- Occultist is the best class for a new starter in my opinion.

Big damage skill (Dreeg's Evil Eye) unlocks with 1 point in mastery and can be heavily buffed very early in Act 1 with several boss-drop items that have 100% drop chance. Skill scales really well and remains great all the way to endgame.
Another big damage skill (Doom Bolt) can be buffed to silly amounts of damage.
Area damage skill (Bloody Pox) is strong and useful.
Exclusive skill (Possession) provides damage absorption as well as damage buffs and 100% skill disruption protection.
Class has two pets and a generic pet-buff skill (health, damage, speed, energy regen) so can be part of a strong pet build.
Curse of Frailty is a very useful resistance reduction skill with an area effect.
Blood of Dreeg provides great buffs including a massive amount of acid/poison resistance on its 2nd node.
Occultist can be very useful as a support mastery for every other class in the game.

Hey man, just wanted to let you know your videos and tips (even the older ones) have ignited a love I never had for this game when I played for the first time last year. I know you always say you were not the first to discover most of the tips u gave. But thanks for sharing because it has overall made my time in grim dawn this time around 1000x more fun!
Thanks for the comment - same story for me, I struggled with the game for ages then followed a build (retaliation Warder before either expansion) and started learning how things work. It’s a lot more fun once you start to understand the mechanics even if getting your head around some of the concepts and the related maths seems tedious!

It's the middle of the night in the American Midwest and here I am. You uploaded this 14 minutes before I looked and found it. My character is just getting to Krieg's laboratory. I stopped because I was getting fatigued. If I'd gone on I may have gotten her killed. Will review both vids and resume tomorrow. Thanks for the fun!!!!

I started a new Occultist about a week ago. I got her to 41 before getting her killed a short time ago. I thought she could do the entire quest chain in the Steps of Torment that culminates in killing the priest that's past the door that requires the skeleton key. She did better against him than any of my other toons had, but then again she was easily 10 levels higher. She was doing over 17,XXX damage relying on Dreeg's Evil Eye. I have not gotten the Bloody Pox line yet. One thing that I did differently from you (and I did NOT intend to) is that I did not get SPIDER. I can't even tell you what I have at this time other than Rat, Wretch, and Manticore. Anyway I need to clean out my stash. I got a bunch of crap in there that other characters could make use of. I may make a new character and play her for a while. Later.

Right, I've been through that area like national debt $ number of times and never knew.
Do you have a preverence...ie 2 x bone blade (acid converted to vitality to pox) , or do you prefer to play this acid dreeg / pox build? They both look really enjoyable - also maybe I should ask becuase perhaps I am not reading it right...can the double boneblades be worked into acid? It seems not to me.
Answering each question in turn...
My personal preference is acid-converted Bloody Pox in combination with Dreeg's Evil Eye. Pox great for groups and for hit-and-run due to the infectious nature of the skill, Evil Eye very strong against single targets or tightly bunched groups. Vitality damage is also great but if I had to choose, I'd go with acid/poison in this case.
The Boneblades convert 100% Acid to Vitality damage on Bloody Pox. It's not possible to convert damage twice, so equipping the offhand that converts vitality to acid on pox while wielding a Boneblade would not give you any benefits and would most likely seriously reduce your damage output. Try it, see what happens ;)

Groble Effigy question. Before watching this video I had picked up a Groble Toxic Effigy, which include +3 DEE and 36% weapon damage to DEE. That was a really decent bump from what I had previously, but watching this I went over and ended up with the same one that dropped for you, an Aggressive Groble Vile Effigy of Corrosion. This drops my DEE damage by ~1000, but seems to make up for that by adding 3000 damage to Bloody Pox. I'll admit that I wasn't using BP consistently before this switch and I'm trying to rectify that now. I'm still unsure of this tradeoff between the direct damage of DEE and the dot impact of BP.
@@-kurai- Yeah, when I was first experimenting with maxing out Evil Eye damage (few years back) I used the Toxic Effigy and then swapped to a Leafmane Horn later. The toxic effigy is arguably better for DEE than the Leafmane horn but I farmed/exploited the Vinelton shop in Ancient Grove to get ‘the best’ Leafmane Horn possible.
Back to this build, with acid pox conversion, and the Vile Effigy does the pox conversion while also adding varying amounts of damage to DEE depending on affixes. Overall, this build with both pox and DEE doing acid damage is more effective than my minimalist DEE character.

@@Arcadelife1What did you end up picking for your 2nd mastery? I'm really enjoying the Occultist, this is the smoothest leveling I've experienced in the game so far.
@@-kurai- Here’s the video I did for the second mastery options for this character - th-cam.com/video/tFn2P4vvANE/w-d-xo.html - I’ve previously used Arcanist for the damage/spirit buffs and the damage absorption from maiven’s sphere but I actually went with Soldier this time because it seems like a fun/weird choice and also the tankiness is nice in hardcore.
Would you mind elaborating more on Bloody Pox. Can you use it as a main attack rather than eye of dreeg? Pros and cons etc thanks
@@michaeltrull5788 They work well together, particularly with the acid conversion on pox. Pox is excellent on big groups. Evil Eye has area damage but excels as a big single-target attack. I talk about it a lot in this video - th-cam.com/video/c74_r56fLbg/w-d-xo.html
I always forget about screen rotate and just pixel hunt with a cursor. I think, I know most of the secret places by now. Nice reference to Quaid.
Controller (Xbox) is best IMO. You can whip the screen around. It's great.

Thanks for the comment, the answer to the question is fairly easy and doesn’t really need a video:
Turn off cloud saving (in-game and in the Steam option for the game if applicable). Leave this off always.
Find the local save folder, should be something like Documents/My Games/Grim Dawn - rename the folder in there from ‘save’ to something else, for example ‘old_save_01’ or whatever.
Start Grim Dawn. It will not find the ‘save’ folder so it will create a fresh one. Full reset achieved, old save not lost just in case you need to go back to it.
And yes, you can copy the character name folders from the renamed save folder back into the new one. You’ll get the character back but not the shared stash contents or any previously learned blueprints - these are saved independently from the characters.

Another fun thing to do with Bloody Pox is if you do a physical / bleed Witchblade and attach Blind Fury to Bloody Pox. If your OA is high, BF will trigger constantly, even after they're dead. It worked great until I got killed by Grimmaw somehow. Fevered Rage is dangerous on Ultimate. I've lost 2 characters to that.

How Does Bloody Pox Work? Do you have to put it on your bar and activate it?
@@Hunsman01 Yes, it’s an attack skill that affects more than one target and can also be spread to new targets by infected enemies, even by the corpses of dead infected enemies.

@@charlesballard5251 Changing it up a bit. I’ve got so many levelling videos covering the early game, it just felt like I needed to compress the footage down to “Well, I went there and got that stuff” which is all anyone really needs to know. To be honest, the build for the first 50-ish levels is extremely simple to gear-up and allocate skills & devotions. Seeing me doing every little bit of it wouldn’t be massively beneficial.

How do you get to Sister Crimson in the Infernal Wastes so early, like pre level 30...?!
@@peterl3478 Complete Krieg quest (around level 18-20), go straight into Forgotten Gods, complete Dreeg quests to reach Vanguard of the Three, run up from there to Infernal Wastes rift. I’ve done this ‘a few’ times so I can get there quite quickly 👊🙂

One thing I never caught you telling us was what faction you went with at the beginning of Forgotten Gods. I assume Dreeg?
Yeah Dreeg. Sorry I didn’t specify that; I mentioned the Dreeg movement augment but didn’t actually say I’d joined Dreeg. I don’t rely on urgently getting their gear so it’s not a problem if you went with another faction.
@@Arcadelife1 Yeah, I got busy with other things after asking and when you hadn't gotten back to me about 4 hours later I brought it up and went Dreeg. One thing that differs at this point from your character is that I've go the full Miasma Set. I'm sure I'll be replacing it by the end of the day. I did get to the Korvan Plateau where you got the off-hand, but mine didn't drop with the right fixes. I was tired at that point so I turned it off and went to bed. I'm up now and about to begin my Saturday. Getting back to it. Later.
@@charlesballard5251 The offhand is important if you want to go for Acid/Poison bloody pox. It means the damage buffs are more focussed because you're not buffing vitality damage. Check you got the correct offhand, it's the Groble VILE Effigy. Affixes don't matter so much now, but will in late game.
@@Arcadelife1 Thanks for that heads-up I did spend 45 minutes or more farming the damned thing after my last message. I must have done it 20+times but only got a total of maybe 5 of the things including the one from last night. Only one of them was acceptable. I'll check it in a few hours then get back to you.
@@charlesballard5251 If you’re wondering how good this build will be later, here’s a minor spoiler - I went straight into Ultimate after beating Log in Veteran and pretty much one-shot the reanimator and that was with a mix of easy-farm gear, faction shop items and the same rings and amulet I’m using in this video. Medal is the boss-drop from Bloodfeast in Tyrant’s Hold - I’ll be explaining why that is a good item in the next video.
Question: why did you take Spider instead of Scorpion to get green? In constellations
Eventually I will have small number of attack skills to attach devo skills and Scorpion won't be strong enough late game to be a contender. Also, it activates centred on the player character which is fairly useless for a kiting caster who attacks from range. I've used it before but I didn't want to waste time and devo points on it in this demonstration.
So you are showing how to run single mastery instead of combo?
I'll stay with Occultist until all of Normal/Vet is completed (probably) to demonstrate the strength of Occultist as single mastery.
Then I'll respec a few times to demonstrate the versatility of the mastery(class).
If you have a look in the description there are links to videos about characters which have Occultist as one mastery plus another mastery as examples of the different things that can be done using Occultist.
I'm not saying "Only use Occultist", I'm demonstrating how good it can be as a solo class or as part of a 2-class character/build.
I dont know what the big fascination of playing hardcore is honestly, all that work you put into leveling and getting gear just to die once by accident (to probably something stupid) and everything was for nothing...idk maybe just my opinion
@@XuroX. It’s personal choice. If you have any reservations about losing gear or other aspects of permanently losing a character, don’t play hardcore. It’s an interesting challenge and I like using hardcore for builds I know well (such as this one) in guide videos because one of the best things to be able to tell viewers is “This character can do [whatever] in hardcore, so it’s definitely strong whether you decide to play hardcore or not” - something like that anyway.
There’s no ‘big fascination’ with hardcore in my opinion, just an additional level of challenge for anyone daft enough to want it 😂
Get audacity, record a few seconds of the background of the room you are recording in, then start your vid. When you are done, import your audio into audacity sample your background noise, those first few seconds, and filter that segment out from the rest of the track.
Thanks, yeah I've got audacity installed but I'm too time-restricted (lazy) to bother faffing about with the audio that much.
I know I’m late to the party but when you are doing video for people on a fist time playthrough just showing mobs that something drops from doesn’t help those of us that have no idea where to find those mobs
