    I realized yesterday that I don't feel comfortable buying a knife unless you've given it the full good, great, bad and ugly. Your reviews are just so informative, you touch on every point I want to hear about, and I love that I can trust your honesty and integrity as a gear reviewer. Thanks for all you do, Nick! I'm gonna go buy one of these now hehe

      Completely agree. Any time I'm interested in a new knife, first thing I do is see if Nick has reviewed it. And I'm rarely disappointed.

    • @MrGeerbear
      @MrGeerbear 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nick's reviews are great. Just remember he is a urban light use carrier. His preferences reflect that. If you want a knife for hard use, that is outside Nick's wheel house and you may want to seek out other reviewers.

    • @nataliewitkowski913
      @nataliewitkowski913 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrGeerbear that's why I enjoy his reviews, I think I'm a bit tougher on my knives than Nick is to his, but that's just occupational hazard- I'd say im sitting comfortably and medium use. The only time I need anything sturdier is when I'm camping with my family and in laws, for which I have a whole other set of knives and tools to drool over >_>

    Not only are those liners skeletonized, they're also nested into the handle to cut down on the thickness. A real bargain for less than $40 or $50.

    It's a great knife and been my EDC for the past 3 years. The flipper isn't great though and if I try to fidget with it it tends to beat up my finger because of the jimping on the flipper. I have also found that my finger tends to run along the scales behind the flipper when I open it and they are a little sharp. I have never been cut by it but it is not the most comfortable. I recently replaced it with a rat 2 partially to try a smaller knife and partially to try only having a thumb stud instead. Had it for a few days and so far it's been great. Both great knives and I can definitely recommend them both.

    Hey Nickius Shabazzius, I just got a new D2 Cutjack and it had no loctite at all, which made the pivot screw come a bit undone before I took it apart and removed the over oiling and "fixed" it with a little less oil and some blue medium loc tite.

    Wanting to buyers, I bought this knife after watching this review and it came with an action that would not flip. When I tried to disassemble the knife to figure out what was wrong, the screws stripped out immediately. These are not very consistent from Steel Will, and I just wanted to put that knowledge out there. I wish you better luck than me!

    Great review as always.. I don't like flippers but this knife is so good I bought two, one black and one OD... The QC is excellent.. I've seen and handled several and they are all the same.. Excellent..
    I'm much more careful with screws now.. If a reasonable preassure doesn't budge, I'll break out my Ex's hairdryer.. It gets hot as hell in a minute and loosens up any lock tite fairly quick..
    Steel Will as a company has really impressed me. I have the Gekko 1500 in micarta.. The quality is excellent... It's a big heavy (3.9" blade, 6.4oz) knife but carries OK... I usually don't like bigger knives and should of got the Mini (3.5").. But, the 1500 is still great.. I haven't shut up about it anytime I can comment..

    Two bad things I find about this knife after having it for 1 week, everything else is great, like some of you have mentioned, that thumb stud is hella hard to get used to and painful to get used to, maybe the smaller version will be better, but this blades is quite heavy so lots of pressure needs to be applied to open, and lastly it’s a bit big and heavy but that’s just me maybe I’ll buy the smaller version, other that it’s great

  • @yankee2yankee216
    @yankee2yankee216 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, unless it can be altered easily, the pocket clip on sharp texture could be a deal breaker. I would rather not pay a $60 pair of pants every few weeks for the privilege of carrying this knife! There are so many that are better in this way! For $40, I might get the D2 version, but I’m not sure I would spend $140 for the M390 version… Update: I have discovered there is a G-10 version, available on the M390 knives, which is smoother and presumably easier on pockets.

      Ian Woodland My personal experience with a Buck Vantage Pro flipper wasn't good at all. So bad that I returned the knife and got my money back. Flipping action was weak, knife was dull out of the box, and there was blade play. Just a hot mess. I have the Rat 1 in aus 8 and in D2 with carbon fiber laminate. Both are great value knives. Yesterday I was finally able to order the cutjack 3.5 in D2 from Knifecenter. Been waiting months for retailers to get new stock. Many positive reviews of the cutjack so looking forward to getting it in hand.

      I bought one from BladeHQ about 2 months ago, no thread-locker on mine. My only minor complaint is it was slightly 'tight' on the flipper, but loosened up in a day or two with use. Beyond this I freakin' love this knife in every way. For the price, I've never had one that was more solid and great value.

Not sure VG10 is that much better than D2 and the Cutjack has full liners while the Spyderco does not... Of course... You can't complain about the Spyderco weighing in at 2.5oz... Tit for tat I guess...
