What I like is that no root ball scoring was done. 👍
Scoring the root ball is not only unnecessary, it can lead to inhibiting the over health of the tree.
I absolutely love it I have three of them black with red flowers black with pink flowers and my favorite black with white flowers if I had another place to put one of these I would planted they are extremely beautiful I put it right up there with the Rose of Sharon it's just make sure house look like a Wonderland
In the spring, I like to use a 10-10-10 fertilizer when putting in new crapes, and then again in summer. Water in well and deep, and the plant is happy. If planting in the fall I do 2-inches of mulch to protect from frost but I don't fertilize until the first buds break.

thanks ! 👍👍 Oh I fill my hole with water first . Let it soak in . Drop some fresh soil and a lil fertilizer in the hole . Then I Loosen the roots .. plant and drop original soil to fill the open area and water again . So far so good .

Just love this crape myrtle got it yesterday plan on planting it in my purple Garden mixed with dark purple Arabian lilac, purple and green pedaled zinnias, purple bottle brush, Russian sage. Will be a wonderful mix between my dark purple Japanese smoke trees, and dark purple butterfly bushes. Thank you for this little treasure you created. Now if I can get my hands on a dark purple leafed red bud.

Hello, thank you for a wonderfully informative video. Would you have any idea what I can use as a substitute for the expanded shale? I love the idea of expanded shale but in Southern Illinois I have no access to it without paying a fortune for it. I need to break up my heavy clay soil. What else could I substitute for the expanded shale? Thank you again for such a great video.

I just purchased an Enduriing Summer Lavender crape myrtle. The leaves are dark like the black diamond variety. Is this a black diamond? It says 4-5’tall for growth. It is blooming now and s lovely. I watched your video abut how to plant. I plan on getting it planted this evening. Very informative videos!! Thank you!
I have had mine planted for at least 5 years but I dont see too much progress. The limbs are still extremely thin and the tree is probably 5 feet tall and this year it hasnt flowered. I live in zone 9. I dont know what to do to help it bloom and hit puberty.
Will this grow in a pot indoors by a window?
Good morning Kyle, yes, you may see limited flowers depending on how much sun it receives. We recommend the brightest location possible with at least 6 hours of direct full sun each day.
I just got the Best Red. How close to the house is it ok to plant it?

Question, received my black crape Myrtle from your nursery. It came only 14ins tall, very slim no flowers yet. I am afraid it won’t survive, I planted this in my backyard full sunlight. Is there anything I need more to do???
If you water daily until established (a few months or a season at least, this will help. If you ordered online you can also contact us at info@jberrynursery and we do have warranty's on our plants so you can get a replacement sent to you if you email images and explain what is going on. We want to help this plant be successful for you as well, but if the need be we will get you a beautiful successful blooming plant!

I have a diamond crape myrtle. First year in a pot. Second year planted. I live in Ohio and need to prune it back. When is the best time to do this. I really love this bush so much but was told that it would not survive. I have been lucky so far. Any recommendations on cutting it back?
My last one died during freezing temps. It had done well that year up until winter. Is that common? I just purchased another one and want to plant it this weekend on my husbands bday/fathers day.

I just found mine at Home Depot and I know they sell this Nationwide you can personally ask for them to order it. Now is the time of year you can purchase them
I found mine at Tractor Supply for about half the price of the ones sold at Home Depot.

what kind of fertizter Did you use?
We recommend an even, 10-10-10 slow release, granular plant food and using as directed. You can also use a specific flowering tree or shrub mix as directed. Please just let us know any additional information that would be of help.
What's the shale do for the soil?
Hi John! Shale helps loosen heavier soils so that they are lighter and easier to work with as well as helping to aerate the soil.
Why no details on fertilizer?
Hello-we do not promote a specific brand-we do recommend a slow release granular format and to apply as directed on the packaging.
