    The Drummer is Tamu Murata, a well respected session drummer in Japan (as I understand it). She's a mother of two. The singer Mayu just had a child in November. There are videos of a pregnamt Mayu rocking Aftershock last summer.

    Glad to see you looking into Nemophila! They are really versatile - each of their songs sound different, but still sound like them. Revive, Hypnosis, Style, Adabana, and Seize the Fate will give you a sense of that. Then throw in Night Flight for some straight up rock & roll.

    Nemophila are pure 🔥🔥🔥. They play a wide variety of styles and excel at all of them. Both guitarists play 7 strings and the bassist uses a 5 string. Hazuki is endorsed by Ibanez and Saki has her own signature Killer guitar. Tamu is one of the most respected drummers in Japan. They are all seasoned musicians from previous bands.
    I recommend you check out their song Adabana next.

    The way you described the drummer is pretty much spot on. She is married with two kids but is such a badass on the drums that it is just a part of normal everyday life to play a heavy hard-hitting metal song and then give the baby a bottle.

    Nemophila are in the middle of touring Japan and in March they will be having a 7 city tour in the US. They will start with 3 shows in California and end with a show in NYC. The middle part of the US tour might have some interest for you guys - they will play Houston, Austin and Dallas. They will be playing in Austin on March 16 and 17 as part of SXSW. I will be seeing them in Dallas on March 19. They are also in Houston on March 14. They are a terrific band. They are in my top 3 Japanese bands after Band-Maid and Lovebites (I saw Band-Maid in Dallas a few months ago). I think y'all should see them live if at all possible

    • @LikeMindedLunatics
      @LikeMindedLunatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw that were playing SXSW, but I'm gonna be honest with you here. My wife and I get the hell out of town during SXSW. It's an utter nightmare. So as much as I want to see them live, I'll probably have to skip that show. I'm hoping they'll be on some festival lineups in the near future.

    • @danw6048
      @danw6048 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LikeMindedLunatics I don't blame you at all for leaving town during SXSW although that is quite a few days to be out of town. If Nemophila was not playing Dallas, I would not be making the trip to Austin to see them. You should consider the Houston or Dallas shows. The Dallas show is at Trees which has a capacity of only about 400 and it was less than half house when I bought my tickets a week ago. Nemophila has not been announced for any festivals yet. Band-Maid is playing Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple in May and Hanabie will be at Blue Ridge Rock Fest in September.

    Nemophila rock, great band. This band has so much variety in their influences in rock, hard rock, metal, grunge, it all shines through in their music. Their latest album Seize the fate, songs are such variety, even genre wise. Murata Tamu is the drummer, great session drummer before, well loved. Saki is the guitarist with her signature Amp. Hazuki is the other guitarist, both virtuosos. Haraguchi San is the bassist. Mayu the vocalist is so unique. Both Saki and Hazuki play 7 strings. Haraguchi plays a five string bass.
    They formed in august 2019 as a one show Session for Mayu. Realized they love playing together, formed. But then restrictions set in, Tamu had a baby in early 2020. They’ve done everything themselves using YT brilliantly.

  • @hiawatha.g
    @hiawatha.g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.”
    First, a correction: Nemophil-a (NOT “Nemophil-i-a) were founded in 2019. You got the names, here are also their former bands:
    ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki
    ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu
    ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
    ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and
    ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu
    Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. They started by posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” th-cam.com/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/w-d-xo.html
    The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an extremely moving moment captured on live stream: “Life” th-cam.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/w-d-xo.html
    After Oiran, others to check include “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: th-cam.com/video/lh-dVLKP314/w-d-xo.html
    More recent drops that showcase their intensity and versatility:
    “Adabana” th-cam.com/video/AxYiOwsu6wU/w-d-xo.html
    “Style” th-cam.com/video/Aph5GON6rPc/w-d-xo.html
    (written by their bassist, Haraguchi-san)
    “Seize the Fate” th-cam.com/video/4tpgLyckVYg/w-d-xo.html
    Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a great metal vocalist.

    Both guitars are 7-strings. Hazuki (first solo, black hair with glitter) plays Ibanez. Saki (second solo, red hair) plays a signature Killer guitar, designed by Akira Takasaki of Loudness fame. They do have a "US Version" of this song, which is entirely in English, though this version is almost entirely English, except for a couple lines during the choruses.
    Incidentally ... what you said "imagine doing that for an hour-long show" ... think about Lovebites, who I believe you've checked out before. They play 2-2.5 hour shows at an even faster pace! I nearly pass out just listening from my couch!

    i have definitely noticed when japan does metal it never really goes in the death metal or any of that stuff direction that is big here in north America, a lot of it tends to be power metal, symphonic, etc. more European style. which i LOVE as i started with those genres. but there's always some like maximum the hormone does plenty of super crunchy guttural style.

    • @LikeMindedLunatics
      @LikeMindedLunatics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Ricky and I have talked a lot about that. We think it's probably because in other countries, the symphony is a much more accessible genre; whereas, here in the states, it's kind of seen as a hoity-toity genre, and blues was kind of the working person's genre. So we kind of think there was a cultural difference that just leant itself to a more symphonic sound in other countries.

    NEMO-FEE-LA... No "I" at the end.. Named after the blue five petal Nemophila flower that is native to the North America but there is big park in Japan (Hitachi Seaside Park) where its planted and when they bloom, it turns the whole park blue. The bands style is to hard and soft at the same time. As they say "Fluffy Hell" (Fuwafuwa jigoku). They will do a US tour in March (California, New York, Texas). Most of this song is in English. The lyrics are embedded if you had turned the CC on. They did a "US Version" of this song and others that are all full English. During the Coronavirus Apocalypse of the Bizarro World they did many covers of Classic songs. This kept their popularity growing and one of the few good things to come out of that period..

    Believe or not their biggest influences are the top 80's Japanese rock/metal bands such as X Japan, Show Ya, and Luna Sea.
    They began as Mayu's Session Band, put together for a limited time to showcase Mayu. They found that they enjoyed playing together, they meshed easily and were in sync. So they became Nemophila.
    The stack you commented on is Saki's, she's had it forever. First saw I when she was with Mary's Blood.

    just an FYI, idk if anyone has said it, but on alot of japanese rock/metal band videos these days, if you turn on CC, you get the offical engish translated lyrics. and with Nemophila, you will find out that alot of the songs from their first full album are usually 70-80% english, especially this one. just have to listen for the tone shifts. would recommend turning CC on and listen and not pause every 3 sec at least one time. will be able to hear and understand what the song is about lol.

    Dude, how many times are you guys gonna pause the song? Your channel your rules I guess. Insane amount of pausing. Moving on. To bad, this is a great song, from a great band.

      The funny thing is you could have moved on and simply found a channel that better matched your preferences but instead you decided to comment and put negativity into the world.

      @@danw6048 I completely understand that our style isn't to everyone's liking. We can't all like this same stuff, and that's cool. But what I don't get is people who have to comment on things they don't like. Doesn't make sense to me.

    The biggest mistake you make with Japanese bands, especially female bands. To conclude from the appearance to the age and then to the musician experience. We from the West are always wrong.
    Most of the whole band are only new to us, relatively. We had time in the pandamy to click through TH-cam. And beer from the can is still a mortal sin for me, but I know, still better than the usual at your place

      I don't think we did that. If we did, I'm sorry it came across that way.

      Ah gotcha! I thought we'd screwed up somehow!
      And I get it. I'd much rather have my beer in a glass like a gentleman, but I find that the can is much more conducive to my violent hand gestures when I speak, especially after I've been drinking!
