  • Hey everyone, today's video is on Louis C.K and the long set of trials and tribulations he endured early on in his comedy career that led to him becoming a legend. One of the most iconic things about Louis C.K is his ability to tread dark, strange, and personal topics in such a way where he provides honest reflection in a humorous manner. His TV Show Louie also encapsulates the good, the bad, and the ugly moments of the human experience perfectly. This unique voice and lens was absolutely revolutionary for the comedy world and it has led to the influence of some of the hottest rising names in comedy currently such as Shane Gillis, Mark Normand, Sam Morril, Andrew Schulz, and so many more. He also was influenced by some of the greatest comedians such as Norm Macdonald, Patrice O'Neal, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and many more. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. If you enjoy this comedy lore enough please like the video, subscribe to the channel, turn on post notifications, and share this with someone you think would enjoy it. Thanks for watching, I love you guys.

    Another banger, Nate! When I was 13, I watched every episode of The Dana Carvey Show. Decades later, when I realized Louis CK was the head writer, it all made sense.

    I could tell you really know what you're talking about when you got to the stuff about "sitting in the pocket", you're 1000% correct about that. It's one of the hardest things to learn, especially in high pressure moments where most new comics tend to speed up by default. This is a cool channel. Good job dude.

      Thanks a lot brother. I’ve been doing comedy several years, and I’m still a beginner learning to sit in the pocket myself. It takes time. I’m glad you loved the video though brother, I hope you subscribe to see more 🥲❤️

    When it comes to shooting and directing his own concert specials, Louis is also quite a remarkable filmmaker, a devoted student of the "less is more" simple approach to shooting a concert, similar to Scorsese's Last Waltz or Demme's Stop Making Sense. Chewed Up, Hilarious, and Live At The Beacon has some of the best examples of that back-to-basics idea. They're on par with the likes of "Richard Pryor: Live In Concert" and Margaret Cho's "I'm The One That I Want."

    The premise of your channel is a really outstanding one, in that it fills a void in so many ways. Not everyone is so into the whole comic scene that they (I) need a channel that offers a bunch of info and answers many questions. Was recently looking for stuff on the “Philly incident” and you gave us exactly the context and info I was interested in. Thanks! You’ll only grow with such a level of research, knowledge and presentation!

    That whole thing five years ago with the leaked set was pretty ridiculous. Was it Seth McFarland who got all pompous and self righteous toward him because he wasn’t being “pc” enough for all the beautiful people?

      @TheComedyHistorian  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nah it was Judd Apatow and Pete Holmes, I’m actually gonna a make a video and cover that because there’s a lot of crazy details

    • @victoryak86
      @victoryak86 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheComedyHistorian I completely meant JA, sorry bout that. Seth is completely different and hilarious and way better. I saw that interview w/ Jim Breuer there as well (podcast I guess). PH and JA were insufferably arrogant imo, almost vomit inducing. Fortunately Breuer (apologize if it wasn’t him🤔) was excellent in talking abt how “pc/wokeism” is death to comedy, regardless of whether a particular bit is or isn’t “acceptable” to the virtue police. And moreover it wasn’t meant to be made public.
      I actually haven’t even heard the Louis set except for a few clips, which were the ones that were so very offensive to those guys. I didn’t really find it all that shocking because he was speaking about the classmates who were out there taking advantage of the incident to push gun control. Regardless of one’s views on that, Louis certainly wasn’t making fun of kids who were victims but the ones using it for a cause and just their attitude. Anyway, the point is they immediately decided to trash Louis for being insensitive etc based on something not intended to be made public. Also its transparent when self righteous people are trashing someone to advance themselves by pretending to be better than they really are. It’s such a pussy move esp for comedians toward a fellow comedian.

    I'm sorry my guy that joke about shushing is not a good suggestion for an alternative 😂observation sure, but then he just ends it on a goofy punchline because he's being weird.
    The Carlin comparison is criminal imo, he's nothing like Carlin, even in his later years when he actually becomes really good, his actual "deep" social/life observations also still only really lend themselves to him then doing a dark or edgy punchline. Which is good don't get me wrong, just absolutely nothing like Carlin.
    Carlin was basically a politic activist by the end.
    Also he would have hated Louie for being a disgusting creep

    • @AlexSmith-dh1oz
      @AlexSmith-dh1oz 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I disagree wholeheartedly. Louis has some good material, but I never laugh consistently. I could watch a Mel Brooks movie at just about any time. Give me the choice between Sincerely and Blazing Saddles, and I'm choosing Blazing Saddles 100 times out of 100.

      @@rowzdwr not sure why that's shameless. I chose a Mel Brooks film I like (I could have just as easily said Spaceballs, young Frankenstein, or Robin Hood: men in tights), and I said Sincerely because it was the name of a special mentioned in the video (and I don't generally know the names of Louis CK's specials). Substitute your favourite special in for sincerely and one of Brooks' other movies for blazing saddles,, and from my point of view, the statement remains equally true.
