Unfortunately the house was never built and the farm was sold piece by piece due to money problems at the time. it was a long time ago but the memory of the flavor still remains with me... Kumquats go really well with black tea, like an English breakfast. I can't stomach eating too many, but if you just cut the top off and squeeze one into your teacup, it's better than a lemon or lime. If any of you are black tea drinkers, you owe it to yourself to use a kumquat and some raw flower honey at some point.

I love Kumquats. The combination of sweet and sour is just so good. They're also super easy to grow, and they're one of most cold-hardy fresh eating citrus (they can handle somewhere around 10-15 degrees when mature). They also grow well in pots for those who can't grow them in the ground.

    • @jasonsutor6788

There were limequats at a store here in MO a few weeks ago. They tasted exactly like lemon to me, too sour by themselves so used them in tea and drinks.

I grow fukushu and meiwa and I've tasted Nagami. I absolutely love the fukushu. It's the perfect balance of sweet and sour and I don't get much bitter at all. It is on the larger side but I find it to be extremely flavorful, satisfying and refreshing as a single bite fruit. I have a big mouth;)

My dad has a kumquat tree and I like to munch on them when I visit but the ice storms that hit the South last month did in the last of the kumquats. I don't think it killed the tree but I'll have to wait till next year for them.

There is a fruit in the Philippines called "Calamansi", or "Calamondin" in English. You can eat the whole fruit like a kumquat, however the ripe and unripe fruit can be eaten. You can find them in asian or filipino markets.

"It's good, but, like, you don't want to take a bite out of a lemon wedge..."
Um. Yah. I've been eating fresh lemons since I was a kid. Tree-ripened ones are best, especially Meyers, but I will absolutely eat a lemon the same way most people eat tangerines. When I was a child, my mom thought I was just trying to shock the other kids, but nope. I still love them.
Also kumquats are my second-favorite citrus after pomelo, just ahead of blood oranges and grapefruit. I want to try those limequats now though.

Hey Jared, have you ever had a Sumo Mandarin? They just showed up at my local supermarket, they are absolutely enormous, incredibly easy to peel, and they taste like the best clementine you've ever eaten, with really big pulp that bursts with juice like caviar.

@@WeirdExplorer ah great thanks! My fruit looked much different from yours though, mine have a very pronounced "nipple" on top, have a super thick and easy to peel skin, and the segments are more distinct and easy to separate, like a clementine. I can upload some pics if you're at all interested!

  • @natalinegloriana3430
    @natalinegloriana3430 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Mine looks different to any of those. .
When I cut into it, there's no pulp whatsoever, it's dry and the look is nothing like a cut orange that's usually beautiful with the white intersect in the middle.
Mine tastes sweet tho, and has seed(s) inside it.
They sell it here in Indonesia as _Kimkit madu_ or Honey kumquat.
It is imported from China, I believe.
Just got back from your kumquat video in Malaysia.
I think mine exactly the same variety like yours there.

Have trees of all the above varieties, minus the Nagami, but with the addition of the Marumi---which is much like the Meiwa. I have really enjoyed this guys channel over the yrs and was a member of the Arizona Rare Fruit Growers Association for a few yrs. But he really disses these---not sure why. I love almost all of them & don't really get the bitterness--minus the Nagami, which is usually too tart. I can even pop my Eustis Limequat whole, as it is NOT quite as sour as a regular lime. They are sour but tolerable---and very tasty. They as also very healthy, with the combo of rind & pith...

Having had limequats, lemonquats and mandarinquats... I still prefer standard nagami kumquats for eating (the rinds are amazing). Limequats / lemonquats are very sour but good for cooking IMO. The hybrids that I had all had some sort of bitterness to the rind which I find much less appetizing.

Just a heads up, you got the Fukushu(Changshou) and Indio mandarinquat switched in your taste test.(The one you called Fukushu is Indio and vice versa)
It might be worth correcting in the description so people don't search and buy the wrong one.
    Thanks for the nice videos.
