    Sucks to break down. But what a view! Incredibly gorgeous place to be stuck. I’m pleased to see that all three of you guys don’t just arbitrarily squish the little critters. Thanks for showing care for the environment in several different ways.

    Thanks for the reminder to check my belt tension!
    I should probably order a spare belt too. My plan was also to just pro-actively change the belt whenever I change the tires.

      That's a good idea.. maybe every second tire change. Having a spare is really a must, though. They take so long to get!

      @@TAD-9 to be honest, I didn't like how it felt to ride (too heavy, awkward handle bar placement, footpegs in a weird spot).. and $4k extra for the ability to charge in 1hr. If someone imports one, I'd love to take it on a longer ride to do a proper comparison, but I really think the previous models are better bang for your buck.

    Hells Bells! That happened to me a month or so ago. Luckily I was in San Francisco, so I got my cardio in and pushed the bike to the dealership. I guess it's just that time for parts on the 2015 models to start failing. Needless to say...I am definitely bookmarking this in case it happens again when I am riding out of town.

    So, I had my belt break today (2015 SR). Semi-hard accel while going over train tracks. I’m not very handy, so it went to the Zero dealer/shop. My question is, how long should it take to replace the belt (hours of labor)? They quoted me 3-4 hours, and I’ve had a few people scoff at that time frame. They had a belt on hand so I don’t have to wait for it, which is nice.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's quite a bit of work, but it only took us about 30 minutes (on the side of the road with limited tools). Quoting 3-4 hours is absolutely insane haha, but I'm glad they were able to get you in and out the same day.

    That was easy! Thumbs up for the easy going self sufficient Kiwis! Of course things brake down on e-bikes too with such massive torque...but there are far less parts that can break down. So what are the real costs of maintenance of an E bike throughout their lifespan? Do you know of any statistics / findings? All the best from the Netherlands.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That's a good question. So far it's just been brake pads and tire changes. Belts are about $100 if they snap, but they seem to last between 30-40k km's. If the onboard charger fails (which is common) it's $800 to replace, but there are better charging options out there now. Having ridden my Zero for 3 years, I would never go back to gas :D

    I guess this is a good lesson for every motorcycle rider.
    Everybody who drives a car should know how to change a tire especially in emergency situations.

      @NewZeroland  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PtBm2975 haha, I gave my spare to Tim because he needed to swap his (a week before this video) and Jef's spare was still being shipped. I have another spare now though. A chain conversion is pretty appealing right now, but I really hate the maintenance and noise. If they made a hub motor with the same amount of power, that would be way cooler.

    • @PtBm2975
      @PtBm2975 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed-chain maintenance is a grind, but reliable and easy to fix on the fly. Hub motors are more reliable still, but not great, torque-wise. (“Unsprung weight” is not the issue it’s made out to be unless you’re off-roading, so hubs are great city bikes.) Zero, Lightning, Harley and now Evoke have all decided belt drives are the future. The only solution is to wear several spares, bandoleer-style, and hope for the best. 😉

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends.. a lot of it is basic mechanical stuff, or just unplugging and replacing things. Stuff like the battery is high voltage and potentially dangerous so that should be done by a dealer.. but most other stuff is simple 😁
