- I really enjoy the fact that so many people have enjoyed this video and have discovered such a beautiful song in the process. Just discovered this song today. Immediately my mind went to a girl I met, she was 23, me 27. I was smitten with her from day one. But like the song says, "the stars never aligned". She "slipped into the darkness". She was a cute little thing, and there has never been a female in my life I wanted so bad for so long. Even though I never once possessed her, I never forgot, but unlike the song lyric, I never gave up thinking about her. Now that little cute 23 year old is nearly 60, and at this moment I can still see her, standing beside me in all her 1983 glory. So don't wait for the stars to align like I did. For once in my life, I was happy, just knowing I would get to see her for a fleeting moment, I always looked forward to that time when she would be there. ..... Who knows, maybe our paths will cross again someday. I blew it big time, and pay for it everyday. I still think "what if"...

I was in the midst of a break up from a two year relationship, and then I heard that a new Dream Theater album came out. I was happy, and then I got to this track. That's when I realized that this album, along with Images and Words, would play a big role in how I approached life. A month later, we got back together. We have been happy for a year now, and it's been a whole different experience with her. Maybe not the point of the song, but it helped me get over the break up and back with her.

I saw Dream Theater live in Oslo, January this year. John Petrucci and James LaBrie, did the acoustic version perfectly.....tears flowed from my eyes, as the words of this song, reminded me of my painful childhood. An older gent stood next to me. He was about 6ft 5 and tears slid down his cheeks too...he winked at me and touched my hand. When the song finished he disappeared into the crowd :) Who ever you were...I thank you for the moment....this video, is so beautifully done and thank you :) xx
it took me 4 years to forget her..but still when i hear this type of songs i got stuck in my painfull past tears all around :(

I used to be in love about my best friend, she wants another who hurt her too many times, she is "popular" but don't have real friends. chrisini petrucci Don't worry. The break-up was incredibly amicable, and we're still great friends. That said, there isn't a day that goes by when I miss what we had together. I found that Spacehog and Radiohead also help

Thus is the nature of things, we all use this thing called repression when things get too tough and most of us are invariably victims to it at some time in life. So this sad song is about communication problems and the toughness of life in it´s most bitter reality. Luckily it´s not all so bad!
