in these forms, and it does not affect the visa approval. They will ask you at immigration if anything is unclear. No problem to travel with 2 year old without vaccination. You fill out Visa application for her/him as well.

Here in Hikkaduwa, they do not use Taxi-meter but - fixed rates. F.ek from our hotel to Main town - (about 2 km is LKR 200 max). In places like Colombo you can expect them to put on the meter - and the rates there are lower.

I don't think they've set this up yet. I just checked the online Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization system and I only see listings for tourist visas for up to 90 days.
No such visa available, that I know about..... You can get ETA approval, then 1 month visa and you can extend after arriving Sri Lanka.

Tried over 5 times. Keeps rejecting my visa debit and MasterCard....very frustrating. If they want tourists to come, they need to have a better software system.
Oh, this is so annoying🥲 so wish they could remove the whole visa-process. Only thing I can suggest is to try another browser + use mastercard + desktop = highest chance of success. Or else there also is the option of Visa on Arrival.

Why you can't pay with visa card?
Thank you for watching... Foreign Visa card are very likely to be rejected. I don´t know why, some error in the payment solution on the web site🤔. MasterCard for some reason are more likely to have the payment go through.
