As I see no way to do such on any products on the gamegenic website to the effect of give me an indication of what shipping might be on a product similar to the Academic. An episode with Professor Spice8rack would be amazing. The Arena stream has solidified my decision to avoid it entirely. I know it was more the community hyping up the stream than wizards was, but it definitely feels like it made things worse and killed a lot of people's trust. With walking dead I wish they'd finally tell us when the mtg versions are coming since they finally confirmed they will actually do them. So many problems with that lair, and coming just months after they acknowledged the buy a box problem and swapping those back to alt art.

To answer Prof's last question, I think unquestionable to continue to push towards Alchemy. Vince is right, the most recent set championship was Historic and Alchemy specifically. And it was recently pointed out to me that the latest update to the intro decks you get for free as part of the "New Player Experience" include Alchemy cards. So the decks you get when you start the game as a new player aren't even Standard legal. They're clearly trying to funnel people into Alchemy to save face.
I am certain that alchemy will be a problem once they start revising cards though and people are confused as to why the effects of their cards suddenly changed.

Yeah. Prioritizing short term gains over stability and future infrastructure is a hallmark of capitalism. It's just the natural endpoint of the philosophy, when there's nothing more you can effective, you'll have to make compromises on quality to increase the gains. Chasing growth this much is dooming the game and the community around it.

Very insightful discussion and one we definitely need more. There are many ways to generate profit and build/further the IP of the game we all love so much. Some of these options may not be as easy as printing singles but they could do the IP a lot more good and bring in a new generation of players (e.g. creating high quality MTG-related multimedia content which old and new fans can enjoy).

Last time I tried getting into Arena it was mindless grinding with crappy standard decks to get daily gold to do drafts. After the entire season I had enough wildcards for half of a decent standard deck.
As to NFTs - the problem with them is that somebody decided to make them be collectible pictures, instead of using them to represent ownership of functional items in a digital economy, so now they have a bad reputation. MODOs are basically NFTs, but not on a block chain - or rather, MTGO could make NFTs to represent the MODOs and use a blockchain ledger for trades and to record games. They trade the trust of a corporation (i.e. WotC) for the trust of a blockchain ledger in verifying ownership of a digital object. The current implementation of NFTs, compared to what the technology could be used to do, is like vending machine collectable cards as compared to Magic cards. There's no intrinsic value, because there's no ecosystem in which they have a proper function - they're just stickers at this point. Edit: 47:33 is the real point for why NFTs aren't a good fit for Magic - the scale is off (as in, you'd need too many resources overall), and the fundamental problems with MTGO don't stem from a mistrust of WotC anyway. If they haven't had their system hacked to shuffle around MODOs yet, they probably aren't much of a target, and that security is the only real reason you'd want a blockchain ledger to secure your ownership rights. The weak point in the security chain is the individual account anyway, as opposed to the servers, so having such a ledger wouldn't actually keep YOU any safer, though it would make it easier to track down mule accounts and ban them.

You exchange Commodities for Money which you use to buy Commodities (C -> M -> C), while a capitalist exchanges Money for Commodities for more Money (M -> C -> M++)

To add to one point Vince was making here, you can't reach a stable point because of the competition too. Corporations are constantly in a state of grow or die. Corporations that try to just even out almost always end up getting priced out of the market by some competitor that is growing itself recklessly. It's a system of selection that favors unsustainable, exponential growth.

If your collection on arena was all NFTs, you would actually own them, could store them in a personal wallet, and would be able to trade and sell them on a marketplace independent of the Arena client. It would fix all the issues with arenas economy
The purpose of NFTs is to trick people into injecting liquidity into the corresponding crypto-currency, so that whales holding vast amounts of conceptual clown money can turn that into actual spendable dollarydoos, and leave them holding a worthless string of 1s and 0s. Stop promoting harmful scams.

I'm struggling to find a popular historic deck that plays more than 3 or 4 Alchemy cards, but there's no shortage of decks playing Unholy Heat / Ravenous Squirrel / Archmages Charm, or other MH2 cards which fit into the deck's particular strategy.
I legit would watch a Dies to Removal that's Vince and Spice8Rack, and when the eventual "You have a youtube channel?!?" gag comes up, Vince replies with, "Yes. We siezed the means of production from Brian, comrade!" and we all have a good laugh.
They made the Universes Beyond available so people are more incentivized to get set boosters. Don’t forget they raised prices with Kamigawa, so they can now “justify the increase” partially at least

On the topic of Secret Lairs, so long as their Universes Beyond prints are skins of EXISTING cards, it is functionally no different than an acrylic alter of the card. At that point, aside from being jaded about rampant corporatism (often confused with capitalism in this modern day and age, much to my continued chagrin), it stops being worth complaining about. Alternatively, they could do like with the My Little Pony drop and just make the cards silver-border.

No it's that they killed Historic as it existed. If they had Historic and Historic Alchemy people wouldn't care as much
@@ashadeofnight I'm pretty sure Historic, as it existed, was already dead after the mystical archives and MH2 cards were added. I'm struggling to find a popular historic deck that plays more than 3 or 4 Alchemy cards, but there's no shortage of decks playing Unholy Heat / Ravenous Squirrel / Archmages Charm, or other MH2 cards which fit into the deck's particular strategy.

They made the Universes Beyond available so people are more incentivized to get set boosters. Don’t forget they raised prices with Kamigawa, so they can now “justify the increase” partially at least

I... am no longer purchasing any MTG products, I'm going to purchase full decklists off the secondary market, as soon as I can swallow the deck price and delivery price
The only MTG product I am excited for is the WH40k decks coming.
On the topic of Secret Lairs, so long as their Universes Beyond prints are skins of EXISTING cards, it is functionally no different than an acrylic alter of the card. At that point, aside from being jaded about rampant corporatism (often confused with capitalism in this modern day and age, much to my continued chagrin), it stops being worth complaining about.
Alternatively, they could do like with the My Little Pony drop and just make the cards silver-border.
I AM SAYING WE CAN SEIZE THE MEANS OF MAGIC PRODUCTION, not by putting a Hedge Fund in charge, but putting the community in charge.
