To this day Mark’s rap at 5:39 is one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. Someone made a video on TH-cam of that verse on a continuous loop and I admit I have listened to it more than once. lol
This is their debut song. All of their songs are known to go hard! They're called the Avengers of Kpop.
Capital records wanted a super group for the western states so they approached sm entertainment with the idea. Sm entertainment pulled taemin first to be apart of this group. Then history was made. Super m went on tour across the world and I was lucky enough to go to there concert in San Diego CA 2019. The sold out crowd went ape shit bananas and I was the biggest banana there. My mouth was screaming but I couldn't even hear myself. Best show ever! I don't care when, I don't care where, I don't care how much it cost I will be attending there next concert when they return to the states. At the time of them being out in California they gave a concert in front of the tower at capital records, I tried for hours to get close to watch but there were to many people. All of california was in an uproar the buildings had huge banners all over of super m and Hollywood was over ran with fans. I didn't get to even get close enough to see a glimpse so I got tickets to there San Diego concert yey me. Please check out more super m they were even on the tonight show and Ellen. I got into Kpop, as many others, with Boy with Luv from BTS in 2019. And i was a BTS only Fan for a while, watched only their stuff and briefly listened to other groups but not really.
I knew about EXO, never heard anything from NCT before and only two songs from SHINee without knowing anything about the group. But this song opened up the world of kpop for me. It made me a proud multi, a huge SM group, producer, songwriter stan, Baekhyun became my Ult, EXO and NCT my Ult groups (SHINee came later with their comeback 2021 but they are my third Ult group and Jinki my second Ult bias)...

SuperM was created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records in the U.S. This group features 7 of the best of the best when it comes to dance, vocals, rap and performance in Kpop. The members of SuperM are some of the absolute best from SM Entertainment's most popular groups. Baekhyun who is one of the best vocalist in the industry and Kai who is one of the top 2 dancers in the industry are from EXO; Taemin is the other top dancer in the industry with one of the most well respected solo careers and he is a member of the legendary group SHINee; Taeyong is the leader of NCT and he is known for his dancing and rapping and Mark is the main rapper from NCT-127/NCT-U; and Ten is the main dancer and lead vocalist and Lucas is a rapper and visual of NCT-U/WayV.
SuperM debuted in the U.S. in October 2019, so that is why all of their main track songs and MVs are mostly in English, because "Jopping" was meant to by their foyer into the U.S. music market.
SuperM are considered the Avengers of Kpop because the group is so multi-talented, with some of the most influential idols in the industry, representing multiple nationalities and Kpop generations, who are poised to take over the world.
Mark is Korean-Canadian, so his native language is English. And WayV is the Chinese sub-unit of NCT, so not only does Ten and Lucas speak Korean and English, but they also speak Mandarin. Ten also speaks Thai because he is from Thailand and Lucas speaks Cantonese because he is from Hong Kong and a little Thai because his mom is Thai. And although, Baekhyun, Kai, Taemin and Taeyong are all native Korean, they also speak many other languages. For example, Taemin and SHINee are very popular in Japan, so he is fluent in Japanese as well.
Baekhyun has been chosen as the leader of SuperM. (Baekhyun is also the oldest member at 29 and Mark is the youngest at 22) However, Taemin is the one with the most seniority in the group. Taemin is only 28 years old, but he debuted 4-10 years before any of the other members of SuperM. Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008 when he was 14 years old, so he is a super senior member of the group. In other words, as part of the hierarchy of respect, Taemin is the one everyone looks up to. Which, might be why Taemin was chosen to play such a major role within the group's storyline, and why we have seen him prominently featured in almost everything to do with SuperM.
It is said that the concept for SuperM is supposed to be like the Avengers, so, I see it as each of the members are a different kind of superhero that make up the larger "Avengers" group, just like how the Marvel Avenger members come together from all walks of life with all different abilities and powers, etc. to make up one big supergroup.
I think the concept of the group all stems from EXO's concept and storyline. As you know, the members of EXO are all supposed to be aliens from Planet Exo, and each of the members has a superpower that is specific to them. From day one, EXO's story has been that they were sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are thought to be caused by the Red Force. As a member of EXO, Baekhyun has the power to control light and Kai has the power of teleportation, so those powers are nothing new for them. However, the concept of superpowers is new for all the other SuperM member (You will see the other member's special powers and abilities if you check out all of their teaser videos which were originally released leading up to the release of "Jopping.") So I think because Kai and Baekhyun are part of the group, SuperM's storyline is tied to EXOs storyline. I think SuperM are supposed to be coming together to fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from corrupting and taking over the world, etc.
And just like the Marvel Avengers members each have their own Superhero story, when they come together to form The Avengers they combine their story and concept and weave elements of each of the member's backstories into The Avengers storyline. I see SM Entertaiment doing the same thing with SuperM.
Also, just like how the Marvel Avengers come together to combine their strengths and powers to help fight Thanos, I see parallels with what SM is doing with SuperM's storyline. SuperM is taking the "best" members from each group and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight.
Some fans who are into SM group theories have also speculated that NCT's dream concept and storyline also connects to EXO's storyline, just like how many believe that Red Velvet is connected to EXO's storyline -- it is believed that SM's girl group Red Velvet, EXO's sister group, may be the Red Force. I think that SM may even have set it up so that at least all of their third generation groups -- and now even fourth gen. groups, with the introduction of aespa -- have storylines that connect, link together and intertwine.
And although NCT and SHINee don't have a backstory that has anything to do with being Superheroes in the same way as EXO does, I find it interesting that, for example, NCT and WayV have songs called "Superhuman" and "Take Off" which both have sort of superhero type themes in their MVs, and one of Ten's solo songs was called "New Heroes". With what I know about SM, it wouldn't surprise me if this is something they have had in the works for a really long time and they probably have been creating ways to foreshadow things to come in SuperM that create connections between the members and their original groups. One thing SM has mastered since the creation of EXO, is how to tell a story and how to create a mystery that connects even the most minute of details together to build an epic adventure for fans.
SuperM's storyline is already connected to EXO's storyline, and I think SM may be working on expanding the story to its other groups, in the same way that "The Avengers" connects all the individual superheroes' stories when they come together to form The Avengers.
If the SuperM Avengers are coming together to help EXO stop the Red Force, I think the members who are part of SuperM are the liaisons who are helping to connect all the groups -- EXO, Taemin/SHINee, NCT and WayV -- together. For example, right after SuperM released "Jopping," WayV came out with their MV for "Moonwalk" and I think the story in their "Moonwalk" MV is a continuation of "Jopping's" storyline, and now I think WayV's "Turn Back Time" MV is also part of that story.
To help explain, I think EXO, as members of SuperM, are working with the other "Avengers" members to try and stop X-EXO. (X-EXO are EXO's alter ego clones) If you pay attention to what Kai and Baekhyun are wearing in "Jopping," their outfits are very similar to the all black outfits they are wearing in EXO's "Obsession " MV -- Kai even wears the same parachute backpack in both MVs -- which seems to indicate then that the version of Kai and Baekhyun in SuperM are the EXO members who are the good guys. Because in "Obsession" the members in all black are supposed to be EXO and the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup are the X-EXO members who have been created by the Red Force.
So on that note, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third and fourth generation groups' MVs and storylines are being designed to connect stories and plots. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connection between the groups. And that includes EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second gen, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen.
And now I see connections being made with SHINee's most recent "Don't Call Me" and "Atlantis" MVs, as well as aespa's MVs and NCT-127's "Save" MV, and even SM's older groups, such as Super Junior's "House Party" MV., etc. It is becoming clear that SM is designing the SM Universe to include all of its groups and it is tying all of their storylines together.
If you have seen SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV you might remember that we see the SHINee members at one point go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in all black outfits. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's "Jopping" MV when the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping" as they are teleported or travel through the wormhole. So, it looks like maybe SHINee are preparing to eventually join in the fight as well.
And you will see instances in WayV's MVs, such as "Moonwalk," where it looks as though Ten and Lucas are there to gather the members to bring them into the battle, and in "Turn Back Time" it looks like the WayV members are all beat up like they have been in a fight, which means they could have been in a battle with the Red Force, etc.
It's all part of SM's SM Culture Universe storyline.
To get to know SuperM and the members better, and to understand the story and concept behind "Jopping," if you haven't already, you should watch the behind the scenes/making of video called "SuperM: The Story of Jopping." It's an official video on SuperM's TH-cam channel. It's one of the best behind the scenes Kpop shooting videos I have watched and it really helps to explain the concept and story behind the song and the group. It's well worth the 30-plus minute video. Please check it out, even if you don't react to it. :D
If you follow EXO's concept and storyline even a little, you know that SM doesn't do anything halfway. When they come up with a concept for a group they go all in and even the most minute of details are used to tell that story. That is why SM Entertainment is one of the top 3 entertainment companies in Korea, as well as one of the most influential entertainment companies around the world, and it's why it commands the top spot. SuperM is specifically designed to try to help SM grab even more of the U.S. market. That is why their debut and all of their promotions were focused in the U.S. If you notice, SuperM starts with S and ends with M -- SM.
The stadium/coliseum scenes were all filmed in Korea on a soundstage. But all the outdoor scenes were filmed in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. So the desert and that cityscape were in Dubai -- it was all filmed live on location. And all those vehicles you see in the MV are real vehicles. Kai rode in the helicopter and Ten and Lucas filmed on that tank, etc. The scenes where you saw them driving the vehicles were in Dubai. They were drove by stuntmen, but they were all real working vehicles.
Just wait until you see them perform live at their debut concert at Capitol Records in California, you will be even more blown away.

Jopping is definitely the title track / single for their 1st Mini Album -- and it's ALSO the last song of the concert for the tour they did in 2020 so you're correct on both fronts XD
SM tired doing this once before. Where they took members of different groups and made a super group. The first time they actually had Taemin and also Kai, but also Henry, and there was 3 others and one was one of their female artists...and right now I am having major problem remembering their names. The point is they had a debut song, it really didn't go the way SM wanted to go....so they waited a few more years...and tired one more time....and as you can see...this time it worked...and they actually debuted in America first...debuted the video at Capitol Records in L.A. than held a mini concert outside on the property of Capitol. A couple other songs from Super M...

Now because of the success of SuperM, SM decided to debut a female version just about 3 or 4 weeks ago...they are called GOT, which stands for Girls On Top. And them members actually span all 4 generations of k pop. Starting with BoA (1st gen), Hyoyeon and Taeyeon of Girls Generation (2nd gen), Seulgi and Wendy of Red Velvet (3rd gen) and finally Karina and Winter from Aespa (4th gen), with their song "Step Back."
One more thing....if u like collabs, one you might be interested in...a couple years back NCT127 along with EXO Chinese member Lay, and Jason Derulo did a song called "Let's Shut up and Dance."
