The best discovery l did for my Smarts (have 3 at the moment!) was inflate the tires around 30PSl and it made the car glued itself to the road! More stable than ever and can safely speed now on the motorway.
How on earth can anybody give this video a thumbs down lol, i'm about to buy one of these and have learnt a few things here i did'nt know. Good job mate.
Here in Hawaii, our 2009 Brabus Cabriolet, left hand drive, you can put the car back into automatic mode by pulling in the RIGHT (up gear) shifter paddle for 2 seconds. The shifter does not have a button, but has a slot at the Drive position that goes side to side, for manual shifting or automatic. You can also push the shifter over to the automatic side at any time as well. If it already in that position, just move it to manual then back to automatic. ....To drive in manual you can shift over the gear selector or just tap the LEFT (down gear), paddle on the steering. Of course it WILL drop you a gear in doing it that way. While in manual mode, if you rev it too high, it will shift itself automatically anyway to the next gear. ....Our model comes with Park, and Reverse. Plus a hill holder function. NOTE: there is a "hill holder" type of brake, that will hold the car still on a steep hill, giving you time to get your foot off the brake and onto the gas pedal. It can't be turned off, it is an automatically performed feature from the Parked position, as far as I can tell. You can tell if it is working, if you park on a slight incline, put it in reverse and notice it is a "stiff" start, because the hill holder brake has to let go. ......The windshield wipers control knob was a mystery at first. All the way down, is intermittent. Up one is STOP, going up the rest of the notches are different speeds. It is a pain to get it into the 2nd - Stop position while driving. ....Turning on the radio was another mystery, but just pushing against the SELECT button will turn it on or off. ....The tachometer and the Clock do not seem to be lighted for use at night. Note: I love this car. This particular model is a ROCKET and has the Mitsubishi turbo'd motor. I pass cars on the freeways just right and left. Gets about 32 miles a gallon the way I drive it. It comes with SEVENTEEN inch wheels, not going to fall in a pothole, but the ride is some kind of STIFF.
Also for the electric smarts, 0% battery is closer to 10%, it says 0 because that's where the "safe-zone" ends, but in reality, you still have another 5-10 miles or so, but the car will heavily limit it's speed to about 20-25mph depending on whether its EU/UK/US spec.
Hi Qashqai, most people are frustrated by the 'smart' buttons, for the windows, display clock and trip. The windows button reacts differently to firm pressure: auto open/close, held down: manual open close, or a short click: to stop. The instrument display of time, press left button to cycle through "trip", "outside temperature", "time", hold down left button for 5 seconds, until the seperator blinks ":", then right jab for one minute, hold down for 5 minute increases, the left button to reverse direction, but don't leave it for more than 5 seconds, or it stops adjusting. But you can start again... When in "R" for parking, the warning triangle is a reminder to use the brake and select "N", before trying to start. Mine rolled down a slope when on handbrake only! The ignition key should not be held in start position, just turn it and release, (it's "smart", it knows you want to start the engine).
Many thanks , I've just bought 2010 451 passion Cabriolet - non turbo , but with Eco mode that enables stop-start - more of a pain to be honest - especially as it defaults to be on when starting and you have to remember to turn it off . It would be great if anyone knows if that can be changed to be off as default. The Park feature is very useful tip.
@@124kpr I one day accedently removed the "ECO Button" because i pushed it in to hard. I put a piece of plastic under the "ECO" side of the switch so that the "OFF" side is always pressed in.
I recently bought a Smart ForTwo Passion Cabriole with a convertable roof. I wonder has anyone had a very loud wind noise at the front of the roof on the passenger side. All the rubber seems to be ok with not cracks. Any help or tips will be much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for video, I have 451 2012-Passion Cabrio and looking for the best air filter to get a couple of extra hp and more sporty sound with minimal investment. If you noticed any info about it, would be great. Thanks again for trick. I did not know to increasing loading space folding rear roof to the front side with one lever from the LH side.
I always wondered why there wouldn't be a park gear! Also, when I start the ignition maybe 10% of the time the gears grind, as if it's not fully in neutral :(
My main headlamps gone & I can’t seem to loosen the clip on the housing, I was following another you tuber to do it but he wasn’t as precise as you, any chance of doing a ‘how to replace bulb’ video before I make a fool of myself & take car to garage lol!
yes, checked my fob by having lights blinking when locking car. yes they blinked 9 times, changed my battery in my fob to a 2016 perfect, every thing works fine now
Great video. I've had 2 451 turbo models (84) with remaps and a 453 which is a much more solid car for driving and motorway's... The gearbox and driving of the 451 is temperamental. I once drove in the snow back in manual mode with the paddles and had no issues, they are fine in the snow. I would love to turn off the traction control to get more of a driving experience... They almost seem impossible to crash and slow down in corners! The 453 does not as much... Thinking of getting another one again, cheap to run, reliable, my JCW Works 210 Mini F56 has all sorts of electrical shit going on right now... And my 370z is a distant memory. Anyone reading, please buy one they are safe and sturdy once you understand them
Tell me, please. Is the cabrio noisier? Does the roof rust where it touches the fabric? Is water or moisture getting in? Are there any bad things about the convertible roof, or is it normally to buy?
I assume the microphone is for hands free driving if you hook your cell phone to the car? - I just bought a 2008 Fortwo and wondered why there was a mic. The nav sat apparently still works on my car even though I have no internet in the car. I assume it uses cell towers? I hope I can turn it Off or remove it. I don't want Big Brother knowing where I am at all times.
"Sat Nav" is satellite navigation & only listens to the Satellites to work out where it is... no internet, no cell towers required & it doesn't tell anyone where you are (unlike your mobile phone that does need to track you so it knows where to send your calls to).

This is really useful! Just picked up a second hand car and did not know how to put it into automatic mode!

Oh wow I’ve had my smart over a year and had no idea you can clip the bonnet on haha thanks ad subbed!
I had one of these for nearly 11 years, and I never knew that about the parcel shelf behind the seats.
Really good presentation, I will use reverse from now on when parking our Smart 0.8 diesel 451 because we have a steep(ish) drive as well. 👍
Couple of extra tips, you can fold down the passenger seat in these for longer items. And when you lock the car, the fuel cap also locks.

Also a fun little fact about them (not sure if you mentioned this in the previous video or not), they have a tighter turning circle than a black cab
Great tips Noah, thank you!
@@TheQashqaiGuy No problem!
Owned two smarts and thought I knew it all. Didn't know about the boot thing. Great tip
I have a manual automatic 451 (robotic) and you can turn it off at R but you cannot turn it on ,you have to switch to N.

Hi from what I've researched it can't be permanently turned off without some kind of bypass being installed by a professional.

Just got a smart car so some useful information there. Have you still got your smart car.

Hello there! What do you think of the heated seats? Are they quite toasty?
They're not bad, bit standard to be honest. Slow but too hot once on fully
So to clarify, reverse is park?
Pretty much!

Yeah the mic is for phone calls. I think you can turn the sat nav system off in the settings.

The mic is fitted behind the double din faceplate. Hence the holes on it. I know this as just removed mine.
Can you have children in the front seat? (Car seat)
