Hi Kevin. Ingenious! I really like the idea of using hot and cold to install the bearings - I must remember that one!
Looking forward to the next installment.
    Cheers

Thanks Andrew. I forgot to mention in the video that I also used Loctite on the bearings just in case the shrink fit wasn't tight enough.

    Hey Kevin.
Great idea building your own set up.
I have agree with you about the amount of times you might use a tool grinder.
Handy to have but justifying the cost of buying one ??
Good to see Part 1 of the step by step video series of the build.
    Looking forward to Part 2.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Peter.

      Hi Peter,
      Thanks for watching.

Correct me if you beg to differ but when you set the part up in the mill to drill and bore the 2 holes you could have pressed the bushes into the bores (previously made) and then bored them in the mill almost the same as line boring as the boring bar is rotating in a circle and that will be the same for both bores......the bonus is you can very easily measure both bore diams without having to go to the line bar removing and measuring experience etc.......I've (many years ago) been a horizontal borer for quite a few years and that aspect of line boring and setting a tool to a specific diam has always been a pain.
BTW, I don't think this set-up is quite a practical cutter grinder design......I have a CUTTERMASTER tool and cutter grinder and you could have adopted that design characteristics for this build quite easily......it's quite a common design and it's available for a similar design concept build if you browsed the 'net.
BTW again........don't EVER remove those bushes once fitted and bored as they will not be concentric due to having been bored to a different circle setting from the original turning.

Hey Kevin. That's an excellent setup! I need a sharpening solution for end mills and so on too. I have been planning (always planning..) to make a Harold Hall advanced toolrest, plus accessories to allow end mill sharpening too. But now, I'm not so sure!
Really looking forward to watching the rest of this episode, and the next three that I can see are out already.
    Cheers, Craig
PS: Somehow got unsubscribed, but have resubscribed. Also, are you from the UK originally?

      @Machine_NZ  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Craig, I also looked at the Harold Hall one but only need an endmill sharpener. I manually sharpen HSS tools for the lathe.
Yes originally from the UK been in NZ for 13 years. How about you?

    Hi Kevin
I found your channel via homemadetools.net and subbed for good content, ideas and tips, plus it's nice to find another UK machinist.
The cutter grinder you came up with is rather inspiring and barring the bespoke endmill holder itself, the modular approach you took using the lathe milling attachment and bench grinder makes it very accessible and handy if space is at a premium.
Looking forward to watching the next episode and see you at HMT.net :)
