I just came across this video…glad to see 1293 back up and running. I remember when she had to go into the shop after her firebox was overheated in 04 or 05? Here at the salt yard in Columbus where they tore her down and pulled her back to the shops.
Buynot that would be nice! However, Gennesee and Wyoming are not open to let age of steam run excursions on their rails right now. They do on occasion let them run down to sugar creek to put one of their engines on display but that’s the extent of what they can do. I have heard though that G&W have had a change in management so maybe they will be a little more open to steam on their railroad but only time will tell.
@00:56 I love that train whistle on this magnificent Canadian Pacific G5 (4-6-2) #1293 which is e only Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 iron-horse in service today!
6325 was side lined with some ishues back during the Ohio central days, both it and 1293 need 15 year rebuilds. Once the 19 is out of the shop (it will be a few years) 1293 will get a rebuild. Unless excursions are planned I doubt 6325 will ever run again. Becieds 1551, 13, and 4 are in line next.
drby0788 as far as I know. It is just special occasions. The railroad has granted him limited track rights. He gets 4 opportunities a year to operate his equipment on the mainline. This was part of the agreement when he sold all of his rights to the Ohio Central.
Evan Franzen it was recorded in September of 2014, I have no idea what plans the age of steam roundhouse has to operate. I think your best bet is to contact them directly
Its a shame she's no longer operational was 2012 her last year operational and did she stop running due to problems, needs a rebuild, retired i want to know its one of my favorite steam locomotives and Wikipedia doesn't any of this i speak of
Evan's Megazord Reviews jerry Jacobson didn’t say when we were there. My guess would be she was due for the 1472 day inspection. Total rebuild will be needed
Both were dual service; by the time the G5 class was introduced in WW2 the 4-6-2 had long since been outclassed in mainline passenger service by engines like the Hudson and Selkirk, plus diesels(obviously)... Considering 1293 happened to be one of the last of the last Pacific's its probable she actually ended up spending more time in freight duty than anything else as CPR was already dieselizing it's system as early as 1949 - less than a year after she was built. I've seen plenty of video and photos of both G3s and G5s in freight service, particularly near the end of steam.
Would have looked even more appropriate hauling passengers coaches. I say that because that what's she use to do the most of. Nice to see it, just the same!
Wonder why they relettered 1203's tender to central ohio? She's no longer used on the OC since Jerry Jacobson sold the railroad to new owners in 2008. (and rest in peace jerry)
Whistles were made by McAvity foundry in St, John's New Brunswick. CPR hade two types, the Atlantic used in most of Canada, and the mountain used Alberta and British Columbia.
@@silverstatehighiron aculey yes, all CPR G5 Pacifics are equipped with an air articulated whistle, it may sound like a steam whistle but it's powered by air

I love the #1293 all around. A great whistle and a beautiful engine.
Why does 1293's whistle sound like that Generic Whistle that's everywhere.
@@jackboy317 It doesn't.
Uh huh plus she's my favorite steam locomotive
LOL! The construction workers on the side of the tracks at 6:40 ! They decided to take a break and watch the steam train! 🤣
1293 would've looked better if she had her CP Tuscan Red. Hopefully AOSR will run some more trips now that MH&NF 12, and LS&I 33 are operating.

@@mylesspear part of the deal when the oc was sold was that they could still run on the ex oc tracks
Shes a beautiful machine, Jerry Chose very wisely when he restored 1293 and 6325 to operation

What about 136 at the South Simcoe Railway?
@@thestarlightalchemist7333 you got a point.
Would love 1293 to meet up with 90 for a doubleheader trip to Port Jervis, New York.
Wish steam will return to the mainline even more!
I miss steam engine shows growing up in Ohio!
@00:56 I love that whistle
Who else misses the 6325 double heading with the 1293

Canadian Pacific G5d Pacific 1293.
Awesome steam engine!
trying to get info on whether Jerry Jacobson runs steam regularly up there, or just on special occasions.

He was in his best. RIP Jerry Jacobson 1943-2017
Rip jerry
When was this recorded and when will 1293 steam again? I want to see my favorite steam locomotive under steam again

Ahe of steam take note do this with 19 when its done also fire up 1293
would 1293 be steamed.
CP G5 class Pacific's were commuter engines. The G3s were freight. So they got the wrong load behind her.
Matt`s Mocs still she looks beutifull with those loads behind her
G5 pacifics were light post WWII engines designed for dual service on branchlines and secondary mains to replace old worn out pre wwi power.
Both were dual service; by the time the G5 class was introduced in WW2 the 4-6-2 had long since been outclassed in mainline passenger service by engines like the Hudson and Selkirk, plus diesels(obviously)... They have the matching passenger cars

Central Ohio is what the age of steam labels their engines as, they also lable some as AOSX or just Age Of Steam
The return of steam on the Sugarcreek Line!
Would be awesome to see more steam excursions on the mainline too even more!
Anyone know what kind of whistle 1293 has???

well they did the lettering wrong it's in the wrong order it says Central Ohio of Ohio Central
After Jerry Jacobson sold the Ohio Central the name went with it. Now all the locomotives will wear Central Ohio or their original railroad names.
I did not know that Jerry Jacobson sold the railroad thanks for telling me
+TexasRailfan21 yes it's been nearly 10 years now. Take a look at the Age of Steam Roundhouse website.
