Great video and showcasing the before and after. Contemplating one of these for the front of the Willys and this video is very convincing. Great stuff!
That’s pretty cool I’m surprised how well it’s doing on stock tires if i had the money I would buy a nice 2001 dodge Dakota and turn that into a nice little crawler i want the blue one with silver on the bottom and then some method race wheels in silver
@BertStreetsenior I'm way too stupid for this question but my understanding is the actuator is just to engage the 4x4 in general so I think it would be no different than selecting between 4x4 and 2x4
@japhethbonnema on my 89 Cherokee it had one on the front passenger side of the axle housing that when it was put into 4x4 it would slide a collar onto the passer side of the axle shaft (it was split off and separate) anyhow just checking because that would be awesome if it worked
Yeah there will be that ratcheting noise you hear earlier in the video, but many people say it quiets down to a point where you can't hear it anymore during regular driving, my jeep makes enough noises that I don't hear it anyway
I have the same locker in my 96 XJ and really like it. Daily driver and the only time I hear it is in tight turns. I put a thicker diff cover on with heavier gear oil and it is quieter. Dollar for dollar, its the best automatic locker. Don't underestimate a stock XJ with a good traction device.
A lot of reasons, none of which extremely profound... main reason was I wanted to lock my tires as cost effective as possible so I opted to spend on a locker in the front and simply weld the rear. Vehicles farily normally when locked in rear but full time locked in the front makes it near undrivable in anything off road
@@japhethbonnema okay. I have a sas 2011 ford ranger fx4 off road. I only use 4wd for crawling off road. But as far as 2wd? My concern is only when I'm on the pavement doing deep turns if the binding occurs will it throw off my radius?
Great question. I decided to weld the rear diff instead of putting in a locker as this jeep will never be road driven. I decided not to weld the front because it would make the jeep pretty useless in 2wd and would be a pain to turn
best videos showing open vs locked

You can take off the front (for off road) but I would leave the rear sway bar.
Interesting advice. I've heard a few people say this now in other videos I watched. Might give it a try.
Mine came without a rear sway bar but I have a front one
do a vid on how it steers with locker vs open
Love jeep XJ it's too good

Haha maybe someday I can justify buying wheels thats are more expensive than my rig
How's this for on the freeway?
It won't do anything when you're in RWD.
Looks like appleton mn.
Correct sir
You can drive it in the highway with no issues?
Impressive
This spartan locker is the same for front and rear ?
No there's a separate part number for each
Awesome!!!
So could you put a valve on the air actuator on the front diff and make it a selectable?

In 2wd, will this front locker have any impact at all(noise etc) or not on the road?

You won’t hear it at all if you have hubs that are able to be unlocked.
So why a front locker before a rear locker???

Hi, is this then full time locked?
No. Only when there is power to the wheels, unlocked when coasting or in 2wd
Subscribed,
Only if you wear your seatbelt though.
Haha ok, name checks out🤣
@@japhethbonnema Hahhah got me hahahahh hahahahhahhha holy crap that was good no joke lol. Awesome video man!
Does your front locker bind up & grind when your turning on roads?
@genoory5090 if your in 2wd no, in 4wd it will but it's not terrible

@genoory5090 your rig sounds sweet. But nah in 2wd your turning radius will be unaffected
