  • visiting Stonehenge is almost a duty when you stay in Salisbury... Plus if you already have your English Heritage membership, the fact that you pay nothing for circling around the neolithic structure is always a bonus.
I was in Stonehenge before so the fact that you can´t get near the stones was no surprise to me. But since I was here some twenty years ago, they added a new visitors centre and a reconstruction of a neolithic village.
They don´t know exactly how the houses looked like and they still experiment with shapes of buildings ( mainly constructions of roofs). But it is a really interesting experiment not only for human visitors but also for local birds that were constantly stealing straws from the roofs :-) Tried to catch them in action but wasn´t that fast with my camera...

Thank you @glyn829, you are always very kind.. I met in one of the campings men who told me when he was a child, you could climb on the stones .. unimaginable these days.. I was wondering how they do it during solstices...Do they let people near the stones or are they circling around just like everyday turists... With a view on the busy road it all felt a bit surreal...

Much better than the yellow version.
(Without trolling this magic monument is what makes you fell in awe. It's a time-machine !)
      Beautiful ❤

@@jsb7975 The Salisbury Plain is charming.. It makes you think a lot about past. The Camping in Salisbury is right under the Old Sarum... If someone fortold to the late kings this future reality would they believe?
