Honorable mention to Beads of Fealty for being a free potential pearl, since getting a pearl from any other lunar means taking something away from your build, or dealing with a downside you otherwise wouldn't care for for a while
One thing about Tonic that I feel goes overlooked is that even with permanent uptime, when Mithrix takes your items, your tonic will run out as you don't have the items you need to keep it up. And when it does run out, you will receive tonic afflictions based on how many times your items activated it over the course of the stage. It can be very crippling in a phase where you already have all your items taken away.
If you play phase 4 aggresively it's not really an issue. No matter how unlucky you are with the timing you will get one full duration of tonic(you get 2 if you time the phase 3 kill correct), and he's extremely easy to beat while you still have the tonic effect. Usually i get all the afflictions after mithrix is already dead and then it doesn't matter much.
I feel like the easiest and most sensible way to fix Tonic would be to have each stack of affliction reduce the length of the tonic effect. Simulates a real addiction and makes using it an actual risk
@@BritOfADrag what about 100% chance to reduce duration (logarithmicly) and it's applied on activation, not on expiration. that way to keep full uptime you constantly need more gestures/fuel cells until you reach rounding errors
@@ThePizzabrothersGaming I love that premise. It turns the comfort of 100% tonic uptime into a desperate, feverish need to keep chasing the dragon. You'd be running around at the speed of sound, melting every enemy you see - but instead of feeling good about it, you'd be thinking: _"Shit, I need a fuel cell! Where is it? If I don't find one in the next 2 minutes, I'm screwed! C'mon, game, work with me, WORK WITH ME!!"_ And that feels _much_ more in line with the fantasy of tweaking on an incredibly powerful drug. Especially since there's actually a way to fail at outrunning the consequences.
Tonic is also way stronger than it is on paper because its multiplication not addition so one soldiers syringe gives you 22.5% attack speed per syringe instead of just giving you a flat 70% more attack speed buff like warhorn, and it does this for all the buffs if gives
Essence of Heresy is like the most perfect skill for commando ever. Synergize s with his very fast attack speed, procs bands well (somethign commando struggles with), and replaces both his shitty specials
One thing to note with Spinel Tonic is that there is currently a bug in the game where tonic afflictions are accrued when while your uptime is permanent. This is only a problem when you fight Mithrix Phase 4, but trust me when I say fighting him with 14 tonic afflictions is not fun.
I'm pretty sure that's not a bug, it's an intentional downside to using tonic. The afflictions are calculated every time each individual activation of the equipment runs out, even if you don't actually gain them until the effect is gone. It makes it so that you can only fight mithrix with tonic up, and you can't swap equipments safely without using a blast shower
like flopfish says, that's supposed to happen. but the real bug is that all your affliction stats get removed on level transition. if you don't want the spinel tonic anymore but don't want to be smashed with 50 afflictions, just try to quickly find a new equipment item at the beginning of the next stage; easily done at the bazaar.
stacking strides of heresy only increases duration not cooldown unlike the other heresy items. it’s actually pretty nice to have 2 or 3 for a near full heal
Strides of Heresy always has a 6 second cooldown (after the ability ends) regardless of its stacks. Also, Hooks of Heresy is honestly super underrated. It's a bit awkward to use, but the damage output is insane and rooting enemies is really powerful.
Hooks is always my preference on Captain. More because I can't stand the taser, but I learned to get really good at using hooks since I took it every run.
This is true. In fact, in practice you'll probably end up with slightly less than 1/8th of the volume to work with as the prongs of the teleporter itself will take up a greater proportion of the teleporter zone.
Smol correction - you can take more than 200% of your max hp from fall damage on e3, but it's really hard to do in a regular run. If you fall from the Mithrix arena all the way down, for example, you will take quite a bit more than that, I think the highest I managed was 5 times my hp. However, with trimping (especially on acrid), on a test run I accidentally slammed myself and took 100 times my max hp in fall damage :D
Transcendence also allowing for permanent plasma shrimp uptime which is insane... and i think the honorable mention should go to the shrine of order its a real one that has crashed my game with 5 iridescent pearls, 4 icbms, 6 charged perfs, 13 kjaros bands, and 30 fireworks

Can't say i fully agree with the list. I don't think I can... it's greyed out for me..........
is that astral alley from the indie hit game night in the woods??

7:38 meatbun in etg doesn't half your health lmao. it's an active that once used heals for 2 hearts and gives you extra dmg until the next time you take damage.
i once gaslit my friend into picking up 20 stacks of stone flux pauldrons from a 3d priter, claiming it’ll make him tankier. Took him a whole 5 minutes to reach the teleporter.
at 7:38 there are 4 characters from other roguelites shown off, what is the rightmost one? im not familiar with it
Can't say i fully agree with the list. Never cared for corpsebloom since i felt the healing limitation wasn't worth and i feel that a couple others can be pretty situational depending on character or items you've gotten. Tonic is a good example since yes in theory it's crazy but if you don't have the right setup for it's downside can be rather crippling and not be worth taking over something else. Maybe I'm just a fool but for the most part i haven't felt that lunars are brain dead broken or anything.
Watching disputed eat and chug a smoothie was very unsettling
disputed, i’ve heard you say in multiple videos that -50% radius is more like 1/4 the volume than 1/8 the volume because half of it is underground, but this is just straight up false. the volume of a hemisphere still goes down by 87.5% when you reduce its radius by half.
Nice video! I'm a Woolie man myself but I enjoyed your list.
Casually downing the smoothie without blinking
cant believe I caught one of ur videos only a minute after you made it!
Are you using a mod that changes the Mithrix arena? It looks so cool with the planet in the background
the escapists music gave me so much nostalgia lmao
I had this playing in the background while I pack to move out for the first time and the music in video had my messed up
Best TH-camr disputed origin has uploaded let’s goooo
You can use your equipment while invicinable with item #10 So thats a plus right?
i got a run once with Gesture, tonic, and warhorn, it was so fun. I constantly fluctuated between unstoppable god and crippled old man. One fuel cell wouldve made the uptime 100% but my luck is horrid so…
Congrats on getting sponsored!
Got nearly 700hrs in this game. Just used Tonic for the first time. And of course i paird it with Gesture of the drowned. OP
