And to be fair, can you really blame him? All people have been doing is guess work based on its shape and design, and people just kind of just gave up and said, maybe it is a flute. The thing comes from the beginning of human history, so it makes sense people can't make heads or tails of what it actually is. That's the only thing I could really find everything else seems pretty accurate.
You neglected rattles entirely, not to mention most very old drums. The only saving grace is the Neanderthal flute. But the flute, however ancient, was only the "lead guitar" backed up by the rhythm section of drums and rattles. I dare anybody who hears those 3 instruments played around a campfire not to kick off their shoes and dance. That's hardwired into us.
