    y'all, analog video glitches are a big rabbit hole, and its very underground. it takes a certain kind of personality to be willing to experiment with this kind of discontinued equipment from ebay and try things by yourself. this world isn't like premiere pro where you can look up a tutorial for how to pull off a certain effect, but i admire you making trying to make this kind of video. it's a start.

      Totally. I’ve got a stack of VCRs and CRTs sitting around, some weird A/D converters, and I know I am barely even scratching the surface.

    Your CRT has digital noise reduction on, that is why it is dropping out to blue. Dig in the menu to turn that @#$ off.. no more blue screen. Use a universal remote if it does not have a menu button. You are probably only getting a 1/3 of what that device can do.

      Is it bad to use your laptop as your original video source over burning the video to dvd and then using a dvd player? Is there any downsides to different capturing methods other than recording the screen of a crt tv with a camcorder? Can you use your laptop as the original source then use a digital to analog converter then use the same laptop to capture the altered video after it runs through a video synthesizer? Will my laptop crash during this process? so many questions

    If I want to take my 4k footage and transfer it to VHS then transfer it back to digital what do I need to buy? How do you plug that distorter in? Sorry a lot of questions!!!

    • @drewbdarby
      @drewbdarby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want to transfer to a VHS tape, you'd use the HDMI to RCA converter to plug into a VCR, and then record whatever you want onto the tape. Then you can either use a little all-in-one recorder to record the output from the VCR, or you can use a capture card with your PC, or you can film the screen like the method I show here.

      @drewbdarby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So - it's not "bad" to use a laptop vs a DVD, different processes will yield different results. If you capture using a different method than recording the screen, you won't see the texture of the CRT screen, which may be better for what you're doing. I haven't tried using one computer to simultaneously capture and output video - sounds like a great experiment, but if your machine is underpowered it may slow to a crawl.

    • @MDJ5
      @MDJ5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i like to use an easycap rca to usb device for capturing. they are super cheap, like 15-20$, but are really sensitive to circuit bend video equipment so i picked up a cheap TBC (time based corrector) in the signal chain just before the capture device which isnt its intended purpose but still keeps the device from glitching out in ways i dont want it to.
