Great speech, just building my own amateur machine since I don't have availability for one...

For ASTM D790, it states "Terminate the test when the maximum strain in the
outer surface of the test specimen has reached 0.05 mm/mm (in./in.) or at break if break occurs prior to reaching the maximum strain". Any idea how can I check for the max strain on the outer surface as stated?

Education is far more fun then a manufacturing line. But testing new technology and materials... that was hard to walk away from.
Many thanks to EWU for my amazing education in Mechanical Engineering. The skys the limit when your an Eagle.

The fiber was Carbon. The Epoxy was a thermoplastic pre-set resin, however the actual makeup of this sample batch proprietary per our sponsor. My apologies for such a short explanation.

What is the range of load to break the sample from to from

During these labs we tested 20 different specimens.
The consistent range was between 167lbf and 203lbf for this size of specimen.
It has been some years since I have attended EWU Engineering School. Dr. Weiser in the Engineering and Design Department would be able to give you more recent results.
      Hope that helps!
