    the disappointing part is, if there is a competition in costume, someone who wears the stereotypical stuff will win, and you who dressed historically accurate, will be dubbed as "lazy" and "unprepared".

      @@itschrissspy The tricorn was not only for show off. It was a general fashion item and a pretty normal hat. Kind of the 18th century equivalent to the baseball cap. With the military it depends, but with military officers the tricorn is actually less common that the Bicorn.

      UK terms almost always make more sense than American terms. Which makes more sense: "waistcoat", "suit coat", and "overcoat", or "vest", "suit jacket", and "overcoat"? I suppose "suspenders" makes a bit more sense, but that's about it.
      Don't even get me started on "football" and "soccer"...

    • @themoderndandy713
      @themoderndandy713 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Mr-R.R. This is partially correct. In the US, the term "tuxedo" applies to the full suit, whereas "dinner jacket" applies to the off white jacket. In the UK, the terms "dinner jacket" and "dinner suit" are synonymously used to describe the full suit (with the exception of the off white dinner jacket being refered to as such).
      As a side note, in Continental Europe, the dinner suit is refered to as a "smoking". The Black Tie Guide covers these terms comprehensively.

      The simple answer is loose thread looping (sew it loosely them pull it tight loop by loop to avoid knotting) and using a two whole button or doing one diagonal on a four whole button then the other. Also use a fine needle as it's easier to tell how many layers of fabric you're catching with each stitch.

    People should read Fitzgerald's book The Great Gatsby to get a background of the time and indulge in the beautiful American pros that existed with authors of this quality.

    Den Stil find ich absolut super und ich würde mich gern auch so elegant "in diese Zeit" begeben.
    Doch leider ist es sehr schwierig passende Kleidung zu finden.
    Mit 1,94 und 125kg bleibt einem nur der "Schlägertyp mit Schiebermütze und hochgerollten Ärmeln" übrig.

    You'd be fine dressing as a newspaper boy or a flapper girl. People just want to have fun. Except this guy. Maybe if he commented on your costume you'd suggest he attend a 1930's theme party instead then continue dancing.
