For ASTM D790, it states "Terminate the test when the maximum strain in the outer surface of the test specimen has reached 0.05 mm/mm (in./in.) or at break if break occurs prior to reaching the maximum strain". Any idea how can I check for the max strain on the outer surface as stated?

During these labs we tested 20 different specimens. The consistent range was between 167lbf and 203lbf for this size of specimen. It has been some years since I have attended EWU Engineering School. Dr. Weiser in the Engineering and Design Department would be able to give you more recent results. Hope that helps!
The fiber was Carbon. The Epoxy was a thermoplastic pre-set resin, however the actual makeup of this sample batch proprietary per our sponsor. My apologies for such a short explanation.
