How to fix windows sign in where you can't log on because of the "Search for app in the store?" issue.
Problem: Windows pops up a message "You need to install an app for this task. Would you like to search for one in the Store?" and possibly a message "Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Click to setup your PIN again.".
Summary: Your computer is probably stuck in Safe Mode but you can't see the desktop to know and can't sign in to turn off safe mode.
This video shows you two methods to fix the issue.
(Might also be referred to "windows 10 stuck in safe mode".) - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Life saver. Second method works from holding Shift -> Press restart -> Advanced boot options -> Command prompt. Just change the selected directory to C: from there -You don’t need the install media. Also works on windows 11
I did wonder that! Good to know, thanks.
how do i change selected directory??
@@uSynth type in c: or the required drive letter and then press enter. You can then use the command "dir" to see what is in the drive you've selected.

I was struggling to find a solution for this, all the other videos were not helping at all, glad that there are professionals as yourself giving real assistance.
There is so much awful generic advice for almost every computer problem, all high up on Google results. It's so disappointing. Mainly they all try to get you to install some junk software. Glad my video helped you. Which of the two methods worked for you?
@@freename the second one sorry for the late response
After 5 hours trying, your second method was the one that worked for me! I have read and watched so much on this, to much, thank you!
So glad to have helped :) Such an annoying problem; all it would take is the small "safe mode" watermark on the login page too so people understand what has changed to break login.
what’s the 2nd method
It's in the video!
Life Saver !Thank you watched every other videos neither worked but you are a professional tech enthusiast that is underrated ❤🎉
I'm pleased to have helped and thanks for taking the time to tell me :)
You, Sir, are a genius! Thank You so much. Second method worked with slight variation of booting from the built-in recovery options and needing to enter BitLocker codes - but I’ve had to do that so many times trying to fix this over the past couple of days, I’ve almost memorised them!
:)
How to enter bit locker code it says you must unlock this drive from control panel
Man, you deserve a lot more subscribers, this tutorial is a fricking masterpiece, which helped me, not like all others. Thank you soo much and keep doing this type of tutorials
My pleasure and I'm glad to have helped. Sadly my content is very "one off" help so few people have a reason to subscribe. Which of the two methods worked for you?
2nd method worked perfectly! Thanks very much for the in-depth and straightforward solution!
Yay
Hi everything worked until i tried to switch accounts and it won't let me sign in
This what worked for me:
1. On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key while you select Power > Restart
2. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > command prompt
3. Type the command: net user DefaultAccount active:no
4. Restart your pc and you will get a sign in pop up to your Microsoft account after you click sign in

So if you have no DVD or stick to keep it out of safe mode when you boot up then the only thing you can do is reinstall? I had to boot up in safe mode to even display admin but it keeps asking to download app yes or no and if you click either like shown nothing happens.

Thank you so much, very easy and professional ❤

You, sir, are sharing here really threatening ways of bypassing Windows security. But it helped me with my problem, so thank you very much.
The windows security "bug" has existed since Windows Vista. There was one version of Windows 10 which fixed it but then it got reverted, not sure why. Best to assume that anyone with physical access to a computer which doesn't have BitLocker on it can easily hack/bypass the account passwords and read whatever they want from the drive.
@@freename Well, at least they made it so the advanced boot options menu needs authorization now, so you'll only be able to perform this trick if you have a Windows installer USB with you.
@@freename still this is extremely unsafe.
I ran into a problem with cmd; it would not let me make changes nor change to drive C. I did the shift + reset which allowed me to put in recovery code for my microsoft account which then gave me access to my drive C - which has windows. After gaining this access, I was able to follow all the steps from part 2 leading to success! One extra step that was not in the video - hope this helps! Great video. Thanks!

Struggled to boot into usb somehow everything I tried I could get into bios or recovery. Finally decided to open up and remove drive that's booting windows restart change boot order from bios reinsert the internal drive. Probably tried 8 to 9 methods trying to get into bios or recovery. After 4 hours my issue is sorted, it didn't seem to be safe boot but selective boot that was selected thankfully got it to normal boot. Thanks for the video really helped.

When I type "net localgroup administrators tempadmin /add" system error 1376
then I get into windows, but every time I try to open "run" it keeps invisible, if I press alt+tab it appears for a moment but I cant run any command
The second method got my Surface 7 back on the road. Cheers!
Its worth noting that some PCs (such as my surface) allow a 'Boot to command prompt' option on the third hard reset. That means you don't need to worry about the install USB.
Glad to have helped. The problem with the built in command prompt is it often asks for a password which people do not know (and usually isn't the same as the online Microsoft Account password)
@@freename Yes, I had to go onto the MS website and get my Surface passcode. As to the inital cause of the problem, I had just changed some startup opions on MSConfig. Makes you wonder why this is the trigger and why Microsoft haven't fixed it...
@@shadowside8433 Yes, it is insane they've left it so easy to lock yourself out of your computer using msconfig. In the days before online Microsoft accounts where Windows was also linked to the same account there was never a problem.
Then they invented the online logon which needs a browser to complete the logon.. and seem to have forgotten that msconfig can disable that function and break windows entirely!
I would love to know what Microsoft's official response would be if you contacted them with the problem.
Do you need a usb with windows? On it or can you just restart in the menu ? And how do you down load Windows 11 to a USB?
Search for windows 11 iso and use the Microsoft.com result to download the media creation tool. Run the tool and it downloads and converts a usb stick.

@@freename thank you for making a legit working tutorial. Am curious do you have any tutorials or can you recommend some for diagnosing windows 10 memory leak(s).?
@@diveallz1044 How does the problem present itself? I'd normally just use task manager, go to the detailed tab and order by memory use. That will show you the program running away with memory. For more in depth stuff use Process Explorer or maybe Process Monitor to try and identify what specific function is going wrong within that program.
@@freename I've used most of all the Sysinternals programs to try and diagnose it myself but, I just reinstalled win10 day before yesterday and for the 1st time all I'll do is log into windows and my RAM usage sits at 10% which it's never done before and I've done a bunch of regedit tweaks and disabled everything service wise that I can. Even tried to uninstall last few updates and it didn't help any.
Base/lowest ram use of windows will always be around or above 2gigabytes (if you've got the ram available). Then more programs you open the more it will use. Trying to reduce that is unlikely to be successful.
Tried the first and second method multiple times to assure spelling and characters were correct. I do not have a utilman.exe, after searching system32 dir, I only see a utilman.dll. Any advise? Thanks
very strange, maybe just put cmd in the right place where utilman should be and see if that works?
first method says while i enter it, it says "an error occurred while attempting to delete the specified data element. element not found" and the second method not work for me ,:
My computer had preinstalled windows. Is it possible to do this without a flash drive or a cd? Also, the advanced boot options do not work at all. Hi. I'm trying the second method, but once I replace utilman, cmd doesn't open, and in the next boot, it opens Utilman as normal. What else could I try?
I think there is one build of Windows 10 where the utilman trick doesn't work. It might be that you are unlucky enough to be on that version.

At 4:58 where you renamed Utilman.exe to Utilman.exe.bak so you have a backup of the original Utilman.exe
del Utilman.exe
move Utilman.exe.bak Utilman.exe

sfc /scannow may also restore the original version of the file.

There is one build of windows 10 where that trick doesn't work. Or you've not correctly replaced utilman with CMD.
Umm so the point in the 2nd method where I have to use the accessibility option the CMD doesn't open
There is one specific build of Windows 10 where that trick is blocked. Not sure what I can suggest :( there is a USB stick which can create a new admin user for you: www.chntpw.com/guide/ but it really isn't very easy to use. There may be some TH-cam videos.

To reverse the change made go back into command prompt and rename the files back to what they were.
