If you would like to watch a video about the Emperor Titus who was the ruler of the Roman Emperor during the eruption of Vesuvius, check this out. th-cam.com/video/G0SqKWx14TE/w-d-xo.html
And these extraordinary phernomena occurred after weeks of being assaulted by the Turks and cannons relentlessly blasting away at the walls. It is no wonder that these bad omens and what they considered the divine abandoning their city that morale collapsed. What must have been even more thrilling was for the native Pacific islands watching a mountain explode. No problem.
It is not unimportant to note how the Eastern Roman Empire suffered a similar cataclysm, also from a volcanic eruption, in the year 536 (labeled as the worst year to be alive by historians). The consequences were devastating, including widespread crop failure, and worse was yet to come with the plague. Further reference to this event can be found in Michael the Syrian's writings.
And a minor erruption of the Volcano of Thera (Santorini) is said to have been what lead to the Iconomachy (Iconoclasm), due to it being seen as a bad omen and sing from God.
Interesting, I am from Vanuatu, my partner is from the two islands where the volcanic eruption occurred. He was just telling me about this eruption and how it could have possibly wiped out the natives of the two islands and possibly the whole of Vanuatu. I never knew how big of an impact this event had on the rest of the world. Thank you for sharing this informative content.
This was very apocalyptic to the Eastern Romans, when I learned about the Fall of Constantinople, I know about thunder striking the dome of Hagia Sophia but never heard about being connected to a volcanic eruption before.
Indeed, this is when scientists and historians combine their expertise. Although Constantinople is prone to rough whether the accounts given in multiple eyewitness and contemporary accounts suggest that this was quite extraordinary which makes it stand out. I found it very interesting.
Here again you have expanded my knowledge of the tragic end of Constantinople. I thank you! I remember reading about the " glory " leaving " Hagi Sophia ,but knew nothing of this eruption that caused it.
Eastern Roman History Thank you! I’d love to hear a comprehensive detailing of the court at its height in the Great Palace as well as the court of the Komnenoi at Blachernae and the post-Nicea court. I’ve read a little about the Emperor’s daily routine, though I’m yearning to learn more about that in particular. Was his routine scripted and attended like the Bourbon kings of Versailles?
Kuwae Volcano 🌋 is in our island 🏝Tongoa home village kurumambe , heard about the volcano history, thanks for the extensive information and details about Kuwaè volcano 🌋🙏
@@justinpachi3707 No, I think something more like rasta hair with long jihad like beards! I suggest you read the Komnene A., (1118) Alexiad, Journal of Roman Culture and Fashion, Armenikon Thema Publications
Can you make a video on the Byzantine Empire's more interesting diplomacy moments in the last 100 years of its existence (like if it sent envoys to China or some African state).
The paramount chief is TARIPOAMATA of Tanomalala, East of KUWAE, where the volcanic eruption occurred...now occupied Kurumambe village, north of Tongoa and South Epi...🙏🏻🥰
This make the Turkish Victory even more impressive. Its like the Turks fought against Nature will,God will and became Victorious. Yhe Turkish Glory was so Massief that the Greek believed the Turks were Like Olimpic Gods.
Constantinople was so battered by the Crusade of 1204 AD that its fall was inevitable and quite predictable. Mehmet didn't even know how to use the cannons correctly and had to be coached by a Christian on how to best weaken the walls, and it was a Christian who actually designed and transported the cannons and had others built on site. Not that impressive, really. It was so predictable that the gold and treasures had all but been removed to monasteries years earlier. Mehmet got a nothing burger. Not to mention that the final decisive assault was led by Christian Janissaries after wave after wave of Muslim attacks had failed.

Speaking of Titus, this is very reminiscent of the "signs and portents" spoken of by Josephus.
This must have felt truly apocalyptic for the last of the Romans, super interesting connection, great video. I really appreciate the shout-out :)

Now I admire Constantine XI even more for not letting his morale fall even under such dire circunstances.

Can you make a video on the Byzantine court life?
I can certainly can. Such a video might take the form of something akin to my Byzantine Senate videos.

Ave Imperator!
Ave, Imperator! Morituri te salutant! Pro gloria Imperii Romani
That's were we come from kuwae And we are the only tribe that survive by that time till today we still exist
What kind of haircuts were favored by the citizens of the empire at the time?
I think something akin to the paintings of John VIII Palaiologos is a good reference

Wasn't there an angelic being fighting for Constantinople?
No one suspects that this eruption played a role in the fall of Constantinople. The things one learns everyday. Nice video.
Do we know what the icon was made of as some are metal?
It was made of wood.
