    These orders should only exist for people that pose a very real and dangerous threat, such as child molesters.

      Please, please sign, its human rights, EVERYONE NEEDS A RELEASE DATE. Fair enough if a person is sentenced to LIFE, but NO RELEASE DATE .. its against Human Rights!!
      Help family's of ipp prisoners get their loved ones home. enough is enough ❤ Exactly he said there, its not just punishing the person, but the FAMILY, FRIENDS, we DO the SENTENCE with them.

      @MissFoxification 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You do realise that there is probably some IPP prisoners that are murderers and child molesters, right Samantha Chandler?
      A much better response would to be to review each case and apply a proper term with release date, and if applicable, if a person has exceeded a typical sentence for their crime, they can be released.
      If they committed murder, then they should probably have the traditional 25 to life and not be released merely because they are on an IPP.

    • @Samantha_C1
      @Samantha_C1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      MissFoxification I agree.
      My daughter's dad is serving an IPP for drugs related crimes, he got 6 & hlf years - appealed & lessened to a 3 & hlf yr tariff.
      As said, Blunkett himself has even said "he regrets handing out IPP sentences".
      Its not just mental torture on the prisoners, but families. My now ex & was at the time when he was sentenced, is a very headstrong man, but there are those who have taken their lives.
      I know of one case a man set his mattress alight when drunk, he then tried to put it out but got trapped in the room & the house went up. No one was hurt, only him inside. To be honest, I haven't heard of many IPP's being murders, I guess as murder is a crime that should really carry LIFE.
      Also when they are released the probation requirements are that of a murderer, so even if set free, their never really free.
      All those cases that have gone over NEED too be reviewed independently back in courts.

    • @Samantha_C1
      @Samantha_C1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Win Stabell I agree both are equally as bad. But as I said, I don't think there are any murders with IPPs, as murder = life. Or should do.

    • @MissFoxification
      @MissFoxification 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Punishments are not only shaped to fit the crime, but to preserve the safety of the public.
      Functionally there are people with IPP's that if retried will definitely be given a sentence that exceeds their lifespan.
      Why spend money retrying those people? They are never going to get out.
      I'd rather see that money spent on higher education inside prisons. That actually gives people a chance in life and reduces recidivism greatly.
      The only ones that should be retried are the ones that are on IPP's for crimes that typically get less than a life sentence.

  • @davidcooper9680
    @davidcooper9680 8 ปีที่แล้ว +208

    Spent some time inside while IPP was active and by far the guys on IPP were the most dangerous not because of the crimes they had committed but when they have given up on ever being released. a standard sentence has an end date you're going to try and avoid trouble 3 years into a 6 year sentence etc but when you've lost all hope of ever getting out it can start to change people into people who are no longer safe to release which just compounds the problem.

      a guy who killed an ex-soldier, while working as a bouncer, charged with manslaughter. Then sold drugs as a dealer (not sure if he was charged with that tbf) then he was charged with assault, with no punishment. Then 2018, Jan, he assaulted my mum, me, and my dad (the guy is like 25 stone, huge) and got off with a suspended sentence, got to keep his job too.
      UK is just simply insane. Injust justice. Gone through that and seeing these guys making one mistake and them serving time, wasting their lives, it's a shame. I'm so sorry for them. & that fat bully gets to walk free without any affect on him, mental, fudgin mental.

    Johnny was sentenced to 3.5 yrs. for Grievous Bodily Harm.He hit s/o in the head with a bat or tire iron. Seems near to aggravated battery or even attempted murder.He's done 8 yrs. seems like time for release, but what about the man he fought who is likely disabled for life and a taxpayer liability for life ? You beat s/o to the point where they can't regain their normal life , make a living....for little or no reason.You should have to support that victim of your excessive use of violence.
    That is far different from the chronic,habitual shoplifter who should do a short fixed term at most and make restitution to the vendor as well. GBH is a major felony and we are given no info about what happened to Johnny's victim or Johnny's prior records. Crappy reporting.

      alcohol maybe? drugs? bad up bringing. Nobody is born bad.
      If a part of a plant is dying you dont rip it off and hope for the best. You use logic and reason.. something people in power seem to intentionally lack. No. you find out what is wrong with the soil, or is the plant not getting enough light, is nutrients being taken to one part more so then the other and you fix it.
      You need to think far bigger then just stupid bone idle BBC news watching tunnel vision on how to solve the problems of this world
      Maybe if more funding was taken out off the rich and given to the poor you would have less people being brought up in such a way. I certainly believe people who have had children at an early age or anyone becoming a parent should have to take a coarse on it first. Or at the least have more comunittie support for neighbourhoods prone to poverty and dodgy upbringings.
      Societies like Norway, Sweden Germany have far better success rates because they work on fixing the systemic problems in society

      @@leanbean359 Rubbish. So you think only the poor council estate kids get into situations they shouldn't be in. You think only the poor take drugs or drink alcohol to excess. People make choices, his choice was to drink or take drugs, his choice was to attack someone for no reason. The choices we make are what makes us the people we are. I was beaten to shit by my step father when he was drunk which was most weekends. I lives in a huge council estate. I do not drink and I have never hit my two children. I made that choice by myself not by nature. I also hate the BBC and never watch it, so never buy a BBC TV licence. If you think taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor will help the poor you need to look at history. It has never worked. The only thing that happens when you do that is make everybody poor. When everyone is poor there is no investment, no drive, no reason to get out of bed in the morning. Stop blaming the rich (and I'm not one) on all your problems. He made a choice. His choice was to get drunk, get high and brain someone.

      Salty potato Excellent, full respect to you, but I still think you are blessed, I know a few people personally that have been to Uni and got degrees in teaching, yet they still can't get a job, they also work very hard, life can have a funny turn for some people. despite how hard and how much some people work and achieve the smile of fate stops them going any further.
      3 times I have tried to personally open my own business and 3 times at the last minute, a spanner has been thrown into the situation.
      Yet a person I know can't read properly or write, yet he has his own.business, he kind of just fell into it.
      That's what I meant in regards to you, I have a good job myself, which has took a lot of hard work, what is meant to be will be. Fail on one hand, achieve with the other. I also don't want you thinking I was being patronizing, because I wasn't.
      Now you seem Like nice person, you don't go pubs and do the other stuff, however if you had a burglar that broke in your home in the middle of the night and wanted to do harm to your daughter, I pretty much doubt that you would think, well I have a pretty good lawyer so I will wait till he's finished and call my lawyer and police, when your child is crying and screaming, calling out in pain and fear for mummy/daddy to stop the pain and save them, your maternal instinct will be to protect your child, by any means necessary, now imagine if it went terribly wrong and the burglar ended up in a bad way, you then lose your great job, home and your daughter, you are now in your 7th year in prison, your life is ruined, you have lost your home, forget about your great job, because despite all your hard work, you will never get a great job again, you still don't know when your going to be released and every day is in agony, the not knowing is the hardest part.
      Someone who has committed manslaughter is going to be released today, next week a armed robber is going to be released, you still have know release date.
      You think to yourself in your cell every night, all I did was protect my own, the guy didn't die, I didn't kill anyone, what if things had been different, you ask yourself.
      But there not different and you are potentially still in jail for another 2 years, same time as some murderers.
      Do you see what I am saying in this hypothetical scenario?
      I repeat, the punishment does not fit the crime, IPP, is the most disgusting, criminal, unfair system ever. This isn't justice.

I don't mean you have had everything handed to you on a plate, I do mean that you becoming a nuero surgeon over. many that haven't despite others having same qualifications over you, makes you blessed, there is nothing good about the IPP, people don't always think on a split reaction, no matter what the sentence and please don't be so naive, you may have the best security system to date, this does not mean it's impossible to break in your house, difficult yes, impossible no, banks also have top security systems, even Buckingham Palace has been broken in to, potentially the best in the world as on top of the system, they also have physical security.

When there is a jury for a crime, the jury box isnt filled the victims family members because they are not impartial. 8 years is a long time to spend your life being held against your will. The excuse of the parole board that this man may commit and his family being so supportive may hide him as an excuse to continue to hold him prisoner is an absolute disgrace. Thought crime to the max. Thats what the UK has become I guess. Good thing the sycophants like yourself enable it.

      If they decide to release and that scumbag does it again then people like you may go ape. And that is understandable. So the threshold they put down must be a high one.

    GBH with intent you're looking at 5-7 years anyway, there's no way you'd expect a 4 year sentence with parole from an offence like that to be out in 2 years. But what's happening to these prisoners is still shocking, it's a waste of public resources and is a practice kept for some of the worst places for sentencing like Broadmoor that only get released on doctors orders, people like Charles Bronson served almost a decade there with no release date and he is still in prison to this day. If I were in this situation I'd rather be in Broadmoor because at least I'd have a chance of being in a rehabilitation wing where you have your own space, your own keys and more freedoms like fresh air, gardens, mini super markets, etc. At the end of the day you're still serving a sentence with no definitive release date.

I've also known a couple of people who have escaped IPP sentences that the authorities had applied for because the applications were turned down. They were equally dangerous and uncontrollable. All had long records of extreme violence and use of weapons. 2 had convictions for kidnapping. (All of the people who escaped IPP sentence applications went on to commit more violent offences. The point I was making was directed at the other guy who called them guards when they are prison officers, and the prison officers work to a set of control measures decreed by law. You also don't seem to realise that detainees a guantanamo are being held without charge, which is very different to the people in this video who have a judicial conviction. Clearly their extended detainment is unjust but the prison officers are not to blame.
      As an aside, I know a guy who worked at the prison where rolf harris was going to on the day he got his sentence in court... When the transport van arrived at the prison he had all his staff out in the yard with cardboard tubes and big wobble boards ready to greet rolf harris. lol.

      It would be even worse if the uk went down the same road as America and privatise the prison system which would mean that it would become profitable to incarcerat even the smallest of minor crimes and misdemeanours. Also those prisons need to keep over 70% occupancy or risk losing government funding and end up closing down which makes them highly motivated to keep prisoners in far longer than their original sentence using trumpt up charges of causing trouble. Lets just hope we don't do the same.

    If somebody does their time for the crime, but is kept in prison until some (most likely and from the sound of his in vids probation officer) control freak decides that the person is deemed "safe" for society, then they are effectively being punished for crimes (based on somebodys opinion) that they may or may not commit in the future.
    A jury must base their verdict from the evidence and must be 100% certain to pass a guilty verdict in court. Meanwhile these people are being held in prison based on an opinion.

    Let's face it, Jail is a business, they have to have a certain amount of prisoners to justify the prison being open, they also have workshops in a lot of prisons that reminds me of the old workhouses of times gone by. Cheap Labour maximum profit.
    Even everything you buy through your canteen, the prison system makes on this.

    Yeah right! It's easy loving someone who's locked away, and not standing in your face 24/7 drunk and talking shit.
    Wait for these turds to get out. I give it 6 weeks and these 'devoted' women will be ringing the police and demanding they take them back to prison!

    This topic isnt a one way street. It is hard on the families, incarceration of these people isnt always as effective but there needs to be a pivotal change not only in the way this country rehabilitates inmates but also the social drives behind the behaviour being committed. There needs to be a cultural change

    I was so close to getting IPP sentence in 2005, it was recommended but luckily I got EPP instead, I still served 6 years for a fight, me and 2 friends had a drunken fight with a large group of Asian lads, nothing major. I ended up with 10 years on licence, I got recalled for 12 months just for having a pee in a hedge, I got recalled for another 6 months for drinking in public while on licence (in my sisters garden at a family bbq), it was hell. I hate to think what these are going through. 10 years out for me now, fully qualified tree surgeon, was manager of council landscape division, now running a large business and helping others into work. I was a idiot when I was younger,had big ego and always fighting, anyone can change. I hope these people are freed, and supported and even compensated. These are not killers, rapists, they are people who made repeated minor mistakes most at young age.

    Completely unfair. Like these boys said they know they've fucked up, made stupid rash decisions, they know they deserved in prison for something. But to give them no hope, crush them again and again is unfair. Especially in comparison to other criminals. This is just slowly ruining their mentality and will lead to destructive behaviour. Why don't these prison officers have any sense. You can't control people this way and you can't truly judge a person from a hearing every 2 years.

      @velveteyes79 That's not how a real judge works man but yeah it should be. Ive been jumped twice, first time really messed my face up but nothing serious. The second time a guy came at me swinging an iron bar at my head, I obvs put my arms over my head to protect myself and the bar shattered my forearm, think of what that would have done to my skull. Both for no reason at all and all they got was the usual bail, fines, comm service. I got a decent comp payment but I'd rather have a fully working arm.

    After watching the whole thing I think there has to be more to the story than what Vice is covering. Like did Johnny have any prior convictions because that would play a role. As for his girl and mom do they have a record and the board is using that against them? I'm trying to understand why if he was just in a fight he'd still be in prison. The one guy that got paroled had 2 prior convictions as a youngster and he's out so it makes me think there's more to the story with Johnny.

However, for Michael to complain about being punished and not knowing when he is getting out, how disgusting it is.... shouldn’t he be saying the same thing about himself? Who knows if his victim will forever have anxiety about going out in public who knows if his victim is suffering from terror who knows if his victims family is also suffering so for him to sit there and complain about “it’s not fair they punished not just me but my mom and my pa and my nan” Uhmmm get over yourself that’s ridiculous look what you did and focus on yourself. gross. Should he have anything to look forward to? Does his victim have anything to look forward to? Does he know when the fears are going to end does he know when the anxiety is going to end I seriously doubt it especially if it’s true that he beat him up for “no reason“

    I think these sentences are just, if not weak. If people are willing to commit such violent crimes they should be willing to accept the consequences. If you or someone you love was randomly beaten up for no reason, I'd want an even longer sentence than both of these guys to be given out. I've seen a friend of mine knocked unconscious and punched several times while defenseless. He had his nose and an eye socket broken and was hospitalised, you could argue could have been killed. The guy who did to him it got 180 hours community service. Absolute farce!

    I feel for the lads, hope they stay strong. It's hard to believe a calculated average, can't be established from some database that could accurately estimate, how long non IPP prisoner's are sentenced for, when It's the same particular crime(s) as the IPP one's? Unfortunately no case is going to be the same, but out of the 4000 still awaiting processing, surely at least 80% that those crimes are committed and sentenced for everyday. I say make a decision for a crime that statistics have shown 4 - 5 years or 2 - 3 years give it to them, stand by it, then it's over.

    None of these people you are showing have committed minor offences. The first guy Johnny hit someone in the head with a weapon, which could've killed or caused brain damage. In fact Johnny's family went out and celebrated, thinking he got a light sentence for his violent crime. His mother downplaying his vicious attack as him being a young silly boy. Tbh I don't feel bad for any of them. 8 years for what he did would be a lenient sentence in most other countries.
