My 1st Gibson LP Studio, purchased in2023 in Bourbon Burst is also equipped with the 498t and 490R ? Pickups. Im far from a qualified musician . I have purchased others as well , The EPIPHONE Smokehouse burst 60s LP Standard and the EPIPHONE LP Modern as well. Both look and feel great . But I will concur there is just something about how natural the Gibson LP Studio feels and sounds . It just connects to your musical soul.. Loved the in depth video.
@@billydworrell8259 it’s a great guitar. I figured out what was throwing me off. I got my calipers and measured the neck. Same width, same thickness. The Gibson has different shoulders than the Epi does. It’s weird how your hand can feel things like that. I’ve been playing that Epi for 30 years. I’ve recrowned the frets twice, but they’re getting thin now. That’s why I bought the gibson. No way I was paying a grand for a Chinese guitar. All is good now…except have to get my Epi re-fretted.
@williamsporing1500 Well as I stated before im just a novice player at best, im a better collector than musician. And my hand size I would have to say is very medium. Not small nor large . I've not picked up any of my 7 axes and said , this one feels thick or chunky to me . They all seem to feel ok in my hand even though there all different. Perhaps the one neck thats feels different is the EPIPHONE 1959 reissue as far as size goes. On a different ( note ) pun intended, the Rosewood fretboard on the Gibson LP Studio and the Ebony fretboard on the EPIPHONE LP Modern feel and play amazingly.
That's crazy. I have this exact guitar. Played in a band in Highschool with it. Grew a collection. Ended up joining the military then getting out and becoming a nurse. Lost everything but this guitar. Broke the headstock... Twice (all by myself thankyou). DIY repaired the second break and took off the shine for a satin finish. I would save this guitar first in a fire.
I have a similar guitar, running 500k cts pots, 50’s wiring, stock 490r and 498t pickups. Best guitar I own also. It’s a beast. You can play a power chord and pull up on the high E & B strings, and it just rings out over all of the lows. It’s awesome.
When I was a kid the LP Studio was almost standard issue for a lot of hardcore bands. Then Schecter showed up and started giving away guitars for free to any band that used distortion and palm mutes.
Oh wow! The one that got away for me was a beat 2002 black studio. I agree the 490 is an amazing pickup too. That hazing on the front actually has nothing to do with the break. Most of them from that couple of years have that crazy checking. Mine had no neck break.
My 1st Gibson was a 1992 wine red studio that is still a great guitar. I bought it new when I was 22 years old! It has Bareknuckle Miracle Man pickups in it now and it screams!
I just scored one of these yesterday on a trade. A 97 and cannot believe how phenomenal this sounds and plays. A complete beast! Have a strong feeling this one will end up being my go to as well.
Had a Gothic Explorer with the stock 498T in the bridge that sounded great! Had several people ask me what was in the guitar and they were always shocked it was the stock Gibsons.
I dig this concept, man! The song play-through was a nice new angle. Got some early Testament vibes! Awesome as-is, and this would probably be a huge pain in the ass, but it might be cool to hear a particular guitar through a few different rigs/tones, for future episodes of this concept.
Kyle, I don't know if it was that guitar for the inspiration or what, but, those riffs were some of the best thrash rhythms I've heard from you yet. HELL YES!! Please continue to show us this new side we haven't heard. All about that old school thrash.
Looks like my first guitar, which is a red flame top LP special (so no pickguard) with gold hardware. My sister picked up my unlocked case off my bed once and it fell on the floor and the electronics have been fucked ever since. Luckily I only ever use the bridge pickup though as it’s just the neck pickup that doesn’t work right
Totally agree on 498T pups. My first Les Paul is a Studio Lite, so 500T but nonetheless. 1992. Bought there and then. It survived all modding somehow, besides StrapLoks. And I had the frets rounded off. The school bus type Gibson frets just always felt like speed bumps. Also agree on 525K pots. Dropped those into 3 LPs. Leaving the Studio, an R9, and a ‘73 Custom with original wiring.
Ive got the 95 version of this guitfiddle. Thats 1995, not 1895. I received mine as a x mas gift from my parents, all spanky new and relatively unmolested by others. I still jam that wine red beasts all the time. My folks took almost two years to decide on buying that guitar or not. $850 in 1995 was $850. Along with windows 95, again 1995 not 1895, and 98, me, some other primitive computational apparatus with a paperclip mascot and Bill Clinton as President well, it was a good ol days time. Where am I going with this? I dont know, my bipolar shit is tweaking me out 😳😂 Love this channel! Or highly like if the word love offends you.
I own a damn Gibson Les Paul Studio! Bought my first one in 1991 and had to sell it in 1994 for financial reasons. I now, and have for 3 years, owned a Studio! It is my favorite guitar of all time. My wife got this one for me so I will never sell it!!!Both are/were black with gold hardware. Wonderful guitars at $1300 cheaper than a Standard. Good day!!!
Kyle, when I see that finish I think of you. When I first followed you a similar guitar was the standard guitar in the vids. Don’t think it was this one I don’t recall the gold PU’s and bridge.
Got an 85 white on white from Truetone in CA, ebony, dots, Duncan's $1k 15 years ago. The 80 V is gone, 03Exp gone. Authentic beat down on the finish. My number one, the best
I recently purchased a 2013 LPJ and the 490R/498T pickups blow away the Burstbucker Pro's in a 2016 Les Paul Studio Faded T I have. I don't know if I want to put new pickups or new electronics in the Studio Faded or just get rid of it and get another LPJ. With the LPJ I feel less worried about the maple neck getting cracked or broken. I'm not too worried about the Studio Faded but it is in the back of my head.
KB, got to love the well worn beater.. better than a wall hanger and those most likely dont play worth a flip.. when i am looking for used guitar I tend toward well played instrument at bargains as cosmetics dont mean anything and frets can be changed.. but a guitar that is extremely playable is the best.. I have a 1976 SG that had a past as a disco machine as it had silver sparkle paint in the pup cavities.. refinished in walnut and headstock break.. best guitar i own for playability.. Love to know more about each guitar from a playing perspective.. (neck carve, playability, action.. quirks).. love those details.. I love Gibson scale length but hate tuning issues with the nuts.. people think tuners help, but it is the nut mostly and a polish and lube of the slots really helps.. thanks man!! (I think all that checking is just your cold winters.. when guitars go to a venue.. they get exposed to too much temp fluctuation too fast.. happens.. looks cool.. )
I have an identical looking LP Studio from 2001 that is due for some fretwork as well. I didn't bond with it for a long time because the neck was soooo sticky. I finally took some micromesh to it and stripped it way too far back, but it does feel and play infinitely better now. Even when I wasn't in love with the guitar because the neck felt gross, it still sounded bigger and beefier than every other guitar I tried :)
Subbed. Not a hardcore fan, or east coast, I'll never afford the amps you showcase, but I love seeing sentimental value in guitars. I'll be here to see the others! p.s. - your Blue Voodoo vid pushed me over the edge to finally try boosting mine with an overdrive pedal, thanks!
I almost purchased a les paul voodoo a couple weeks ago for $1000 but the stain on it was so gummy it was almost unplayable and I didn't feel like having to get into that kind of repair. So I purchased an amp with no tubes instead. Now I'm having trouble getting any tubes lol

I just dropped it off at my local luthier for a new set up because of some bad fret buzz and a bow in the neck when you first repaired it did you have similar issues. The previous owner could just not have had it set up right or when they did just not have adjusted the truss rod. I've been lusting for an LP studio with that finish for years. And you are right, I probably could have bought one used for around 6 to $700 before covid. I do have 2 Gibson SGs with the 490/ 498's . I love those Pickups! Question ,there is an LP tribute 2021 that is cherry in my area that I could pick up for about $800. Are they any good?

Like I said in the video, their pots have very low tolerance for spec, so more than likely your volume pots measure between 250-300k. If you feel the guitar is too dark or muffled, swap the volume pots out for CTS 500k or 525k pots, and that should help.

Wax potting that pickup will change the way it sounds. I'm not saying it's better, or worse, but.... if you're that used to the way it sounds, and reacts to pick attack, it IS going to change. Unfortunately. But I seriously hope it's for the better, and you're still happy with it.
No doubt, it'll definitely take a little of the top end off. This guitar is already very bright, so I can sacrifice some of the top end and a little clarity to make the guitar atually usable in a band setting again
im very surprised by the ESP edwards and grassroots les paul copys, as i dont have an actual gibson les paul in my guitar collection, and the 498T is next on my list to get Thanks for an awesome review
Nice guitar but with the type of music you play it doesn't matter what you use. to me it wouldn't sound any different if you used a first act guitar from walmart.
I had a 2011 Gibson Les Paul Studio Tribute Goldtop. It was pretty good but not great. I look at that range the same as an Epiphone guitar. Most are absolute garbage but once in a while you can find a keeper.
Not even close to an epiphone … you got a lemon of a Les Paul or your full of sh.. I’ve played both , many of each , Les Paul’s are in a different league bra…
My favorite pickup combination in a humbucker guitar is 490R/498T . Sounds great! And there is something about Les Paul Studios!
I have a ‘99 Studio that I’ve had for 20+ years and I feel exactly the same way about it. Great guitars.
I only have an epiphone studio, a black one, but its honestly one of my favourite guitars and I love it as much as my more expensive guitars.
My studio is an 02 as well. Alpine White with the gold hardware. It’s my BABY ❤️🔥🎸
498ts and 525k pots is where its at. I like the mid range in the 498t. Low mid bump makes it growl.

I don't see anything at all wrong with LP Studio, it just doesn't have binding. Unless Gibson puts on some kind of special "tone" binding.
I sold a 1993 version of this guitar. Cliche statement "They don't make them like that anymore"!
So are you saying that this studio defeats the standard?
now i really want one
Awesome thanks
Another great video.
This video makes me regret selling the LP studio faded tabacco burst I had it was so bright and resonant.
U DUMB
It is a force of nature that guitar
Great playing too man 👊
My kind of riffage nice and heavy
Wax potting that pickup will change the way it sounds. I'm not saying it's better, or worse, but.... if you're that used to the way it sounds, and reacts to pick attack, it IS going to change. Unfortunately. But I seriously hope it's for the better, and you're still happy with it.
No doubt, it'll definitely take a little of the top end off. This guitar is already very bright, so I can sacrifice some of the top end and a little clarity to make the guitar atually usable in a band setting again
No wonder your Les Paul sounded nice. The headstock had been broken twice
Own 3 LP studios :)
🤩
Nothin like some face melting, tooth rattling thrash! Keep it up!
im very surprised by the ESP edwards and grassroots les paul copys, as i dont have an actual gibson les paul in my guitar collection, and the 498T is next on my list to get Thanks for an awesome review
For sure! I agree, the Edwards are EXCELLENT LP copies
I have a 01 just like that one. I'd sell it if your interested.
Nice guitar but with the type of music you play it doesn't matter what you use. to me it wouldn't sound any different if you used a first act guitar from walmart.
LP studio задевает струны моей души
Bro thats not how neck pickup sounds ...
because it's not on the neck pickup. Listen with your ears, not your eyes my friend
@@belligerentamateur I know that u have recorded with bridge. I am saying that it feels awkward to watch it when the switch at the top :)
No need for a fake relic job on this one.
That looks awful with the gold hardware on the body but chrome hardware on the neck. Terrible.
les...not lez
It's actually leszszzsz
I had a 2011 Gibson Les Paul Studio Tribute Goldtop. It was pretty good but not great. I look at that range the same as an Epiphone guitar. Most are absolute garbage but once in a while you can find a keeper.
Can't say I agree with that at all, would take a faded or regular LP studio over any Epiphone, any day. Appreciate your take, though!
Not even close to an epiphone … you got a lemon of a Les Paul or your full of sh.. I’ve played both , many of each , Les Paul’s are in a different league bra…
