if you were explaining the ABC's to a child would you show things that started with "A" "B" and "C" but never show the characters of the ABC's?.....I mean im not like mad or anything im just pointing it out..
Sure. that's understandable. but as an adult, if you know that you need visuals to help you understand, is it so hard to search them out rather than have it handed to you like a child would require??
Honestly, I've almost always had science teachers that don't really explain/teach the material. They usually just tell us what we're supposed to be learning, give us a busy-work activity, and expect us to learn the material at home in time for the next test. Finally, about a quarter of the way into my freshman bio class, I discovered Hank's videos and they've been a total life-saver! Thanks to these videos I have excelled in my science courses despite having lazy teachers and am much better prepared for a future career in science. Thank you for making me love science!
literally just watched his insta "official remission" video and opened this I think I might cry I loved CC so much growing up and love him as a creator so much now
This video is helping me for my AP Bio presentation, where I need to present all four cycles and teach my whole class about it. Right when I started the video it kept stopping and reloading during the part he was saying, "There's nothing quite so terrible as needing something right in front of you, but not being able to get it." Coincidence at its finest. Anyways, thank you very much Hank, you really helped my understanding!
thanks Hank, once again you've saved my project (and also aided my procrastination level xD) your videos are so concise, and yet mange to effectively condense a month of teachings into a few minutes.
When 5 minutes on crash course gives you a clearer understanding of the nitrogen cycle than an hour of bio lesson at school Thanks for saving a life, crash course
I had a 200 term word to definition matching assignment for my environmental science class over break. One of the definitions was "a cycle with no atmospheric component" and I was completely stumped. God bless crash course.
I was procrastinating by watching mental floss, and dreading learning about the nitrogen cycle. I was pleasantly surprised with how interesting and helpful you were. How wonderfully ironic that it's two brothers that are the devil and angel on my shoulder.
I love how excited he seems about everything! It really helps me to stay focused on what's being said. The best guy I found for Economics on TH-cam literally puts me to sleep. Hank's a life saver, thanks!
Hey Mr. Green I was wondering, I'm a freshman in High School AP Enviornmental Science. Could you make a playlist to help APES students study off of your courses for the AP exam? That would be very helpful ;)
You guys are life-savers, seriously Bio is not an easy subject for me and you guys make it actually understandable! Thank you lots, the A's that I have gotten are because of you guys.
I started cracking up by of the way he said - "we make our own amino acids, then we can pee.. or poop it out... or... die" I love his straight-faced sense of humor
Thank you! This summary is very powerful, and saved me an hour of textbook reading. I appreciate the enthusiastic and tasteful real world applications of this theory.
I'm currently doing A level biology and I struggle with a couple of learning difficulties so I usually have to constantly learn something over and over until it sticks but with your videos you make it so clear to understand how science works, you've helped me a lot over the year so thank you! I'll probably need you when I go uni too!
I really love these vids. Honestly never cared much about ecology, nor did I think I would find it interesting but I'm enjoying this series quite a bit.
This is so entertaining and educating. It's way more fun than science class at school and here I actually learn so much in one video that just as a comparison, at school it would be a month worth of boring classes from textbook. Thanks!! :)
Huge thank you to everyone involved in this! Amber, Peter, Michael, Nick, Jesslyn, Hank, Blake, and Brandon, youève all done a wonderful job making this entertaining and informative!
in portuguese we also use "legumes" as a general term for "vegetables". for most people (at least here in Brazil), legumes are corn, carrots, potatoes and anything else that is vegetable appart from rice, beans (a real legume) or a leaf (those are "verduras").
Hank, it's thanks to you and John that I've passed my science and history classes. Thank you so much for my great sophomore year! My Biology and World History finals await next week, but thanks to you I'm pretty confident. :)
I just finished my study session for a half an hour break with nothing to do. And this shows up, right on the dot. Huzzah! Boredom held off for a bit. :D
Absolutely awesome! Seriously, you make science so much easier than any of the people that have ever taught to my class in person. Not to mention, the colorful graphics and humor lighten the mood. Thanks for saving my grade. :)
i just played trivia last night and many of the questions in a round about the human body i got because i watched crashcourse biology, so............ thanks!
For the nitrogen cycle, can plants (not only legumes but also other plants) use ammonia to grow? Cause I learned that the n-fixing bacteria converts N2 into ammonium and then other bacterias convert that into nitrites then nitrates through further nitrification and that is when the plants can use the nitrates in order to grow.
I've been an avid follower of SciShow and its extensions so imagine my pleasant surprise when I found out my biology professor decided to use several of these CrashCourse videos as part of her class. TH-cam and Science. Beautiful.
It is also worth mentioning that there are newly discovered fluxes in the nitrogen cycle. One is called Anammox where bacteria combine ammonium and nitrate together to form diatomic nitrogen that goes back into the atmosphere. DNRA (Desimilatory Nitrate Reduction to Ammonium) is another process where bacteria converts the nitrates into ammonium. DNRA recycles the nitrogen in the soil whereas denitrification releases the nitrogen into the atmosphere. Anammox can combine the the ammonium with the nitrates and releases the nitrogen into the atmosphere. Thus, there are four pathways after nitrification: Assimilation (plant uptake), denitrification, DNRA, and anammox.
nitrogen is an element, which means that it has a specific identity determined by its number of protons. if you changed that number, by adding or removing protons, it'd stop being N and become something else. when you triple-bind two atoms of N you get one N2 molecule (called 'molecular nitrogen'). The common, vernacular name for N2 is 'nitrogen gas'. It is analogous to oxygen, O, which when double-bound to another O becomes O2 ('molecular oxygen', vernacular 'oxygen gas' or simply 'oxygen').
Honestly, crash courses are so amazing! Not only are they super educational and informative, but they're also very entertaining! Keep up the good work!
Hank, when you advertise another video (like the Fritz Haber one here), you should put the link in the doobleydoo and/or show the thing again at the end of the video!
Hank, you are like my hero, and I would love to hang out with out, but it is far too cold in Montana most of the year, so alas, unless you came to NH for a bit, I will never get to shake your hand. Can I shake it over the internet?
My only complaint with this video is that there is no image of the cycle. it really helps to see the cycles. viewers could pause and examine them too.
look up one yourself...
i know you could, and i have but i mean, how hard is it to include...they have a graphic animation team....
Abyssal Nocturnus but how hard is it to look one up...?
if you were explaining the ABC's to a child would you show things that started with "A" "B" and "C" but never show the characters of the ABC's?.....I mean im not like mad or anything im just pointing it out..

I totally agree !
Mrs. Barr
Lazy teachers suck
I wish hank was my science teacher.
You bet!

I will soon have a test on this, but i am trying to understand this right now, because my teacher does not know how to teach at all
Armyguywizerdo16 i know ur feel bro :'), RESPECT for brothers struggling at school cuz of bad teachers.
I do!!!!

Bless you for making these videos. This is what I call a life saving channel...
This video did a better job of explaining this concept than the class I'm actually paying for.
i truly wonder how many grades and students this channel have saved. Im kinda "thank you for my degree as a Biologist".
Love Hank's work so much! speed 0.5 = intoxicated Hank. have fun!
bill nye of 21st century
Correct
+BetaBotReborn Agreed.
HANK HANK HANK *hank green the science fiend*
yes
BetaBotReborn why does hank always sound so sarcastic tho? like "herbivores eat plants" *smirks*
thanks a lot (: I often prefer watching your videos than reading the textbook because you do a better job at explaining
Ugh the nitrogen cycle is so complicated! Couldn't never have understood it if it hadn't been for Crash Course. Absolute lifesaver
bless this channel
You said more than my textbook has written.
I have finals tomorrow. You saved me. Thank you.
I love you.
Thank you Crash Course! This helped me a lot before my biology exam!

GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL, HANK GREEN
thank you so much! this video taught me way more in 10 minutes than my bio teacher has in 2 months
thanks Hank, once again you've saved my project (and also aided my procrastination level xD) your videos are so concise, and yet mange to effectively condense a month of teachings into a few minutes.

Hank I have an exam tomorrow on this. Thank you again for this past 5 years. Saving the day
I was procrastinating by watching mental floss, and dreading learning about the nitrogen cycle. I was pleasantly surprised with how interesting and helpful you were. How wonderfully ironic that it's two brothers that are the devil and angel on my shoulder.
You're on TH-cam, never alone! :D
Happy New Year!
I love how excited he seems about everything! It really helps me to stay focused on what's being said. The best guy I found for Economics on TH-cam literally puts me to sleep. Hank's a life saver, thanks!
The Years is only a few hours old and I'm already learning. What a great way to start the new year.
Oh also Happy New Year Hank and John.
Hey Mr. Green I was wondering, I'm a freshman in High School AP Enviornmental Science. Could you make a playlist to help APES students study off of your courses for the AP exam? That would be very helpful ;)
Never thought I would use crash course in sophomore year of college
You guys are life-savers, seriously Bio is not an easy subject for me and you guys make it actually understandable! Thank you lots, the A's that I have gotten are because of you guys.

"we pee or poop...or die."
well, that took a grave turn
wow i love watching this six days before the AP exam
he explains things in a way that instantly gets absorbed in my head... he is good...VERY GOOD!!!
I literally just watched this in class today. Thanks -.-
Thank you! This summary is very powerful, and saved me an hour of textbook reading. I appreciate the enthusiastic and tasteful real world applications of this theory.

Your videos have always been awesome, but now they're also getting me an A in Honors Biology! Thanks, Hank! :)
Thankyou so much. My exam is in ten days, you have no idea how much I needed this
I HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW AND YOU, SIR, ARE MY SAVIOUR
r u breathing while talking? ....crazy
Thats why there are breaks in the video probably ahaha
I really love these vids. Honestly never cared much about ecology, nor did I think I would find it interesting but I'm enjoying this series quite a bit.

Anyone else spending New Years alone on TH-cam?
*excited face* There it is I can feel it in the air (arms flapping)
Using CrashCourse to study for the AP Environmental AP exam tomorrow!! Thanks Hank!
I love your videos, it so clarity whith you explication , im sorry for may bad inglish XD
I'm studying for the AP exam and all I'm seeing is acts, laws and treaties... a Crash Course would be helpful! :)
Man this dude talks really quick
That's why it's called crash course
Not Really
LMAO right? i think its also the editing tho, they're like omg!!! half a second without him talking!!!! cut that frame out!
I don't how is that possible but you are the only who doesn't make me sleep on this topics
Am I the only one that reads the text book in their head... in Hank's voice and dialect? Just seems to make more sense for some reason.
Along with bacteria and symbionts, kudos to the one who created this entire intricately complicated process!!!
I like that I ended the year and started the next looking at Hank's face. It is telling of me.
good work.happy new year hank wish you and john green all the best for 2013 and all the other ppl subscribed to ur many channels
I have an Exam in an hour and these videos are saving me 😂
Huge thank you to everyone involved in this! Amber, Peter, Michael, Nick, Jesslyn, Hank, Blake, and Brandon, youève all done a wonderful job making this entertaining and informative!

First video of the new year! Solid start.
If you burn you garden (after the harvest) will you add more carbon, phosphorous, and nitrogen into the soil for the next year?
Hank, it's thanks to you and John that I've passed my science and history classes. Thank you so much for my great sophomore year! My Biology and World History finals await next week, but thanks to you I'm pretty confident. :)

Bless this man for helping me pass mid-terms
I wish you were my science teacher. I picked up more in ten minute here than a month in school
Thank you! You helped me study for finals!
Great video! Myccohrizae also make phosphorous available, and they are awesome...don't forget them!
this channel does exactly what it says crash course. Saving me from staying up all night studying the phosphorus cycle
I came here for the phosphorous cycle spiel but the first 5 mins is valuable information.
I've been enjoying crashcourse ecology so much! Just wanted to say thanks, it must take a lot of work.
7:08 It's a cycle!! Nice job editing Nick Jenkins, Love it!!
thank you for making this stuff not boring at all anymore
Awesome video!
Absolutely awesome! Seriously, you make science so much easier than any of the people that have ever taught to my class in person. Not to mention, the colorful graphics and humor lighten the mood. Thanks for saving my grade. :)
Thank God for Hank and CrashCourse!
I got distracted for about 5 minutes from pressing 2 over and over and watching Hank flap his arms and say "feel it right now"
i just played trivia last night and many of the questions in a round about the human body i got because i watched crashcourse biology, so............ thanks!

that picture with the many holes just raised up my TRIPPOPHOBIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you!! exams are comming up and it is possible that you just saved me
Happy New Year, Nerdfighteria!

You are saving my A level grades for environmental studies
I'm doing this for extra credit in science and this is entertaining and very informational..!
"Nitrogen is awesome and everywhere... and elusive and deserving of your respect."
That summarizes my love life.
I find my self sitting here being ridiculously excited by all the neat stuff that bacteria is doing all around me and within me right now!
As a marine reef aquarist, I am extra fascinated by this episode.

writing a paper on this! Thanks this helped a lot!

I learned more watching this set of videos then in my entire year of life science.
I'm glad I knew all about the Nitrogen cycle due to keeping aquariums for most of my adult life! I'm not so dumb after all!
I recommend that you viewers have images of the two cycles on different tabs so you can follow along.
