100%. In this sports world consumed by highlights and stats, where so many supposed fans don’t even watch full games anymore, so many just have no clue how important a player like Schaefer will be. Any team that passes on him, the manager will likely not be around much longer. Especially in a draft where there’s NOT a can’t miss C prospect. Just look how good Canada looked in Game 1 vs Finland. That’s no coincidence that Schaefer controlled the I’ve for significant stretches. Even if Detroit or Buffalo get that pick, they’ll draft him, with how deep and good their young D-Core already is. Worse case, they’d have massive trade offers. It’ll be a shock if Schaefer isn’t 1st overall. Plus he’ll barely turn 18 during training camp next season.
You don't think Hagens stood out? Uhhh. Okey dokey. Ill just disagree. Wholeheartedly. Granted he was playing with two elite prospects. But the kid is a super high IQ goal scorer whos involved in every offensive high danger play. Hes all over the ice. He finishes when chances come. He gets to loose pucks. Has elite shot. Hes not missing a damn thing for me. And goals that are not pretty are how you score in the NHL
Overall, I thought he looked really good in the tournament. I don't really go by the point totals because there's always one or two really bad teams that offensive players typically pile up points on. That said, I felt like I wanted to see more from Hagens in the 2nd and especially 3rd period of the gold medal game when it was clutch time. I'd have to go back and watch that game again, but it seem like he receded a bit into the background in the last two periods. Part of it seemed like it was due to Perreault, Leonard, & Buium weren't passing to anyone else when those three were on the ice, and along with Hutson, those four seemed to be driving the play in the last two periods of the game. Perreault was taking shots nearly every time he touched the puck when there were several times he should have dished to Hagens. But Haagens seemed like he couldn't find as much open ice in those periods as he did before and seemed to lose more puck battles than in prior games. Still, I think he's really good. I just wanted to see him be a bit more involved in the last two periods. On the whole, I think his draft stock went up after the tournament.
Misa, Hagens, and Desnoyers definitely move up a bit after the tournament in my rankings. Desnoyers in my view is gonna be the sleeper of this draft and he's a steal for anyone picking if he's still available anywhere in the 10th to 20th range.
Hagens definitely stood out when on the ice and had 9 points and one of the leading scorers of the tournament. He was very close scoring few more goals. Martone didn’t stand out at all on the ice and I think Hagens definitely distanced himself from anyone else as the top prospect
It’s funny. Those who still use the pre-season excuse against Misa playing C in the NHL, simply don’t watch enough of these kids. They’re just putting names in their own hat and trying to remember some things said about a kid. There’s an actual video going around, where it’s showing Misa doing all those little things people said they didn’t know if he could do. He’s finally playing C full time. And what’s with the “character issue?” Talk about inventing things. Schaefer will go #1 and either Misa or Hagens will go #2, unless there’s a team who’s fallen in love with a dman. Martone is the likely player to drop some. Especially if Frondell has a really good 2nd half. Nobody should be surprised if Eklund goes ahead of Martone as well. Too many of Martone’s points, come because of his physical advantage against 16-17 yr old kids, who haven’t developed physically yet. Just like overagers push them around. That’s a pretty big concern. Especially since he just couldn’t keep up at the U20s like people thought he would. Doesn’t mean he’ll be a bust, but there’s a lot more questions with Martone today, than a month ago, after he wasn’t able to dominate any shifts at Worlds. He’s much closer to a Mark Stone with better feet, than a Tkachuk. Where with Misa, there’s a lot less concern, as there’s more and more “tape” of him playing C now.. Its insane he wasn’t on the WJC team.
Tired of the bedard glamourizing. He's good, not a generational player and I am glad the chicago miscreants got him. Currently ranked 45th in points, -18.
The reality guys...if any content crazed people that want their mock drafts in any sport to hold any backing.....they honestly need to come out before the legit ones come out. As an example..before TSNs comes out...before Craig Buttons comes out. Really..it's not difficult to look at Buttons mock and feel a bit differently about 2 3 players and say there..that's my mock draft.
This was more of a mock draft discussion… was supposed to be an original mock draft but figured I’d bring on another view to discuss .. I’ll make my firm mock draft / rankings prior to the draft
Comment your rankings / mock draft / thoughts after the world juniors!
anyone that passes on schaefer is going to be kicking themselves like everyone that passed on Makar in his draft

O'brien is a stud. Bro makes magic outta nothing weapon in the offensive zone.

Agreed
i think frondell with a really solid U18s, to be a wildcard in the top mix.
Hagens had 1 more point in WJC than Celebrini did. I thought he looked great!
Hagens actually did stand out. Not sure what you were watching. He has everything except size.

Habs need offense.

Yeah but if you want to be valued as a scout the draft rankings- not mock draft need to be proven better than average.

USA! USA! USA!! 🇺🇲
Sabres will draft #2 overall.
(We're not lucky enough to win the #1 pick.)

Would BUF take yet another left hand dman in Schaefer?
Wright comparisons to Misa are misleading. Wright's class lost time with COVID and Misa is a way more productive draft year OHL season.
Not a comparison of the player or case. Was only referencing to remind how easy a player’s draft spot can change because of things like this
